08.30.18 | Bob Dylan - When the Ship Comes In
A song that made me more or less interested in country music. Not saying I am, but it did open my eyes that not everything in it is utter garbage.

08.30.18 | TTNG - Gibbon (Animals)
Math Rock
My brother showed me this song about 5 years ago. For the longest I only would listen to this song but eventually I checked the rest of the album and was blown away. Still one of my fav bands years later. Come to think of it, this was really the first indie album I ever heard and that's my favorite type of rock.

08.30.18 | Starflyer 59 - Fell in love at 22
A short and simple little track that nonetheless was one of the first indie tracks I ever became invested in. Such a longing, whimsical tone to this song that renders it both pleasant and painful to a degree.

08.30.18 | Common Holly - "If After All" (from Playing House)
The opener to her only album so far blew the doors off my expectations with her quick and beautiful descent into several subgenres of folk-rock, giving a buffet of sadgirl indie-folk stylings that satisfies my desire at any given moment.

I really don't know how you guys will take to a punk song, I'm guessing not well. But this is from a local band; there isn't anything special about this song besides it being just so much fun to listen to.

08.31.18 | Siouxsie and the Banshees from The Thorn EP
"Placebo Effect" [Goth new wave]
My gf was really into goth bands at a time and she loved Siouxsie. I picked up this EP at the record store because I thought it'd be fun to listen to it with her. I think I ended becoming a bigger Siouxsie fan than her later on and it started with this. The EP is four re-recorded tracks from their noisier post-punk days (late 70s), arranged with a string quartet and more reflective of the melodic sound they were exploring in the mid 80s. This is just my favourite of the bunch.

08.31.18 | X Japan - Unfinished(From Blue Blood)
(J-Rock/Ballad)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3pGVDTBeWY
I used to only live thrash metal and thrash metal only, until I heard Blue Blood for the first time. It still had the metal stuff I loved, but they also had some softer tunes that really got me into other genres as a whole. One of their best ballads from one of the biggest bands in Japan. |

08.31.18 | Kurt Travis-Overthinking (from Everything Is Beautiful)
Given his history in Dance Gavin Dance, many will presume the wacky or zany instrumentals will be present here. However, you will be surprised to hear a reincarnated sound boasting melodic indie rock infused melodies brimming with catchiness and rhythmic bass grooves that carry the track. Kurt's vocals embody a much more subdued and soulful approach here and lyrically he boasts a degree of maturity above of his work in Dance Gavin Dance. This is Kurt represented in his most emotive manner. |

08.31.18 | Arcane Roots - Slow Dance (From Heaven & Earth)
I was at a small alternative rock festival a few years back, just walking round the stages pretty drunk when one of my mates pulls me aside and says - 'dude you have to see this band'. The power these guys had on stage that day, for a band pulling in a crowd of less than a hundred had a huge impact on what I expected a live band to be able to do. They split up about an hour before I wrote this comment and I hope that they continue to blow people's minds who have never checked out their music before, like they did to me.

Wipers - Youth of America (Post-Punk)
Not so much the first band that got me into Post-Punk, more-so one of a collection of bands (and albums) which cemented my addiction to Post-Punk for about two years after listening to it. Youth of America always hinted more towards the political traditional 'punk' side of post-punk, yet the atmsophere is too mathematically cathartic that labelling it as anything other than post-punk would feel wrong. This song is so full of anger and passion, perhaps more-so than any other I've ever heard. 10 minutes risks a lot of people losing interest with this one, but if even one person gets as blown away by this as I always do then that's a win for sure.

09.02.18 | "When the Ship Comes In"
Not a fan of his voice and the music is as simplistic as many Bob Dylan songs. It makes you have to focus on the lyrics, which are good, yeah. I don't like when the lyrics are the only part of a song that matters though.

09.02.18 | Burnin Bush: This is some pretty good Soul, but it doesn't grab beyond being just great. 3.5
When the Ships Comes In: Always love some Dylan, great chord progression with a great voice, though not as impressive as his later work for me. 4.0

When the Ship Comes In - 3.5 - where-as I’m not as big a fan of Dylan as most here, I still find the majority of his stuff a delight
Gibbon - Had the acoustic version on by accident and thought it was missing something, the normal version rectifies this for the most part. The percussion here is great, such a fun lil track - 3.7
Fell In Love At 22 - a personal favourite of mine, such a perfectly nostalgic sounding song. Kinda melancholic, a whole lotta beautiful. I feel like these songs are easy to dismiss, esp. on these sorta lists but within the album this song is a gorgeous highlight - 5 |

I'll just sorta paraphrase what others have already mentioned which is that the outer casing of this track is much more intriguing than the core song in of itself. Unfortunately when math rock is delivered in this manner it doesn't particularly hold my interest.

