09.15.17 | List inspired by 3 upcoming shows this weekend, and not expecting a lot of people at any of them.
(inb4 "it's because you play pop-punk") |

09.15.17 | Are you Michael Scott? |
DinosaurJones
09.15.17 | I wish I was Michael Scott, quite honestly. Things turn out pretty all right for him in the end. |
Frivolous
09.15.17 | CT's music scene is surprisingly good. Quite a bit of emo (TWIABP, Sorority Noise), some hip-hop (Apathy, Kemba) and some experimental stuff too (Have a Nice Life, tUnE-yArDs) |
Satellite
09.15.17 | i grew up going to shows in detroit, which is one of the greatest music scenes in the u.s., if not the best (but i'm obviously biased). great local bands, too.
albuquerque/santa fe has a relatively shitty scene. very little energy at shows, plus most of the major tours skip us because of the geographical isolation. but i've still been to some awesome shows here.
also i'm 30 and i don't go to as many shows as i did 10-15 yrs ago. |
Dissonant
09.15.17 | Pretty much none. I live in a moderate sized town in the deep south. Not really much going on here |
TheSonomaDude
09.15.17 | There's a huge indie rock/shoegaze scene here in Houston and I guess a decent soundcloud rapper scene but not much else tbh
Austin basically has a booming scene in every genre. My favorite is the stoner metal scene that's been exploding for over a decade. |
DinosaurJones
09.15.17 | One of the decent things about being here is that I'm only 2.5 hours from both NYC and Philly, so I can make it to a lot of decent shows with not too much hassle. |
Sinternet
09.15.17 | brighton has a pretty fantastic and acclaimed scene, i'll list off a bunch of acts shortly |
Satellite
09.15.17 | @dino see that's what i'm missing here. it's 10 hrs to austin and 6 to both phoenix and denver. sucks. |

09.15.17 | Seattle, no explanation needed. |

09.15.17 | mines pretty great im spoiled |

09.15.17 | I really don't know about my area (East Bay Area), but 2-3hrs away from me up in the Reno/Sparks and Grassvalley areas there seems to be a pretty big metal scene, more so on the death/sludge/doom side. My cousin has been a bassist in a few bands up there
I actually kind of dig the name of the band he is in now, albeit a bit cheesy. "A Turn for the Hearse" lol |
butcherboy
09.15.17 | new York, no explanation needed.. |
Satellite
09.15.17 | the east bay used to be a mecca of punk rock. |
Papa Universe
09.15.17 | No particular city I live in, no particular scene. I am a citizen of the world. My local scene is as good as the world itself. |
starboystargirl
09.15.17 | Quebec.
All progressive DM bands. Gets tiring after a while. They all sound the same. |
dctarga
09.15.17 | Yeah definitely in the Oakland/Berkeley area (Green Day, Rancid, Op Ivy, to name a few), I'm like 15mi east of that. We had some shitty band called RU36 that got kind of popular |
butcherboy
09.15.17 | Unique, with his passive aggressive way of saying I Heart Manu Chao |
Papa Universe
09.15.17 | butcherboy's aussie-junkie-hippie detectors working full-speed again |
Snake.
09.15.17 | used to be popping a couple of years ago but then this really shitty collective took over every venue in the county and shut them down
now it's just shitty high school metalcore bands, all of my friends from the scene now have to play in either brooklyn or philly |
DinosaurJones
09.15.17 | That sucks, Snake. Most of the places around here are pretty open to all genres. |
NorwichScene
09.15.17 | Not too bad.. Ed Sheeran, Fightstar, Deaf Havana, Mallory Knox, Ducking Punches, The Darkness, Cradle of Filth and James Blunt LOL. Some members of Marmozets have now moved here too |
Snake.
09.15.17 | either that or they're all house shows and even those are few and far between nowadays
all of my friends that are in my age group have gone away to uni anyway so nothing even happens until winter or summer break |
DinosaurJones
09.15.17 | Nice mix you got going on there. |
Snake.
09.15.17 | anyway literally the only big bands to come out of my scene is coheed and cambria and some scrubs who ended up on a blink-182 tribute album
dan spitz went to my high school which is also cool i guess |
Satellite
09.15.17 | the drummer for sonic youth is from my hometown m/ |
Sinternet
09.15.17 | Johnny Truant, Bonobo, Architects, Royal Blood, The Go! Team, British Sea Power, Dead Swans, Blood Red Shoes, The Ghost of a Thousand, Bat For Lashes, Passenger, The Kooks, Fatboy Slim, Fink, The Levellers, The Maccabees, Fear of Men, Quantic, Juno Reactor, Gazelle Twin, forgetting a shit ton but thats off the top of my head
also got a load of cool record labels centred here and some pretty dope venues |
DungeonBoy
09.15.17 | Richmond, VA - Gwar, Municipal Waste, Iron Reagan, Strike Anywhere, Lamb of God, Down to Nothing, Count me Out are all varying degrees of famous in their scenes. There are a lot of great local metal bands for sure, but the punk scene has kinda died out over the years. We have some great venues, and it's a popular destination for a lot of bands touring through VA. |
Satellite
09.15.17 | richmond has a ridiculous hxc scene |
DungeonBoy
09.15.17 | Yeah the hardcore scene is something else. |

