Green Day's songs start to sound way too similar on their earlier releases.

onionbubs 02.09.17	no it's fine honestly this is probably the first time I've ever stood up for toms guitar work but honestly he's one of the best riffcrafters in th genre of which he rarely gets credit for. What adds to the catchiness of a lot of blinks work is his riffs on songs like dammit anthem part 2 feeling this and dumpweed. began to realize that because of how severely lacking California was of any decent guitar work. Delson has honestly just always felt kind of there, never doing anything bad but nothing interesting either. which is fine no one listens to linkin park for guitar work I just think he cannot be compared to delonge who at least makes the songs more interesting instead of just being there

maxer 02.09.17	Well, I didn't expect the thread to go in this direction. Technical ability doesn't really matter as long as the guitar playing is effective. When comparing Dookie and Enema it becomes very clear that songs like Having a Blast, Chump and Emenius Sleepus would've benefitted greatly from a catchy guitar riff or something. While Dookie has some of the better songs like Longview, Burnout and Basket Case there are a few uninteresting songs, while Enema doesn't have this problem. Even Don't Leave Me (which I find the weakest song) has a distinct enough opening and feel.
DinosaurJones 02.09.17	I prefer Blink. Not that Green Day is bad, but I pretty much grew up listening to Blink constantly, and Green Day only sporadically.
maxer 02.09.17	Green Day are definitely more ambitious than Blink, but that ambition doesn't always make for great songs. However, I don't get how you can find Green Day funnier. Maybe on other releases, but these records aren't funny at all while Blink's early carreer was pretty much based on funny and stupid lyrics.