09.04.18 | * Starflyer 59 -- "Fell in Love at 22" ~ [3.7] |
neekafat
09.04.18 | 1. Man this reminds me of all the Chicago my dad used to jam when I was a kid. Even without the nostalgia, this is pretty damn nice and smooth, though I guess I was hoping for something a little more punchy/funky to seal the deal - 3.6
2. Ouch. Yeah I like most of what I've heard from Dylan but this combines everything I don't of him: Nasally vocals, uninteresting guitar, and shrieking harmonicas. I'm sure if I got the time to dig into the lyrics they'd be good, but as it stands... engh. 3.1
3. This is pretty damn good. Not sure how into the guitars sprinkling around in what seems like random directions and the post-hardcore-y vocals, but it's a solid track with some great stuff going for it. 3.8 |

09.08.18 | To start with, Common Holly 3.2 - I feel like I’ve heard these vocals 1000 times, that’s not a criticism at all, it just blows me away how familiar they sound. The song itself is delightful on occasional but it doesn’t really do much for me.
I’ll get to the rest soon, my laptop is broken and my life is sorta spiralling out of control!!!!helpme!!! |

09.09.18 | thanks bruh, that’s the sort of encouragement I need |
BlazinBlitzer
09.09.18 | Kinoki Teikoku - "Boredom": I gotta say, this was pretty damn beautiful.
4.0/5
Ween - "Joppa Road": So middling. The bass is pretty good but it's far too tame and reserved.
3.0/5
Oval - "Alleswirdgrober": Kinda like a Russian Animal Collective. It sounds cool and I liked the mirrored intro/outro. It doesn't really progress, though, so it needed to be at least a little longer than just 2 and a half minutes.
3.2/5 |
RunOfTheMill
09.09.18 | If After All - This is a rollercoaster of a song, really never settles, and I absolutely love it. I'm acutely aware of the plastic flowers in the video tho lol 4.5/5
|
RunOfTheMill
09.09.18 | Taikutsu Shinogi (Boredom) - Drags a little, but that's the nature of shoegaze (for me, anyways), but this was overall really nice, really relaxing 3.6/5 |
ArsMoriendi
09.09.18 | "Alleswirdgrößer"
Boring vocals, but this music is interesting as hell. It's short too, so I'm not bored by the repetition. Novel stuff.
3.9/5 |

09.09.18 | @Aberf, would you mind commenting those ratings for my sake? Thanks |

Pheromone
09.09.18 | Kinoko Teikoku - this is really gorgeous all around, this has won me over to check the album 4.1
Ween - I could never get into ween and this doesn't really change that. I quite liked it at the beginning but it got repetitive fast. Sometimes I quite like repetition in these sorta floaty, poppier songs but it got kinda old with this one. Not offensively bad, just not very interesting. 2.4
Russian Circles - kinda like the opposite of that ween track in that it explores so many sounds in it's run time. instrumentally great, not always the most interesting, however. 3.3
Oval - crazy how this was released in 1993. really addictive sound, as soon as it finished I put it straight back on. love them first 30 seconds in particular. 3.8

09.09.18 | @Phero, leave your ratings red in the spreadsheet if they aren't in the list yet |

09.10.18 | * Dead Kennedys -- "Holiday in Cambodia" ~ [3.3] |
Aberf
09.10.18 | Date:
1 - 2.5, ehh.
2 - 3.5, nice.
3 - 3.5, cool.
4 - 3.0, not so cool. Especially when the band has much better songs.
5 - 3.6, slightly cooler.
6 - yeh
7 - 1.5, bangs.... my head to the wall.
8- 3.7, Doesn't seem to be as impressive as I thought it would. Still impressive. |
Aberf
09.10.18 | 9 - Is this what we call the JustJoe core? Fair enough. 3.3 |
Aberf
09.10.18 | Heck yeah, Neek. The entire album is astounding if you like that track. |
Egarran
09.10.18 | You are a master with words.
Also it's no shame to ask for help. |
Skoop
09.10.18 | Taikutsu Shinogi
It's ok. This group is much better imo when they are more aggresive
3.2
Joppa Road
I guess I'll never understand the infatuation with Ween.
2.2
Death Rides a Horse
Drums were fire. The rest was simply not very captivating.
3.0
Alleswirdgrößer
Pretty neat. Feels refreshingly unpredictable despite being so concise.
3.7
Holiday In Cambodia
One of those old time punk rawkers that really feels as though its making a statement and leaving an imprint.
4.0 |
ArsMoriendi
09.10.18 | Damn I didn't expect such low scores for what I considered a safe choice for Ween hmmm
Fuck it all, all future picks of mine will be off the deep end. |

