dumb top 10 of 2018 list
same deal as always, releases must come out in 2018 and listened to me in 2018.
| Important Backlogging - Ling Tosite Sigure, Lupe Fiasco |
Other recommendations? (think of them as 11-15) - Joyce Manor, Sleep, Spanish Love Songs, 6ix9ine |
10 | | Primal Fear Apocalypse
Primal Fear is a great testament to German-engineering. I'm not denying them artistic credit, but they have a single range of three sounds, sourced from Stained Class to Painkiller-era Judas Priest and it gets tighter every release. |
9 | | Angra Ømni |
8 | | Haken Vector
By also cutting out fat that's plagued their previous releases, Haken have created an album that works on many levels. Its not that i distaste the prog-metal fandom, but the negative responses to their being only one 12 minuter song on here removing the "prog" nature of the album are funny as hell to read. |
7 | | Coheed and Cambria The Unheavenly Creatures
Coheed follows 2018's trend of returning to form, as they look upon what made their first 3 releases so great, creating something on par with No World for Tomorrow. They are still stuck between 70s prog and 90s alt rock, and that creates a really long, 15 track 80 minute album. The opener is fantastic and yet its stuck with a weak mid-section. |
6 | | Daughters You Won't Get What You Want
SWANS meets botch, impressive and daunting instrumentals. Lack of vocal variety really holds this back. |
5 | | Alkaline Trio Is This Thing Cursed?
I guess an impressive return from a band i never cared about. Its a bit embarrassing but this is my first real dive into their music. The production and delivery has throwbacks to early 2000s pop-punk with stylistic choices of the softer modern variety. |
4 | | Scandal (JPN) Honey
By cutting down a lot of the fat that's plagued previous releases, and working on flow they have created an album that's pretty lean and tight for J-POP/rock. I just wish they also trimmed "short-short" and .Madowoaketara, which are slower tracks that are not refreshing. |
3 | | mewithoutYou [Untitled]
I love Catch Us For The Foxes, but never really liked the more mellow direction they started heading towards, this is the best of both worlds. |
2 | | Judas Priest Firepower
Asides from two weak tracks, these heavy metal boomers made their best album since Painkiller. I really can't give it too much credit as my favorite priest releases really pushed the envelope while this feels like a great retread.. Give modern metal more Andy Sneap please. |
1 | | Band-Maid World Domination
The mastering is a bit too compressed, but the jam factor is unmatched.A perfect meld of hard rock and j-pop. The singles range from a poppy ballad to heavy metal, and its all strong, creative and incredibly catchy. |
