Snune -17
Guess who's back, back again // Sniff is back, tell your friends. As usual 2017 stuff I jammed this past month only. How's your summer going so far my northern hemisphere friends? + Hit me up with some sweet recs will ya! |
1 | | Broken Thoughts Realign
4.0 [sound design, IDM] "Broken Thoughts' near-flawless technique and sound design yields a stunning suite of themes and atmospheres." |
2 | | Mister Lizard 7"
4.0 [spazz] this is the new cool. Shorter than Trumps temper (7 songs in under 6 minutes) this is for the kids who forgot what spazz should be like. |
3 | | Umfang Symbolic Use of Light
4.0 [chill techno] this is my new favorite genre |
4 | | Hidden Orchestra Dawn Chorus
4.0-3.5 [jazzy trip hop] a summers breeze upon thee chest. Somewhere between The Flashbulb and Innercity Ensemble and check this for summers best drift away stuff. |
5 | | Joni Void Selfless
4.0-3.5 [ambient, techno, sound design] a few questionable artistic choices in an otherwise awesome record. |
6 | | Lascive Dopamine Latin American Tech
4.0-3.5 [latin house, techno, idm] A bit hesitant to give this a four but some tracks just go to hard. Positive surprise of the year this. |
7 | | Oudeis Theorema of Reality
3.5-4.0 [IDM] this is what really good IDM sounds like. |
8 | | Endon Through The Mirror
3.5-4.0 [noise, black metal, hardcore, experimental borderlining post metal and prog] Have you ever looked at japanese people and thought to yourself. Why can't they just be normal? Well I'm glad they're out there as long as it means they produce stuff as amazing as this. The highs on this record are through the roof but the lows on the other hand, way too much boring prog/experimental parts to keep me interested. Your Ghost is Dead and Torch Your House are highlights. |
9 | | Orphax & Machinefabriek Weerkaatsing
3.5 [drone] beautiful in it's simplicity |
10 | | Vokonis The Sunken Djinn
3.5 [stoner/doom metal] Sweden represent! Worth a spin or two or three or more for sure. |
11 | | Kati Briens Dream Band Happy Music
3.5 [jazz] smelling of Miles Davis. |
12 | | Wren Kitz Dancing on Soda Lake
3.5 [sadcore] this brings the feels quite heavily. |
13 | | Bearthoven Trios
3.5 [jazz, modern classical] lots of variety and it's all done with great finesse |
14 | | Stevens / Dessner / Muhly / McAlister Planetarium
3.5 [space pop] this album is too full of itself to not be likeable |
15 | | Palm (PA) Shadow Expert
3.5 [math rock, alt rock] yes this is as good as people say it is. |
16 | | Bill Seaman Erasures and Displacements
3.5 [ambient] Bill Seaman with a haunting experience to be cherished. |
17 | | Second Woman S/W
3.5 [IDM] barely reaches above the 3.5 mark. Has a lot going on but not really a lot going for it. |
18 | | Hiro Kone Love is the Capital
3.5 [techno, what else?] weird trip but nice trip. Check. |
19 | | Svartsyn (Sweden) In Death
3.5 [black metal] cut the crap-black metal. It's real nice. |
21 | | Ekoplekz Bioprodukt
3.5 [IDM] more accessible than previous outings. Nothing that stands out tho. |
22 | | Dephosphorus Impossible Orbits
3.5 [grind, black metal] space themed, thick as a brick and so forth. |
23 | | Laptop Funeral Pretty Punk
3.5 [lo-fi indie] so sad. I think you sad bois will dig. + NYP on bandcamp |
24 | | Khotin New Tab
3.5 [ambient, wavemusic] the must summery slab of wave you'll hear all year. |
25 | | Martin Rev Demolition 9
3.5-3.0 [experimental] the totally all over the place-y experimental album you never know you needed |
26 | | Teleplasmiste Frequency is the New Ecstasy
3.5-3.0 [drone] freakish and haunting but also not earning it's length. |
27 | | Impetuous Ritual Blight Upon Martyred Sentience
3.0 [death & doom] not the best in the genre but passable. |
28 | | Norska Too Many Winters
3.0 [sludge] cookiecutter sludge |
29 | | Max Richter Out of the Dark Room
3.0 [soundtrack] soothing and stuff but too disjointed to work as a record much like most soundtracks usually are. |
30 | | Brutus Burst
3.0 [up beat punk] with some influence from the indie pop side of post rock. |
31 | | Tombs The Grand Annihilation
3.0 [sludge, black metal] seems like a couple of nerds who has listened to all the cool bands and badly want to be them |
32 | | Worst MMXVII
3.0 [kraut, post-punk] I can't shake the feeling that post punk is usually made by people who can't write decent songs and it always drags a lot because of that. Cut the fat and get angry all you post punkers! |
33 | | Gravetemple Impassable Fears
3.0 [drone] would be better without Attila tbh. |
34 | | Hante Between Hope & Danger
3.0 [darkwave] pretty stale genre tbh |
35 | | Schammasch The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite
3.0 [industrial, black metal, ritual] ye and nah in the same package |
36 | | Jefre Cantu-Ledesma On The Echoing Green
3.0 [shoegaze, ambient] no vox on a shoegaze record? |
37 | | Chihei Hatakeyama Mirage
3.0 [ambient] nothing that sticks but it works |
38 | | Cloudface Variations
3.0 [chill ambient] Variations is an exploration of the Korg Mono/Poly Synthesizer. |
39 | | Hortlax Cobra Lightworks
3.0 [electronic dark pop] weird but also in a way not weird. Check if you dig this genre |
40 | | Arve Henriksen Towards Language
3.0 [jazz] starts off strong but it's hard for me to keep focused through this even tho it has quite a short run time. |
41 | | The Selva The Selva
3.0 [experimental, jazz] if you dig improvisation |
42 | | Ted Hearne Sound from the Bench
3.0 [choir and arrangement] cool concept backed with drums and guitar. You should check |
43 | | Suffocation …Of the Dark Light
3.0 [death metal] it's passable for someone not familiar with their top work I guess. |
44 | | Chuck Johnson Balsams
3.0 [steel guitar post rock, ambient] quite the chill album on a monday evening |
45 | | Moby More Fast Songs About the Apocalypse
3.0 [punkish] catchy actually. |
46 | | Timber Timbre Sincerely, Future Pollution
3.0 [dark shoegaze, gothic] with weird funk influences |
47 | | White Ward Futility Report
2.5 [black metal, nonsense] under piles of Careless Whisper sax gimmicks and bad genre bending some decent black metal is to be found. |
48 | | Chastity Belt I Used To Spend So Much Time Alone
2.5 [shoegaze] super unexciting |
49 | | SikTh The Future in Whose Eyes?
2.5 [progressive metal, djent-ish, mathcore-ish] I don't know why an outspoken hater of progressive metal like me even try this. Instumentation ranges from kinda cool to poorly bland technical wankery. And you know if an album features Spencer it's going to suck big time. Ngl Weavers of Woe is a cool track tho. |
50 | | Wax Fang Victory Laps
2.5 [classic rock] why am I listening to a records worth of classic rock in 2017? |
51 | | Alma (AUS) Oeo
2.5 [folk] boring folk music. |
|