09.10.18 | That's the ticket! |
ArsMoriendi
09.10.18 | "Holiday in Cambodia"
I heard the album this is from once in full. It was nice, but too many of the song sounded the same. I've known this, "Too Drunk to Fuck" and "Kill the Poor," for ages before that though. It reminds me of when I used to play Rock Band 2. The bass is good, his voice is unique in a way that works and the lyrics are clearly fantastic, but I don't know... as a whole, the guitar and drums aren't that engaging and I think I'd rather listen to Minutemen for punky political stuff because everything shines with them and stands out. God I love Minutemen. If you want a high score from me, pick a track by them haha.
3.6/5 |
Pheromone
09.10.18 | Dead Kennedys - a classic, but not a classic! I LOVE the bridge and LIKE the rest 3.4 |

09.12.18 | Oval- entrancing in a weird way, but i like it. 3.8
Dead Kennedys- I mean this is a classic idk what y'all are talking about with these low scores, what a riff, what a sound. 4.6 |
bgillesp
09.12.18 | lovetape- it was alright, interesting production at least, but when lyrics came in it went downhill both from lyrics and vocal quality 3.3 |

09.12.18 | * Spaceslug -- "Words Like Stones ~ [4.1] |

09.12.18 | Spaceslug- 2nd best slug themed metal band of the year, really liked the acoustic ending to this one, like a cheap Cobalt kinda. 3.9 |
ArsMoriendi
09.12.18 | "lovetape"
So far this is boring and mumbly... now it's just floating off into space. God, is this slog going to end? I might've been kinder IF THIS WASN'T OVER 15 MINUTES.
1.6/5

ArsMoriendi
09.12.18 | "Words Like Stones"
Interested guitar with scary growl vocals. The music's cool enough, but this genre doesn't grab me much.
3.1/5 |
ArsMoriendi
09.12.18 | "I-Like-To-Take-It-In-The-ArsMoriendi providing the steaming hot take on his inability to digest music that isn't ween"
I mean I've given Song of the Day choices of yours in the past higher scores (even some in the 3s) so nah |
Egarran
09.12.18 | Alleswirdgrößer - Singer isn't very good, but the music is intriguing. 3.4
Holiday in Cambodia - Not a fan of the genre, but good fun. 3.3
Lovetape - Sweet Jesus what is happening. There is something alluring about this, though. I'm thinking soundtrack during a father's drug-fueled killing spree in a cheap amusement park.
WTF there's still 8 minutes left. Well here's my rating so far. 3.5
Words Like Stones - Hold on, just let me finish rolling this.
Yeah, there we go. That's a sweeeet song, my dude. 4.1 |

09.13.18 | * Siouxsie & the Banshees -- "Placebo Effect" ~ [3.7] |
BlazinBlitzer
09.13.18 | Dead Kennedys - "Holiday in Cambodia": Amazing bass work and passionate punk music even with some expectedly cheesy lyrics.
4.0/5
Bilej Kluk - "lovetape": It sounds unfinished and has the quality of a 15-minute demo.
2.0/5
Spaceslug - "Words Like Stones": Yessss!!!! Amazing album. Though you had to pick one of the weakest tracks from there, didn't you? No "Spaced by One"? "Vialys Part II"? Oh well. I enjoy the album mention nonetheless.
3.3/5
Siouxsie and the Banshees - "Placebo Effect": It's pretty good, but that's really about it.

RunOfTheMill
09.14.18 | Joppa Road - uhhhh why'd everyone give this shit scores, perfectly breezy and pleasant pop song, the bass is pretty great too - 3.5/5
Death Rides a Horse - pretty sweet instrumental metal, the math-y style not quite my favourite but this was good listen - 3.7/5
Alleswirdgrößer - Too abstract for me, I don't see much appeal to this, tho there were some cool passages - 2.3/5 |
RunOfTheMill
09.14.18 | Holiday in Cambodia - one of the best punk songs as far as I'm concerned. The guitar work is fookin' awesome, love the lyrics, yep just amazing - 4.5/5 |

09.14.18 | "Unfinished"
Japanese ballad metal? The piano is entertaining enough, although the vocals are kind of gross.

