02.05.18 | Just a hype thread in case anyone hasn't heard about it yet. |
Nazzadan
02.05.18 | Saw it, not speaking to the actual quality of the movie but it is very clear this movie was converted to being in the Cloverfield universe late in production. |
CaimanJesus
02.05.18 | Have only seen the first Cloverfield, but it was dope |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.05.18 | @nazzadan the entire point of the cloverfield universe is to showcase lesser known sci fi directors that wouldnt normally get as much attwntion. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.05.18 | They are connected purely in spirit of jj abrams approval |
BigPleb
02.05.18 | Not read good things about this and I still haven't seen 10 Cloverfield Lane yet either. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.05.18 | me neither but my roomie said it was good but he also rec'd me Jupiter Ascending ROFL and he has never lived that down |
Slex
02.05.18 | Thought there was a lot of really good elements and moments that never really cohered into a satisfying whole but it was still pretty good |
wwf
02.05.18 | it was good but very bad |
robotmagician
02.05.18 | I couldn’t even get through the first cloverfield because of how bad the acting was. i’m glad that these are not connected stories, I might give it a watch. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.05.18 | "it was good but very bad"
i love you |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.05.18 | "I couldn’t even get through the first cloverfield because of how bad the acting was. i’m glad that these are not connected stories, I might give it a watch."
lmao im with you on that, the first is the only one ive seen and i found it nauseating at best. and yay! same dude is doing batman now lol!
so finding out they are only spiritually connected was actually a good thing to hear for me |
bloc
02.05.18 | I love giant monster related things, so I will check it out |
DarkSideOfLucca
02.05.18 | Every reviewer I trust says it's like the worst thing in the world. I read a spoiler review because at that point I didn't care, and yeah it sounds like the worst thing ever. |
Egarran
02.05.18 | First one was entertaning enough, 10 Cloverfield Lane was great. I mostly heard this is pretty bad. |
JeetJeet
02.05.18 | This would've been way better if it just wasnt connected to Cloverfield at all. |
Clumseee
02.05.18 | Heard it was shit. 2 bad. |
Papa Universe
02.05.18 | It's not bad. When the big twist at the beginning hits, it's nervewrecking. But it is also filled with cringeworthy exposition, sloppy acting and plot that just sort of drags on, because once that big fuckery happens, there is really not a lot that happens of interest.
For my money, better go watch Altered Carbon, it's a much better sci-fi and it's also on Netflix. |
Papa Universe
02.05.18 | so at the end of the day it is interesting to watch, the central mystery is intriguing, but it also could use a little polishing in the dialogues and on-the-nose direction.. |
JeetJeet
02.05.18 | None of it makes sense when you really sit down and unpack it all. Its a convoluted mess. |
Kalopsia
02.05.18 | this movie suuuuuuuuuucked.
plus having that internet pundit guy explain the exact plot directly to the audience in the first 10 mins was an amazingly poor decision.
"those space scientists should not do the plot of this movie or else it'll cause the plot of the first Cloverfield movie to happen". like legit this was dialogue from the movie.
3/10 |
Nazzadan
02.05.18 | Yeah the Cloverfield Paradox author man was so bad. It's basically setting you up to accept that Clover showing up as a result of the experiment makes sense for some reason. The movie would have made much more sense if in the alternate universe they get transported to Clovers were walking all over fucking shit up and some ended up coming to their universe as a result. Instead they are completely separate from the plot of the movie and just a "welp, the experiment made them appear because the internet book man said monsters could show up." |
bloc
02.05.18 | Just show me the fuckin monsters destroying cities please |
Papa Universe
02.05.18 | you need a bigger budget for that. so just wait till Hulu buys it, i guess |
brainmelter
02.05.18 | I saw it last night with the girl, i was disappointed tbh. cool concepts and all but pretty cheesy and meandering. reminds me of a book called The Explorer. wish it had same quality as cloverfield lane. but it feels like a straight to Netflix movie lol 5.9/10 |
DarkSideOfLucca
02.05.18 | "Just show me the fuckin monsters destroying cities please"
[2]
This is all I ever wanted from this dumb fucking franchise and we have barely gotten any of that. Series sucks. |
brainmelter
02.05.18 | 'plus having that internet pundit guy explain the exact plot directly to the audience in the first 10 mins was an amazingly poor decision' yeah I couldn't believe that happened, what a stupid choice |
Nazzadan
02.05.18 | Apparently they think the modern movie fan can't handle the concept of alternate realities without it directly stated. They could have just easily had Tam and Schmidt look at eachother and in Mandarin say "Oh fuck, I think quantum entanglement shenanigans made us go to an alternate universe," and it wouldn't be as jarring since it was coming from the characters actually in the movie. |
Egarran
02.05.18 | Well the Pacific Rim sequel is gonna be awesome /s |
CygnusX1
02.05.18 | Super hyped all during the game, but the movie really didn't have a wow factor to it. The guy on the news program explaining the entire point of the movie was a terrible decision. People being teleported into walls and stuff was kinda interesting.
