11.11.17 | Anyone have experience doing this sort of thing? I'm not expecting to make much money, but I'd like to do a good job of this and run a respectable gig. List is some bands whose member(s) made their own label(s). |

11.11.17 | fairly decent idea for your style
not much of a helping hand myself here but the guy who started the record label that put out the bay faction album used to post to places like reddit about how he got started which you might find useful, i'll have a look if i can dig up some posts
maybe a good idea would be to donate a certain amount to some kind of good cause because it gives you a good reputation + publicity, lot's of startup/DIY labels do |

11.11.17 | you could unite with that one lad that wanted to make an all-sput projects label... aye? |
Sevengill
11.11.17 | sweet, thanks for the tip Sint. fortunately I have at least one band people are interested in, haha. sput projects are obv on the table. |
ScuroFantasma
11.12.17 | Sweet idea seven, good luck with it |
Astral Abortis
11.12.17 | Don't just dub them yourself, the quality will be atrocious. Use duplication.ca and get them professionally printed at low costs. |
Sevengill
11.12.17 | I'll take your word that it's a good service. |

11.12.17 | I ran a DIY label for a few years.
Be prepared to spend more money than you make, sell less copies then you expect, and for anything that can go wrong during the duplicating/printing/distributing process to do so.
Also you've already learned another golden rule, that most people won't help you unless it directly benefits them (probably just a life rule, really).
I would also recommend getting a better duplicator whenever you're able. I don't know the details of your CD-to-tape recorder, and home dubs can be seemingly fine, but for the purposes of releasing cassettes you'll want to have a proper dubbing set-up, or as Astral Abortis suggested, get them professionally dubbed (duplication.ca is one I would also recommend).
But I assume like me you're doing this for personal reasons as opposed to financial, in which case all I'll say is don't let the ugly reality of running a label get your motivation down. Do your thing, do it consistently and do it regularly, and you should be able to build a base and have some fun doing it. |
Sevengill
11.12.17 | woah, thanks Rasp. yeah I'm doing it mostly for the fun of finding bands with potential that need a starting point and giving them one. hopefully I can make it something like Black Noise (Argentina), a boutique label that created my first opening with a 50 cd run.

that's the machine I've got. researched a lot of them and decided it was the best one with the most options at a reasonable price. |

11.12.17 | Good luck! Ive had some cassette releases of my ambient stuff but I dont really have any advice besides what rasputin said |

11.17.17 | Eiki 8080 came in today. This thing is a beast and the sound quality seems great so far. Good job, YouTube reviews. |
XingKing
11.17.17 | How much did the 8080 set you back? |
Sevengill
11.17.17 | $280 from Walmart online. The price is also discounted because it's technically an academic tool. |

11.17.17 | Remember to stuff paper into the holes so you can re-record over the cassette. |

11.17.17 | Pfft, thanks. I'll just leave the tabs until it's ready to go. |