09.15.18 | "Overthinking"

09.16.18 | X Japan - "Unfinished": Beautiful stuff. I remember hearing "Endless Rain" a while back and now I'm familiar with good ole Japanese rock ballads again.
4.1/5
Kurt Travis - "Overthinking": I was expecting this to be better for some reason. I like the guitar sound, but nothing else interested me.
3.2/5
Arcane Roots - "Slow Dance": Some of the beginning had some really awkward pop-like hooks that didn't sit well with the music, but man the rest of this is absolutely fantastic. Despite not caring for Melancholia Hymns, "Matter" and everything besides the first minute of this are reasons why I think about this band occasionally. Then they break up when they still had plenty of room for potential. Fuck, making music's hard, isn't it?
4.0/5 |
Metalrain
09.16.18 | Holiday In Cambodia: After I listened to this I listened to the whole album twice and learned the song on guitar. So yeah, this is pretty awesome. 4.7
Lovetape: This is like something that exists I guess. But I have better ways to waste 15 minutes. 2.0
Words Like Stone: This is pretty great, though it's not as memborable as I would like. 3.5
Placebo Effect: It's a jam. 3.8
Overthinking: It really doesn't stand out, just another indie song with a cool sounding guitar. 2.5
Slow Dance: Sounds really energetic and well written, would not expect that from this kind of music. 3.8 |

09.16.18 | updated so far. Some good stuff so far for sure. |
Egarran
09.16.18 | Sorry in advance.
Placebo Effect - Not a fan of that 80s production. It sounds so roomy and dead, like a deserted factory where some of the neon lights still work.
Basically I don't get this song. 3.1
Unfinished - Also rubs me the wrong way. Now I feel I'm at a dinner show in a mid-range Tokyo restaurant. 3
Overthinking - Don't know the dude, and some context might support this song. But right now I don't feel anything. 2.5
Slow Dance - Oh yeah, it must have been sweet to stumble upon a concert with these guys. Great first impression. 4 |
ArsMoriendi
09.16.18 | "Slow Dance"
This sounds like it could've been a radio pop rock hit in the early 2000s if it were shorter. I'll never understand the appeal for this kind of vocals. I really don't like this one. I'm sorry. :(

09.16.18 | I'm gonna toss in a second song in case repeats are needed:
The Blue Nile - "Let's Go Out Tonight" (from Hats) [80s AC/dream pop]
I just heard this song for the first time last night and my jaw dropped at how beautiful it is. I understand some may see an "80s AC" label as a red flag, but just put aside any preconceived notions of what an 80s ballad is, close your eyes, and listen.

Aberf
09.18.18 | 10th > "Holiday in Cambodia", sick stuffs! The guitar tone and the progression made me creamed. 3.9
11th > "Lovetape", stepping out of comfort zone is my thing about music. But for me, to take it away all of the comfort isn't the way to go. 2.5
12th > "Words Like Stones", quite epic but doesn't really catch my attention that much. 3.5
13th > "Placebo Effect", The goth is real in this one. Time to wear all black. 4.0
14th > "UNFINISHED", X-Japan's The Art of Life is one of the best track ever. I don't find much of the rest of their discography to be that good though. 3.7
15th > "Overthinking", this is cool and all that. Okay at its finest. 3.2
16th > "Slow Dance", This song is a fake news. I didn't do slow dance. I danced pretty hard. 4.1
17th> "Not Yet", I don't know what to say tbh. 3.7 |

09.19.18 | "Youth of America"
Wow 10 mins of post punk hmmm? So far I like the vocals and the music though, so it's a good sign. Cool distorted solo. Yeah this overstays its visit a bit, but it's still awesome honestly. A 4+ score would've happened if this was like 6 mins.

