09.11.17 | Any recs based on this list? |
Papa Universe
09.11.17 | Dunno about recs based on the list, gotta go check out your pie chart, that'll give me some ideas. |
butcherboy
09.11.17 | my pie chart is pretty on point.. |
Asdfp277
09.11.17 | i recommend ibuprofen |
TheSonomaDude
09.11.17 | i listen to alot of jazz but i dont think jazz is even a sliver on my chart |
Ryus
09.11.17 | my pie chart is fairly accurate in terms of my listening habits except there should be an indie slice |
Papa Universe
09.11.17 | Tides from Nebula - Safeheaven
If These Trees Could Talk - Red Forest
This Social Coil - Time
Anna Meredith - Varmints
Birth of Joy - Get Well
Positive Noise - Heart of Darkness |
superluminals
09.11.17 | Other than some missing tags the pie chart is cool and one of my favorite sputnik features, mine is rather accurate. |
Papa Universe
09.11.17 | The charts are only as accurate as the tags on the things you rate... |
Asdfp277
09.11.17 | the pie chart only takes into consideration the 8 most popular tags from ur ratings, just in case guys |
TheSonomaDude
09.11.17 | IDK a single fucking thing about the post genres, but maybe you'd like this:
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/69972/Chipmunkson16speed-Sludgefest/
it's got the sludge, the trip, the chill, and the riffs. i think you'd like it. also check Horn Of The Rhino for an underrated sludge/doom metal band |
Allergist
09.11.17 | @unique: I've listened to a few of those, they're all good! Still need to check out Anna Meredith |
Allergist
09.11.17 | @TheSonoma: Judging by the review and genre tags, that sounds really damn interesting. Will give it a listen soon! Im also a fan of HOTR and agree they are underrated! |
theBoneyKing
09.11.17 | I like pie charts because they're a quick and easy way to tell if a user has shitty taste. |
Asdfp277
09.11.17 | in a way... yeah |
Allergist
09.11.17 | But what if the charts aren't really accurate at describing someone. |
superluminals
09.11.17 | I would of thought a users 5's is a lot more accurate in telling if they have shit taste as opposed to the pie chart |
Allergist
09.11.17 | Yeah I think that's more accurate. 5's are basically someone's best of the best. |
theBoneyKing
09.11.17 | I mean, if a user has a buttload of metal genres in their pie chart then I know we're not compatible, it's not that hard.
As I see it, the top 4 or so genres shown are definitely representative of the person's taste, after that it's kind of a toss-up. |
butcherboy
09.11.17 | if I had to pick a pie to describe my music taste, it would be pecan.. I think it covers post-punk, Tom Waits, and some hard bop jazz nicely |
Allergist
09.11.17 | I think it's just that I listen to a lot of fusion bands. Like I don't ever listen to black metal on its own, but I'll listen to black post all the time |
Chortles
09.11.17 | mine is pretty accurate tbh |
hal1ax
09.11.17 | what does it mean when i have a quite large experimental piece of pie???
it means i'm smart right? |
Allergist
09.11.17 | If you want it to! |
Drifter
09.11.17 | I don't think I have a pie chart lol |
butcherboy
09.11.17 | Boney, you'd be Apple because you like country
hal, you'd definitely lean towards Blueberry, with all that thick treacly noise |
macman76
09.11.17 | Pie charts are generally frowned upon as a data viz method |
Chortles
09.11.17 | do i smell your next list idea butcher?? |
Asdfp277
09.12.17 | idk why i have so much experimental either, it's overrepresented in pie charts for some reason |
butcherboy
09.12.17 | hahaha, nah.. already used the three best pies here |
hal1ax
09.12.17 | ayo i love blueberry pie.
