| Live Albums
I feel like live albums are becoming rare these days; few of my favorite modern artists bother to make them, for whatever reason. Despite that, the live album can showcase aspects of an artist's work that doesn't make it onto his or her studio albums. List is in no particular order, except for number 1. What are your favorite live albums? | 1 | | Bruce Springsteen Live in Dublin: With the Sessions Band
I'm not a big Springsteen fan, but this mix of folk, soul, country, gospel, spiritual, and even ska music (seriously) is just intoxicating every time I listen. This is one of the VERY few albums I know of, live or not, where I love every single track. | 2 | | D'Angelo Live at The Cirkus
I wish the version of Untitled (How Does it Feel?) went on longer, but this comp reflects what made Voodoo-era D'angelo so great. | 3 | | Jeff Buckley Live at Sin-é (Legacy Edition)
Skip the truncated 4-track version and go straight to the legacy edition. Jeff was a live artist, no two ways about it, and this album presents the clearest vision of his improvisational talents. Also, this album introduced me to the weird and wonderful world of Qawwali music. So that's good. | 4 | | The Band The Last Waltz (Complete)
I feel like I don't need to justify this album's inclusion. Anyone with even a passing familiarity with 60's rock knows this concert. The movie's amazing as well! | 5 | | Johnny Cash At San Quentin
At Folsom Prison gets all the love nowadays, but I admire this album for it's authenticity. Where Folsom was edited all over the place, San Quentin is a seamless 10 tracks. | 6 | | Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys
It's Hendrix. 'Nuff said. | 7 | | Donny Hathaway Live
The "What's Going On?" cover justifies this album's place in history all by itself. Every other track is icing on the cake. | 8 | | Depeche Mode 101
I wish it had been recorded a year later so as to include some Violator-era cuts, but even as it stands this is a stunning concert. | 9 | | LCD Soundsystem The Long Goodbye
Maybe it isn't such a goodbye any more, but that doesn't make The Long Goodbye any less grand (or long). | 10 | | The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East

01.06.17 | For me live albums are either really good/near the artists best material (Nirvana Unplugged, Opeth - Lamentations, Mayhem's new live version of De Mysteriis) or just lamer versions of the studio tracks/poorly recorded and/or with awkward dialogue and crowd sounds. Very hit and miss. | BreakerdeGodot
01.06.17 | I agree that they're hit and miss, and I do really like the Nirvana and the Opeth albums. Still, the good ones are even better due to being so uncommon. | CalculatingInfinity
01.06.17 | For me, unless there's a lot of unseen content (like, over half of the setlist) or they change original tracks to make them even better in my opinion live albums are completely pointless. Now live DVD/Blu Rays, that's a completely different story since I watch them all the time. My fav live album is by far Electric Masada's At the Mountains of Madness. | Dewinged
01.06.17 | Iron Maiden - Live After Death! | Illoomorpheme
01.06.17 | Coming from experience, 90% of the reason Live albums exist is to fulfill album # requirements from labels. Most bands that make them don't really care about the quality because they're trying to get out of their contracts to move elsewhere.
As say Calc said, live DVDs obviously are really good. Also the only reason I watch live videos is because I want to SEE the band playing + the crowd.

Hit the nail on the head. Plus different production compared to studio, more rawer setting vocally, plenty of fun to be had with setlist choice, can maybe see a band that's drastically changed style over the years play old classics in a new form, the editing/camera work can add to music artistically if they're good enough, the theatrics if they use any...gahhh it's so dope. | RadicalEd
01.06.17 | ZooTV - U2 live in Sydney (DVD)
Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour | BreakerdeGodot
01.06.17 | That's why I like that Springsteen album so much. Not only does he perform old classics that he's not known for playing, but he also completely reinterprets some of his old hits. | Maco097
01.06.17 | Dream Theater and most of Iron Maiden's live albums are totally ridiculous and unnecessary. | CalculatingInfinity
01.06.17 | Miserable fuck Maco on cue as usual. | Maco097
01.06.17 | Oh and Metallica after the 80's, those are lol too. | guitarded_chuck

01.06.17 | Tindersticks - Live at the Bloomsbury Theatre
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense | Pheromone