School and traveling has been kicking my ass.
8. Death Rides a Horse- Russian Circles - 3.5: Good band, good song
9. Alleswirdgrößer - Oval - 3 Well alright then
11. lovetape- Bilej Kluk - 1.7 : sorry man, I was fine until about halfway through, just do not like this
12. Words Like Stones - Spaceslug- 4 : Yes.
13. Placebo effect - Siouxsie and the Banshees- 4: Siouxsie Sioux is just the greatest.
14. Unfinished - X Japan- 3.2: I could never get behind X Japan's vocals, the music itself is pretty though; I can't help but think I'd like this more as an instrumental.
15. Overthinking - Kurt Travis - 3.4: I feel like this track is a grower
16. Slow Dance - Arcane Roots-3.7 I really don't care for alt-metal or whatever, but this is pretty solid
17. Not yet - The Veils- 3.8 I can definitely see myself coming back to this

09.20.18 | 8: This was really good, but I felt like I was missing something or that there was something missing from the song itself. 3.9
9: Ethereal and pretty nifty track. Wish there was more going on to grab my attention but I really liked it nevertheless. 3.7
10: Classic track through and through. 4.4
11: Yeah there’s a lot of really interesting stuff going on here, but it isn’t really a song. It’s more of a incoherent artpiece. It might be really moving and exciting if, to quote Ars, “THIS WASN'T OVER 15 MINUTES.” Also guys just so you know this track is the entire release so feel free to 1 it if you want. Also that ending was abysmal. 2.0 |

Belong - Red Velvet or Nothing (from October Language)
This was the song that really opened up the wonders of this sort of Drone music. I have always loved ambient music, but always in a more traditional, less noisy sense. I remember hearing this on a coach journey in the middle of the night and it seriously got to me so naturally I went home and did some proper research and that led me to bands and guys like Yellow Swans and Taylor Duepree who I love now |

Ought - These 3 Things (melo post-punk/new wave)
Among things that are regarded as 'first', be it encounters with the style, band, album etc., one could also suggest that a first 5 of the year, which contained 3 (for me at least) stands on the same piedestal as others frontrunners and introducers. These 3 Things is a beautifully simple song that gets you on the repeat. It might not click at first, but give it a shot and it will hit home, I -not promise- suppose.

If there was an artist besides X-Japan that got me more into music, then it was Devin Townsend. This song is just really fun to listen too, it always lifts me up after a bad day. |

Pixies - Vamos (from Surfer Rosa) [noise rock]
When I was 15, I first heard this song and it immediately sparked my interest in Pixies and noise rock. While it isn't my favorite by them, my love from noise rock (and a bit of noise pop?) All goes back to this one. And maybe In Utero...

09.21.18 | 12: Yeah this is really cool you win. 4.1
13: This is so fucking cool, I might have to check the rest of this out. Strings and female vocals are two of my greatest weaknesses. 4.3
14: Very nice. It’s a bit cheesy but I love the instrumentation and how emotional it is despite being over the top. 4.2
15: This seemed a bit straightforward but it played into a genre I enjoy and I could see it growing on me in the future. 4.1
16: Man this is a good string of tracks. I wasn’t sold on this at first because the vocals are a bit run-of-the-mill, but the way the instrumentation kept growing was exciting and really neat, so what the fuck, why not? 4.2
17: Wow yeah okay I am completely helpless against this song. 4.4
18: I’m not super big into punk music but this was pretty damn cool. Not sure if I was on board for everything they did, but it seemed like something definitely work digging into a bit deeper. 4.0
19: I obviously just need to get into trip-hop more because this shit is just entrancing. 4.3
20: Yeah this is just a really damn great track. 4.1 |

09.21.18 | "Sovereign Circle"
Well my streak of not hating on stuff has been broken. I was going 3 days strong too! Whiny nu-prog grossness. I blame Rush. Sure Rush themselves are a fine band, but they taught young people that you could make a prog album with screechy yelps for vocals. God I can barely focus on the music, the vocals are so nasty, like milk a week after its expiration date. +1 for the feedback at the end. Feedback is good.

