04.16.17 | Thelonious monk-piano solo | dreamgauze
04.16.17 | have some kitsch shit
the hopeless opus or the great battle of the unfriendly ridiculous by of montreal
occasional vocals but has long instrumental passages and very unorthodox for a campsy sing songy psych pop band to release
plus it's the only thing that comes to mind right now | Ocean of Noise
04.17.17 | As a classical pianist I'd say I have a moral obligation to give you a few recs. So here's a handful.
Bach - The Well-Tempered Clavier (books 1 and 2)
Beethoven - piano sonatas
Schubert - piano sonatas (particularly the last three, the G major one and the big A minor one)
Brahms - literally any solo piano works, especially op. 118 and 119 though
Chopin - literally anything again but especially the Preludes, the Études, the Nocturnes, the Ballades, the Barcarolle, the Waltzes
Debussy - anything, again, but especially the Preludes (books 1 and 2), Estampes, and Images
Ravel - anything but especially "Pavane pour une infante defunte", "Gaspard de la nuit", and "Miroirs"
Prokofiev - piano sonatas, especially 7, 8 and 9
Rachmaninov - preludes, études-tableaux
Messiaen - "Vingt regards sur l'enfant-Jésus"
Fauré - nocturnes, barcarolles, Thème et variations
Albeniz - Iberia
Grieg - lyric pieces, Holberg suite
Schumann - everything
Liszt - Mephisto Waltz, Ballade no. 2
Scriabin - piano sonatas, etudes, preludes
Haydn piano sonatas, Mozart piano sonatas, all great stuff
That should keep you going for a while... | bgillesp
04.17.17 | As someone interested in this list but knowing nothing about it, I might listen to some of these soon. Do you know of any modern (after 1950?) stuff like this at all Ocean? I know some of these classics you mentioned but a while back I got into some more modern sounding piano stuff and some recs in that area would be cool too. | Pch101
04.17.17 | Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert
One of the great jazz albums of all time, solo piano or otherwise, yet accessible enough to be popular. It belongs on one of those lists of "records that you need to listen to before you die."
As noted above, Chopin is a must. | cylinder
04.17.17 | desert of hiatus - the healing instrument | hal1ax
04.17.17 | Vladimir Sofronitsky - Scriabin Recitals | Ocean of Noise
04.17.17 | Try Boulez's piano sonatas (and 12 Notations), Stockhausen's Klavierstucke, George Crumb's Microcosmos, and maybe some later Messiaen if you're looking for something more modern. | Ocean of Noise
04.17.17 | Also for more early 20th century try Schoenberg's piano music, Berg's piano sonata op. 1, Webern's Piano Variations, anything by Bartok really | hal1ax
04.17.17 | Lol damn I'm gonna have to steal a few of these recs ocean. Been meaning to check Prokofiev and Grieg | Dewinged
04.17.17 | Wow I know who to ask the next time. Nice job Ocean. For some ambient and recent stuff, I can rec Bing & Ruth - No Home of the Mind, not classical, but pretty chill with the addition of some nice strings too. | vonseux