key lime is my fav tho. can i be key lime? |
Ryus
09.12.17 | pecan, pumpkin, and peach |
TheWrenKing
09.12.17 | blackberry ! |
butcherboy
09.12.17 | no, hal, key lime is clearly for people who love Cuban music.. amazing pie though |
superluminals
09.12.17 | That's because the experimental tag is extremely broad, tape music, field recordings, lowercase, eai, etc all fit here. |
TheSonomaDude
09.12.17 | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxMtRGlRdKU |
Allergist
09.12.17 | Oh no
What have I started |
Chortles
09.12.17 | but it's also abused here, i'm p sure most of my "experimental" slice is from stuff like radiohead etc being tagged |
Ryus
09.12.17 | yeah my experimental tag probably comes from radiohead and like every jazz artist being tagged experimental |
TheWrenKing
09.12.17 | a true milestone when my alt rock slice was purged |
Asdfp277
09.12.17 | "That's because the experimental tag is extremely broad, tape music, field recordings, lowercase, eai, etc all fit here" but i don't listen to any of that, nor do i listen to jazz often (even tho it's also on my pie chart). i've also asked the mods cuz my pie chart is v. unstable
we shouldn't tag everything 'experimental' tho, like tyler the creator |
Chortles
09.12.17 | i agree, alt rock is a truly wretched slice |
Asdfp277
09.12.17 | i loved my alt rock pie slice from when i had every the gathering album rated |
superluminals
09.12.17 | Well yeah I agree that radiohead and Tyler shouldn't get the experimental tags
Tyler probably got it because he makes "experimental hiphop" |
Chortles
09.12.17 | u have a very interesting pie i must say
edit: fuck
edit 2: well, both of u really |
hal1ax
09.12.17 | o ya haha i almost forgot radiohead has an experimental tag
and what even is cuban music |
Ryus
09.12.17 | an excellent pie chart |
butcherboy
09.12.17 | hal, Celia Cruz, and a whole pile of amazingness.. Cuban music is beautiful |
TheWrenKing
09.12.17 | i like seein the charts with 3-4% on a slice
just a mouthful
|

09.12.17 | celia cruz rules
(or at least "la vida es un carnaval") |
Asdfp277
09.12.17 | superluminals' piechart is great |
BlazinBlitzer
09.12.17 | I think my chart has too much prog rock. Yeah, it's the genre I listen to most, but it's not the margin the chart makes it out to be. Other than that, it's really accurate (though hip-hop should be somewhere in my pie chart by now) |
Zeneren
09.12.17 | mine is pretty accurate except it would have a much greater proportion of electronic if there was a bit more depth in the releases here. |
Asdfp277
09.12.17 | deviant (aka sputnik's electronic savior) set up the rule that for electronic artists -- who tend to release mostly singles -- it's ok to upload singles as "EPs"
i fully recommend adding new albums and artists to the database if there are any missing, and you can do this without being a contrib or asking a mod or anything. it would be really helpful and nice if you have the time >:] |
Zeneren
09.12.17 | I try to as much as I can but I don't have the time to input every single one.
Actually tried to input an artist (DJ Xanax) last time and the servers crashed my internet for half an hour |
Asdfp277
09.12.17 | when the site's servers are down, the artists are put in a queue which will upload the artists once the servers are fine again. i haven't heard of the servers blocking /your/ internet connection tho, they mostly just block you from visiting the site at all
i usually upload one new artist and wait for a couple of days until the artist is finally uploaded, then in that day i'll know that i can upload as many artists as i want.
if you feel like it, you can drop a couple of artists that are not on the database yet in my shoutbox and i'll upload them when i find the time. i've been doing it a lot and now feel more or less confident in knowing the mysterious ways of the servers |
Zeneren
09.12.17 | Yeah sorry you're right, it blocked me accessing the site which was rather frustrating.
If you can upload 'Second Storey' and his new album though that would be appreciated.
If not I'll try adding them again when i get more time the next weeks. |
Asdfp277
09.12.17 | if you already added them once, it's better if you don't try it again with the same artist -- it will just create several copies of the same artist. if you struggle to add an artist once, just wait until it uploads magically a couple of days later
site is... odd |