09.15.17 | Speaking about Ukraine as a country, our local music scene used to be largely this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcJWd3rgyCQ
Nowadays it's largely this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3Go8ub9a1k
In other words, everything is very bad and all hope is lost.
(Before you ask, yes, we do have some rock bands. Mostly they are boring as hell) |
DungeonBoy
09.15.17 | Dude, Ukraine. Drudkh, Nocturnal Mortum. Not too shabby. |
TheSonomaDude
09.15.17 | Ukraine??? Fucking nice man |

09.15.17 | Not good |

09.15.17 | both of the vids are gold
the second one is absolutely incomprehensible |
Divaman
09.15.17 | Long Island has always had some kind of a scene going on. The two problems are: 1. The Island is huge and sprawling -- there's not really a central location for music; and 2) The original music bands always have an uphill fight to distinguish themselves vs. the cover bands. Cover and tribute bands often dominate. Also, a few years back when parts of Brooklyn started to thrive as music meccas, a lot of Long Island artists moved away from the Nassau/Suffolk area to be where the action was. |
dctarga
09.15.17 | both of the vids are gold
the second one is absolutely incomprehensible [2]
I want to play the second one in the next dubtrack jam lol |

09.15.17 | The Grassabillies! Great local band for me |
RogueNine
09.15.17 | The one at my previous locale was amazing; sad I had to move in May. |
AnimalsAsSummit
09.16.17 | the northeast ohio scene is pretty dull overall but you'll find gems here and there |
Dewinged
09.16.17 | Osaka's local scene is madness, plenty of shows, and bands coming from Tokyo, etc. Not many international acts though, and those who come are expensive. |
CaimanJesus
09.16.17 | We have a native singer named George leech, and one of the members of klaatu used to live here. That's it. |
Trebor.
09.16.17 | los angeles it's hard to find the good local bands just because there's so much fucking music and LA is so spread out |
theacademy
09.16.17 | agree with u there dude LA sucks ass |
DinosaurJones
09.18.17 | Ugh, cover bands drive me nuts. Like, it's understandable for bands that aren't around anymore, but cover/tribute bands to acts that are still around drive me absolutely insane.
There is/was a hugely popular Weezer tribute band around here. They pulled in pretty big crowds, and it made me bonkers. Same with a Blink tribute band that came through. |
NorthernSkylark
09.18.17 | Non-existent |
PistolPete
09.18.17 | Toronto is either Top 40 / EDM / or Alt/Indie Rock. You'd almost never hear hip-hop on the radio or anything remotely heavy for rock unless it's older bands like Nirvana. Pretty shit music scene if you ask me but I'm just a curmudgeon. |
DinosaurJones
09.18.17 | Oh, radio around here is pretty terrible. They barely support the local scene at all, and when they do it's at terrible/inconvenient times, like "It's 2 AM, time for the local music hour! AKA More like half an hour because of ads and BS"
It's mostly top 40, or 90s's alt-rock/grunge. I think there's an oldies station that does 60s and 70s stuff. |
matbla00
09.19.17 | id love to share some of the albums but firstly they are all in polish and secondly it's all rap, so i am not sure if fitting spunik taste |

09.22.17 | I'm in Austin, TX. It's all music everywhere from everybody. You can't drive to the store without hitting a budding musician (usually on a bike). |