Overall it felt like a half-assed movie. Why should I care about boring one dimensional characters with little to no backstory? Some of the ideas were good but not fleshed out at all. Also do not like the connection to the Cloververse. These movies had huge ARG stuff to figure out that made it seem like there was a much bigger world to the movies. Then this just comes along and goes "science quantum dimension teleporting particle accelerator sci-fi" and then there's a giant monster. Good to see Clover again, but not like this.
10 cloverfield lane > Cloverfield >>>>>>>> Cloverfield paradox |
wwf
02.05.18 | honestly the first half hour was easily the most worrying part of the movie to me, it at least got interesting from there
right after the opening credits ended and the dialogue proper started, it was just the worst thing |
pjquinones747
02.05.18 | Took a few turns I didn't expect but I enjoyed it. I save my critical nature for music and enjoy most movies for simple mindless pleasures. |
Kalopsia
02.05.18 | When the trans-flux-inator went haywire, i so so so badly wanted Chris O'Dowd to make a "have you tried turning it off and on again" joke.

Wildhoney
02.05.18 | It wasn't half the movie 10 Cloverfield Lane was. Pretty shit through and through :( |
neekafat
02.05.18 | 10 Cloverfield Lane is great y'all need to get on that |
DarkSideOfLucca
02.05.18 | It was good but there was no reason for it to be a Cloverfield movie instead of it's own thing. This franchise is just a jumbled, disconnected mess - and it's been a fucking decade already so they've had more than enough time |
po0ty
02.05.18 | So frustrating to see supposed highly trained professional astronauts devolve into scared fucking children at the first sign of things going wrong. |
zaruyache
02.05.18 | dude the earth disappeared how tf do you want them to react?
movie was OK but yeah definitely a lot of problems. And 10 Cloverfield Lane was great [123]. And Altered Carbon so far has been a kinda lulzy mishmash of different scifi ideas (John Wick, Blade Runner, etc) but it's been fun as far as I've seen so I need to finish that, too. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.05.18 | First ep had some bioshock ste going on even |
Wildhoney
02.05.18 | the critics are keeping me away from Altered Carbon, but I might check an episode or 2 just because I'm a sucker for that brand of sci-fi. As for Cloverfield, I read the last two movies have been scripts that have been re-purposed to fit into the universe, which kind of explains the inconsistency. The movies are only going to be as good as the original script, or made worse by trying to force in elements of the universe. So far the fact that the last two movies take place in the Cloverfield universe has done little to actually improve the movies themselves. Well, a case could be made for 10 Cloverfield Lane, but imo it just made Paradox infinitely messier and shittier. |
Papa Universe
02.05.18 | Maybe it's the book fanboy in me talking, but Altered Carbon series is great. It feels a little stale and empty at first, what with the voiceovers and banal flashbacks, but all-in-all I came away satisfied. You will get into it. My biggest gripe, though, is that the action is often shot in a really choppy way and you can barely make sense of it. Also the Ortega character has such a strange accent and pronunciation (I guess that's how Mexicans speak, I don't know) that half the time I could not understand her.
