| This has been done: Ranking Opeth
My 2-cents. Based on current planetary position. Subject to change. | 1 | | Opeth My Arms, Your Hearse
Has always been and will always be the best one for me. Gritty, folksy, completely lovable record. All tracks rule, I could not start picking highlights. | 2 | | Opeth Heritage
That drumming, that jazziness, a lot of weird twists and turns, but when it clicks it does so big time. Did not like it when it came out but now it's my second favourite and has been for some time. I do not see that changing any time soon, either. | 3 | | Opeth Ghost Reveries
Probably their most well-known style, great feels, diversity, some all-time favourite jams. First three tracks are superb and Hours of Wealth is one of my favourite Opeth-tracks. | 4 | | Opeth Morningrise
Great one, if you're in the mood there's nothing better. Beautiful passages, nice riffing, tons of atmosphere. None of the tracks are weak. | 5 | | Opeth Watershed
Underrated (if there is such a thing as an underrated Opeth album), nice diversity. Gets the blood pumping! | 6 | | Opeth Deliverance
Who would have known? In recent years it kept climbing up the ranks, and now it's in 6th place? Whaaaat? Some seriously lovable jams (t/t, A Fair Judgement, Wreath), but By The Pain I See In Others just doesn't do it for me. | 7 | | Opeth Orchid
Great one, has some of my favourite tracks (The Twilight Is My Robe, Forest Of October). Rawer and more old-skool sounding, which is obviously great. | 8 | | Opeth Blackwater Park
Used to be my favourite, my first Opeth, but can't stand Harvest anymore and I might have overplayed the record in general. T/t is probably my favourite Opeth track though, does everything right. | 9 | | Opeth Still Life
Ha, shocking, I know. Some absolute bangers, duh, but the others are just plain better in my opinion. Plus I've always disliked Moonlapse Vertigo and recently Face Of Melinda has started to bore me. Love the solos in White Cluster though, and The Moor and Godhead's Lament are amazing oviously. Goes to show that they just have such a great discog if this is in 9th place! | 10 | | Opeth Pale Communion
Has a few nice jams, really love River, but sadly ditched all Heritage's awesomeness for a more generic and less jazzy approach. | 11 | | Opeth Damnation
Never really liked this one as much as the others, almost don't listen to any of it anymore. Not a good sign. Some nice tracks, but overall slipped into 11th place. | 12 | | Opeth Sorceress
I want to love it but I don't (yet?). A bit boring and I hate the production. Hopefully the next one will be better. | |

07.06.18 | looks controversial, nice! | Hawks
07.06.18 | Heritage at 2, Still Life at 9...........
Iβm out my friends. | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Haha, yeah, unpopular opinion, but still how I feel about them. Still Life's still a 4 though. | Zeuzo
07.06.18 | Still Life at 9 hurts
Sick list anyway m/ | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Thanks! Great band obv m/ | kalkwiese
07.06.18 | Heritage is definetly up there imo. Interesting list, man. Like it | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Thanks man! Heritage rules, yeah | Hawks
07.06.18 | 1 > 3 > 9 > 7 > 4 > 5 > 8 > 11 > 6 > 12 > 2 > 10 | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Cool! We agree on some of the high's and lows, but some others are completely swapped. Nice to see! | Hawks
07.06.18 | Yeah I mean I love everything except for the last 3 albums and even those are still pretty good. | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Yeah man, they're just so damn good. I have nine of them at a 4 or higher, that's insane if you think about it. | Demon of the Fall
07.06.18 | Damn, this is controversial. Nice list though, GOAT band (obviously). I do think Heritage gets a bad rep sometimes, don't like the last 2 though.
Still Life, Morningrise, Ghost Reveries are my current favourites.
MAYH, Damnation, Watershed & Orchid are next tier
Blackwater is in no-mans land by itself
Heritage/Deliverance
The other 2. | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Thanks! I love the place of Morningrise (an absolute beaut, might actually be better than GR, hmmm) and Ghost Reveries on your list, and nice that you enjoy Watershed that much, too! I think it's definitely up there. | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Agreed about ''the other 2'' too, ha. Hope they find some cool new inspiration for the next record. They are certainly missing some spark or soul. | DamnVanne
07.06.18 | I was just thinking I should revisit Opeth. Pale Communion was a damned tragedy and the first two singles from sorceress were the comedy so I honestly havenβt jammed Opeth at all since those came out. | bgillesp
07.06.18 | 3,1,8,9,2,10,6,5,11,4,12 | Demon of the Fall
07.06.18 | Is that a tie for 3rd, or are your counting skills amiss here? :-) | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Either way, Morningrise or Ghost Reveries is going to be his second to last worst (and his best). | bgillesp
07.06.18 | Morningrise is the one that sucks, my bad. Am I the only one that hates that album? | zaruyache
07.06.18 | My Arms first, sorceress last? Can dig. | Trifolium
07.06.18 | BG: If you ask me, yes! Morningrise is amazing. But it definitely needs to click with you for it to work. And when it does: heaven.
Thanks! | Trifolium
07.06.18 | How would you rank them Darius? | LethalPaintball
07.06.18 | 9 is 1 and i couldn't care less about the rest of the list | JustJoe.
07.06.18 | 9 is 1. 8 is 2.
π£ | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Don't agree, but good for you! | CygnusX1
07.06.18 | 8 9 1 5 3 6 11 the rest
I can't listen to their new stuff, unique ranking tho! | DarkSideOfLucca
07.06.18 | What in the fucking fuck | onionbubs
07.06.18 | oh really has it been done? who woulda thought | Deathconscious
07.06.18 | I can accept most of this, but Pale Communion being above Damnation...boy, im about to forget that opinions exist. | DarkSideOfLucca
07.06.18 | 2 being 2 and 9 being 9 is a travesty | Trifolium
07.06.18 | Yeah, I already thought that would raise a few brows, but hey, that's life. This is how I feel about them.
How would your rankings go? Because some people do agree with how I view them. | Trifolium
07.06.18 | And thanks Cygnus, they're all good so love your ranking as well! | Hawks
07.06.18 | βI can accept most of this, but Pale Communion being above Damnation...boy, im about to forget that opinions exist.β
Hahahahahahahaha Adolf | GUNGFUHAMMERFIST
07.06.18 | not bad | KingDweedle
07.06.18 | Ranking Opeth is admittedly quite hard. My Arms, Still Life and Blackwater Park are all tied for number 1 for me. | Trifolium
07.06.18 | It is hard, because they're all so very good! But that makes it fun, you can discuss about it. 1-9 are all a 4 or higher for me, so the ninth place for Still Life is not too shocking actually. | Trifolium
08.06.19 | I still agree with this broadly, although damnation has switched places with PC, and Watershed-Deliverance-Orchid might have shuffled around a bit.
Top 4 changes all the time but is still correct. Let's hope the new one won't become number 13... | Koris
11.25.21 | Nice to see MAYH at 1 | Trifolium
11.25.21 | Hahaha, didn't even notice you bumping this!
Yeah, if one of them is number one, it's My Arms for me. Top for are always changing among each other though. | TheSonomaDude
11.25.21 | 1βs production is my favorite of all Opeth albums tbh | Trifolium
11.25.21 | Yeah I agree. It's perfect. So organic and nicely rough. |
