Drifter's 2018 Points of Interest
Staring a new series in honor of the new year where for every album I listen to, I put it in here and hopefully write my thoughts on all of them when I first check them and down the line add more depending on how my opinions change. I want to become a better writer and I like to see when I first check an album just cuz so I figure it's a win-win |

The Massacre

Kicking off 2018 right with this one. I really don't understand the hate for this. Sure, some of the tracks could've been left off I suppose but a 2.2 average? Maybe it's just because I'm a fan of 50 but I don't see it. This album is basically Get Rich or Die Tryin' part 2 but not quite as consistent. That said though, this has many highs and unforgettable tracks like the sole Eminem collaboration "Gatman & Robbin'," the hit "Candy Shop," and the G-Unit remix to The Game's classic song "Hate It Or Love It." You're not gonna find much in terms of thought provoking lyricism, but there's plenty of witty lyrics and plenty of excellent beats that make it not even matter. Not to mention the hooks. Like with Get Rich or Die Tryin' and basically anything else 50 did, the hook game is simply elite. I personally love his sung hooks like on "I'm Supposed To Die Tonight," "Outta Control," "Get In My Car," and "God Gave Me Style." Overall this is just an excellent rap album.

Truth be told, I first listened to this when it first came out/leaked back in August. It was a meh quality YouTube stream and I got bored halfway through. I wasn't really excited when it first came out. I wasn't really interested in anything Brand New outside of TDAG. For me, they were one of those bands where one album is enough. For some reason I started having a lot of interest in this recently and I'm glad I did. This is amazing. This is everything I'd want in a Brand New record. When I first listened to this, I did not care for the first two tracks. By the third track though I was hooked and on the second listen I began to love the first two as well. The guitar playing, the guitar playing, and Jesse's voice are all perfect. Don't even get me started on the choruses. For months, the thought of any Brand New record being better than TDAG was preposterous to me. Now I understand.
