Taxt's 2017
These are my favs from everything I've heard, not ranked except for top 3.
After checking all the year end lists, I've got about 100 albums I wanna dig in to. Bless you Sput. |

13 | | '68 Two Parts Viper |

11 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor Luciferian Towers |
10 | | Alvvays Antisocialites |
9 | | Phoebe Bridgers Stranger In The Alps |
8 | | Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Killing Tingled Lifting Retreats
The Omar Rodriguez-Lopez solo train continued in 2017, and was inconsistent as ever. A few gems though: Killing Tingled Lifting Retreats, Zen Thrills, Roman Lips, and Gorilla Preacher Cartel were all solid. I'll give him props for Birth of a Ghost too, just for the balls it took to compose and release an orchestral album. |
7 | | At the Drive-In Diamanté
I'm lumping in both Diamanté & Interalia. What can I say, I love this band so much I'm digging the new stuff a lot, flaws and all. It's great to see Cedric back in his alternate universe schizoid propaganda mode, something I'll always be into. |
6 | | Converge The Dusk in Us
Queen of the garbage, prince of the weeds |
5 | | IDLES Brutalism
Did you see that selfie what Francis Bacon did?
Don’t look nothing like him, what a fucking div |
4 | | Julien Baker Turn Out The Lights
Demons mistaken for saints |
3 | | Idylls The Barn
Prayer for Terrene is a hell of a record to follow up, and while I don't think they topped it, The Barn is an incredible record on its own merits. Probably my favorite drum performance of the year, and the title track is a contender for my SOTY. |
2 | | Chelsea Wolfe Hiss Spun
This would be #1 for me, but it hasn't had as much replay value.
Hiss Spun is a nice amalgamation of all the styles she's explored in past albums, with an extra focus on heavy tones. It feels more cohesive than Abyss did IMO. Still an incredible live show too. |
1 | | Circa Survive The Amulet
I never thought Circa would claim my AOTY in 2017, but here we are.
This is their most consistent record in over a decade. It sounds immaculately crafted, yet simultaneously effortless. Gave this more spins than anything this year. Really impressed with this one. |
