That's the beauty of music, different people hear/like different things. I understand why The Beatles are heralded as pioneers & their legendary status is unquestioned, whether this means their music sounds incredible is certainly down to the individual. Respect & enjoyment don't necessarily go together.

They wouldn't sound like that either. You can't decontextualize music. Actually that can be said for all these artists coz they were all seminal to their respective genres to some degree.

Rik VII 06.02.17	Yeah I guess I can get behind that. There's just this implication that a band that has had a huge role in influencing others deserves to be high regarded, which is illogical. So yeah, a band being influential is more or less an objective thing, but it doesn't have to mean that the band can't be overrated. If you had to contextualize everything to form an opinion on it, you'd have to literally listen to every album the artist has ever listened to to make sure it was purely original or that is wasn't just an accident that this album was influential and not some of the stuff it imitated, hahah
