05.02.17 | I don't know yet. I'm not that hooked. I guess the all-over-the-place narrative structure will eventually have much more meaning and Ricky Whittle's stone face will show its charm (though I liked when he tried to crack jokes, made him look likeably cynical). Still, the visuals are utterly gorgeous and knowing how awesome the book is, the potential is nearly impossible to waste, especially when the head writer is Bryan Fuller. |

05.02.17 | Quite liked the book, will check eventually. McShane is usually great. |

05.02.17 | Been meaning to read the book for a while. Don't know if I'll watch the show or not. |
Rowan5215
05.02.17 | you will definitely want to watch the show after you read it Boney, it's a stone cold 5/5 book
this might be McShane's best role in his whole career tbh |
Wolfhorde
05.02.17 | Visuals were nice but the plot structure seemed confusing and weird (disclaimer: I haven't read the book and Idk whether it's a prerequisite for understanding what's happening). I get the general gist (blah blah faith reality blah blah) but I find it to be an odd setting. |

05.02.17 | where do I watch this? |

05.02.17 | I'm definitely enjoying it. Main character was a main character in another show I watch, until he was killed off. Really enjoyed his acting and he's really keeping it up. |

05.02.17 | I fucked the book off. Shite. |

05.02.17 | Very excited to watch the first episode. My girlfriend wants to watch it with me though so I have to wait until we have the same day off. Which sucks. |

05.02.17 | Ian McShane brings the flair. Don't know what to make of it though, I think I'll reserve judgement until a few more episodes. |

05.02.17 | Incredible 1st ep. That Leprechaun dude is my favorite character so far. That sex scene was crazy. |
Rowan5215
05.02.17 | ah zak as usual your elegant, sublime wording leaves men speechless at the accuracy and delicacy of your opinions
@wolf reading the book would definitely help but they've definitely done work in upgrading it for 2017 so you'll probably get an entirely different experience being new to the show, which is cool. can see your complaints about the structure but I'm sure it will resolve itself soon |
butcherboy
05.02.17 | haven't read the book or seen the show, but Mark Lanegan recorded a great cover of a trad song called In the Pines for it.. it's better than all of his new album.. |

05.03.17 | Technical Boy's introduction was one of the coolest things ever. |

05.15.17 | this show just keeps giving
Jacquel, Media, Czernobog and especially Anansi are fucking inspired casting |

05.15.17 | I absolutely despise the book so I'm not so sure I want to watch this... |

Astral Abortis
05.15.17 | Probably just indicates that we have conflicting tastes, which isn't a big deal. |
Astral Abortis
05.15.17 | I'm still marginally interested because I'm not totally opposed to the concepts, the book just really left a bad taste. |
Pajolero
05.15.17 | Loved the books, haven't seen the show yet. Hope they got Anansi right, dude was my favorite character. |
Rowan5215
05.15.17 | yeah nah I can definitely understand how the book would put someone off, it's one of my favourites because I read it at a young age and it opened up the world of books in general for me
the show is more violent, more beautiful, more ponderous and a bit snappier. you can tell Gaiman's British guy talking about America humour has been tempered a bit by more foulmouthed actual American humour, but the themes of faith (obviously) and the curiousity in exploring heartfelt, beautiful side stories with depth and respect remains. it's one of the best book adaptations I've ever seen |
Rowan5215
05.15.17 | Anansi is very different but arguably even better than in the book, and from his one scene thus far the actor honestly deserves Emmy consideration |

05.15.17 | Got to watch the first episode and had mixed feelings but I think the show will get better as it goes. Wasn't expecting two Coming to America segments.
Cons: The cemetery scene dialogue with Robbie's wife was absolutely terrible. The budget seems directed at CGI which is necessary sometimes, but it leaves some of the regular scenes looking cheap, like the airplane flight. Bilquis scene made me lol when she was pushing his tiny head in her like a reverse birth- I don't know how the hell else you can portray that on TV, but still.
Pros: Casting has been mostly awesome with the main exception being Robbie's wife. Ricky Whittle seems like he will settle into the role well and Ian McShane is primed to deliver a career-defining performance. The 'dream' sequences capture the weirdness of dreams well which I expected from Fuller. Mad Sweeney is exactly the prick I was expecting him to be and some of Low-Key's dialogue was good. Speaking of pricks, the intro to Technical Boy was great.
Going to watch the next episode tonight, hoping and expecting it will get better. |
Rowan5215
05.24.17 | robbie's wife definitely proved her acting credentials this episode lmao that laura/audrey scene was fucking incredible. the CGI has been super dodgy for sure
honestly maybe the most perfectly cast show on TV |

05.24.17 | Yeah, it has been getting better. I'm one episode behind, I think. |

05.24.17 | Been wanting to see this. |

05.24.17 | eh, I'm feeling this might not be as good as I want it to be... I'll continue watching, but so far it's been good at best. |

05.24.17 | I had really, really low expectations and I think that's working in my favor, but I haven't been blown away by anything yet either. I'm really liking Czernobog, Wednesday and Mad Sweeney. |
