| BEHEMOF Ranked REDUX
Been mullin this around for a while; was a bit difficult for me since they've put out so many albums AND have gone through three major sound changes. I've tried to be as objective as possible. The single criteria I used above all to determine where what album should fall in this list was completeness. | 1 | | Behemoth The Satanist
The Satanist is my No. One. This album is head and shoulders above anything they did during the bands Blackened Death phase ('99-2009). Suddenly, the trem-powerchord-trem-powerchord-pinch harmonic- riffs have disappeared and we've moved into various and sundry riffs, melodies, solos (mostly pentatonic) and an epic closer. Nergal, instead of trying to be as brutal as possible, opted to craft art. | 2 | | Behemoth Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic)
If you don't already know, before Behemoth became the Blackened Death Metal titans they are (were?) they were a Black Metal band. It feels strange to put Sventevith second, but in this album you have, and even the most ardent of Black Metal haters cannot deny this, a multitude of riffs, influences (including punk), soundscapes, and lyrical content that varies it enough to separate it from the rest of the average BM pack (not including bands like Darkthrone etc.) Sventevith is pure, raw, and aggressive, in other words, everything that Behemoth would hope to become. | 3 | | Behemoth Demigod
For the longest time Demigod and Sventevith was a toss up. I decided to make Demigod my number 3 and not my number 2 simply because how much Sventevith stands out from its respective pack, as opposed to how much Demigod stands out from other BDM. I suppose this isn't really fair to Demigod, but there has to be some valuative way to make objective judgements on albums regardless of how much you enjoy one over the other. Anyway, Demigod has to take the next highest up slot. This album is the peak of their Blackened Death years. For one thing it's their most complete of the decade. Every song, save for maybe Mysterium Coniunctionis, is varied enough from each other, something their lesser albums would fail horribly at, to keep the album interesting. Nergal finally learned how to craft solos that don't sound like they were written Jeff Hanneman's retarded brother. And don't forget, this is heavy. | 4 | | Behemoth Thelema.6
The single criteria I used above all to determine where what album should fall in this list was completeness. In other words, how many of the tracks are good vrs. how many are not. The biggest problem I found with Behemoth's song writing during the 2000's is that either their songs are really really really good or they are, quite frankly, terrible. Thelema.6 largely does not fall into this trap. Of course AntiChristian Phenomenon, Pan Satyros, and Christians to the Lions stand out. But so does An Act of Rebellion, and In the Garden of Dispersion. Moreover, this is the last time Behemoth would be as fast as they are and Nergal would sound as angry as he does. Youthful vigor abounds. | 5 | | Behemoth Satanica
I have the edge to Thelema.6 because it is tighter than Satanica. Nevertheless, the songs on this album that kick ass...kick ass. And while the rest don't quite kick it up to that notch they are great and varied listens anyway. Check "The alchemist's Dream" For example. .. Decade of Therion, LAM, and Chant for E 2000 are three of the best songs they've ever written. Youthful vigor also abounds. | 6 | | Behemoth Pandemonic Incantations
When I first got around to listening to this album I was floored. If you haven't already, you should read Shadows' review of this album. PI is Behemoth's most underrated album by a longshot. Most people think the bands sound changed on 1999's Satanica, but this is not true. PI is the album where Behemoth really starts to come into their own, blast beat's abound, Nergal's voice is deep, and we've got hot trem riffs for days. This is truly some of the most balanced and atmospheric Black/Death metal ever crafted. The only problem is the album can unfortunately sound a tiny bit repetitive, but this is as well crafted as you could want. A standout album. | 7 | | Behemoth Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond)
Frankly this is the album that Behemoth starts to become a meme of themselves. It's also the album where they began to slow down and clean the production, both were bad ideas. Nergal and the crew are on cruise control. Riff-solo-yelling-blah rinse and repeat. Is it heavy? yeah. Are the riffs good? sure. Is this a tight album? Tighter than Satanica. But it's as if Nergal decided to compose with his intellect and not his heart. There's a bigger picture, an umphf, if you will, an "it" factor, absent from the writing process. Also some of the songs are WAY too long. Here and Beyond is laughably bad, Blackest ov the Black is mired is trying to do too much, Harlot ov The Saints stinks except for the middle breakdown. | 8 | | Behemoth Evangelion
Evangelion gets the edge over the Apostasy because Nergal took much more care to craft his songs. The riffs are way more varied and Daimonos is a fucking sleeper, it could be the best intro song he ever wrote (sans BYTG). But the songs that suck...suck. | 9 | | Behemoth The Apostasy
The least inspired album of the Blackened Death years. The good songs are great, the bad songs are awful. Songs to check are Christgrinding Avenue, At the Left Hand Ov God, and Arcana Hereticae. | 10 | | Behemoth Grom

04.12.18 | Thats cause no one cares for 2 or 6. At most it could go above the apostasy. Theres nomway its above thelema or satanica. Its uninspired regardless of the fact that the songs, like most behemoth, are well crafted. | Rowhaus