Right now it is somewhere between flashing out completely and becoming actually a great watch, and becoming completely silly and over-the-top (much like the new Star Trek is, or Gotham. but Gotham is now intentionally dumb, while Discovery didn't realise its cringy nature yet). |
po0ty
02.05.18 | I know the earth disappearing would be a wtf for most people - but they are supposed to be the best earth has to offer, right? They are scientists that should be looking for a rational explanation before devolving into panic. Surely it is more likely they themselves traveled somewhere and didn't erase the whole planet. Then they continue to trust a woman from another reality that they pulled out of a wall. I love sci fi but I can suspend disbelief for only so many plot holes. |
po0ty
02.05.18 | As for Altered Carbon I never read the books so I can't really appreciate the characters but from the first episode the writing and acting seemed really bad. Maybe I'll give it another shot but people like the cliche over the top police lady and Bancroft took me out of it |
Papa Universe
02.05.18 | reasonable |
Kalopsia
02.05.18 | "Surely it is more likely they themselves traveled somewhere and didn't erase the whole planet. Then they continue to trust a woman from another reality that they pulled out of a wall. I love sci fi but I can suspend disbelief for only so many plot holes."
yep, exactly what i was thinking the whole time. |
CygnusX1
02.05.18 | I like that they tried to connect all the movies together into a similar thematic universe, but it was badly done. Cloverfield Paradox makes me less excited for the next one. Maybe a WW2 setting will actually work well? |
Nazzadan
02.05.18 | Yeah, a WW2 setting could force interesting things to actually happen. A bunch of 1940s Paratroopers would probably have more interesting reactions to Cloverfield-esque stuff than a bunch of scientists that lose all composure as soon as they lose a blue marble. |
Nazzadan
02.05.18 | I just realized the blue marble thing could apply to the Earth as well as the gyro. |
brainmelter
02.05.18 | so I think each movie is a different reality, because at the end you see the monster pop up over the fucking clouds. the monster in first one wasn't even taller than a lot of buildings in ny |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.05.18 | should have just kept them only in the same universe in spirit instead of trying to actually make plausible connections |
Nazzadan
02.05.18 | Yeah, just sorta a universe where fucked up shit keeps happening. Which this..kinda is? But they had to go and make it so the experiment somehow brought Clovie over and then eventually kickstarted an alien invasion. |
Kalopsia
02.05.18 | it just sucks that the movie they use to pretty much explain the existence and connectivity between all these movies was hardcore botched. i'll just retcon what this movie was going for in my head and forget it ever existed (much like the sw prequels) |
Kalopsia
02.05.18 | also wasn't it weird the Germans were plotting against the Russians? Again? like wut. |
brainmelter
02.05.18 | that's how I feel about the hobbit movies |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.05.18 | "i'll just retcon what this movie was going for in my head and forget it ever existed (much like the sw prequels)"
i like ur style |
zaruyache
02.05.18 | Just chalk up the goofiness to the paradox itself and forget the rest of the film ;p
Next film is supposed to involve Nazis having like magic or something, so that should be fun. |
Egarran
02.05.18 | Name a bad movie with nazis.
That's right, you can't. |

02.06.18 | So it's not as good as the last one is what I'm getting from the comments here. Still gonna watch though.
I dig the first and second parts though so hopefully it doesn't disappoint too hard. |
Rowan5215
02.06.18 | Chris O'Dowd was entirely the saving grace of this thing
WHAT ARE YA TALKIN ABOUT ARM |
wwf
02.06.18 | Disagree totally, I thought he was distracting in almost every scene he was in |
heck
02.06.18 | yeah he was one of the worst parts lol |
Rowan5215
02.06.18 | distracting in that he was the only element of the movie which was any good whatsoever? ...agreed |
grannypantys
02.06.18 | Movie sucked. Starting to think Bad Robot is a cursed production company. |
Egarran
02.06.18 | "I was trying to take that bet but then I found this and I'm thinking you're just probably right: https://youtu.be/kh30SN54HcU"
JFC. Ok, you win.
I had repressed Uwe Boll from my memory. To his credit, he plays Hitler in that movie. |
zaruyache
02.06.18 | Of you take it as a campy film then he and his accent are the best parts. Otherwise hehe was really out of place there. |