09.25.18 | I'm back! College is a timesapper, so I gotta dedicate some time into that but also some other list ideas I've been getting together. Anways:
Veils - "Not Yet": Damn! Gnarly vocals with some soulful twang and keys. I might be coming back to this one.
4.3/5
Wipers - "Youth of America": I like it enough. There's a strong punk aesthetic that I enjoy in here but you start to question whether it was worth 10 minutes or not.
3.4/5
Gasoline - "Obscure Means": Had a few moments where I thought this was gonna be spectacular. Then it got shallow. Real shallow, real fast.
2.8/5
Circa Survive - "Sovereign Circle" A perfect 3, like everything they've ever made.
3.0/5
Brian Eno - "Spider and I": It was 4 minutes long and it still felt halfway like a teaser, especially with the prolonged ending. Nonetheless excellent with stunning production value.
4.2/5
Deep Purple - "The Shield": I refuse to believe this is Deep Purple. If it is, could it be Ian Paice's best performance? Percussion was pretty sweet.
3.6/5
AL-90 - "Experienced Girl": I'm sorry, but it's just way too outdated and too simple for its premise. Couldn't get into it at all.
2.3/5
Algiers - "Walk Like a Panther": It's decent. I like the heavy static on the vocals and the lyrics are kinda well written. Though the mixing needed to be a little better for this to become great. The loud electronic-trappy instrumentation added with the already expressive vocals often was a little too much.
3.2/5
Ought - "These 3 Things": Sounds really 80's. Pretty good stuff.
3.5/5 |
Egarran
09.25.18 | Alright BG I'm not sure why you were unable to ctrl+f these things, so I copy/pasted all my comments here. I'd sure like to know what went wrong on your end.
Not Yet - True, this builds really well. 3.7
Youth Of America - Really nice guitar, but ugh. I'm so not a punk guy. The drums and vocals turned this off at 4:14. 2.9.
Obscure Means - I liked it, it lacked something to make it special, but I liked it. 3.4
Sovereign Circle - 3.4. This could be the soundtrack to a football compilation. Nah it's pretty good, I just feel I've heard this in hundreds of variations.

09.27.18 | "These 3 Things"
So, post punk? Good bass, but this sounds like a Cure cover band.
3.2/5
"Life"
Eh, just sounds like 2000s alternative rock honestly. Kind of plain honestly. Sounds like it belongs on the soundtrack to some action movie. I was expecting more since Townshend is known for being a cool experimenter and Casualties of Cool is great, but this is just bland honestly.
2.6/5 |
Minushuman24
09.27.18 | Life does sounds like an Alt Rock track, absolutely. I didn't even know Devin did stuff like that, but I really liked it. |

3 minutes in and barely anything has happened. So, this is post rock, right? Man this is doing absolutely nothing for me. Wait the lyircs come in at almost 7 minutes? BlazinBlitzer
09.29.18 | It's been a crazy week for me, but the remaining line-up of songs was pretty great, so I can't complain.
Devin Townsend - "Life": It's been forever since I heard this album. I believe there were much better tracks on there than this, but this was nonetheless really solid.
3.8/5
Shojoskip - "Kamome": Excellent post-rock goodness. The guitar has a really pretty sound to it that I can't get over. The second half doesn't disappoint either.
4.2/5
IDLES - "Never Fight a Man with a Perm": Good choice! It's my second favorite from that record. Love the intensity on here.
4.0/5
The Blue Nile - "Let's Go Out Tonight": This had a chance to be a classic but it mostly dragged as it went on. The production on here is absolutely fantastic and way ahead of its time, though, so I'll give it some merit on that.
3.7/5
Color TV - "Meat Wagon": Sounds exactly like every lo-fi punk track I've ever heard.
2.7/5 |

09.29.18 | I'll make October's list tomorrow and I think I know what the theme's gonna be:

09.29.18 | "Never Fight A Man With A Perm"
This sounds like dance club music mixed with punk? Dance punk? I don't really feel this one at all. It's in theory decent. Makes me wanna get drunk and dance a bit I guess.
3/5
"Let's Go Out Tonight"
So far this is fairly soothing and nice. This seems really genuine actually and effectively emotional. Also people who see "an 80s AC label" as a red flag need to get off their edgy chairs. The guitar tone is nice and it makes me wanna go listen to "Downtown Train" by Tom Waits, so I'm gonna go do that now.

These 3 Things: Lovely track.
4.2
Kamome: Some solid things on here, but it's kinda forgetable.

Never Fight a Man With a Perm: Some interesting punk, doesn't really grab me but it's still great.

20 - "Sovereign Circle" - I don't get the appeal with these kind of vocals, the instrumentation was nice enough but not enough to grasp my attention - 2/5
21 - "Spider and I" - it's nice and breezy, but it's over before I can really get invested in it... must sound great with other tracks built around it - 3.3/5
22 - "The Shield" - This is soooo different from their other stuff. I'm really partial to Rod Evans's vocals because of Captain Beyond, and this is overall pretty sweet. The piano and rhythm adds a lot to the sound of it all, great stuff - 3.9/5
23 - bandcamp blocked at work, rip
24 - "Walk Like a Panther" - i don't really like the production, probably because it reminds me a lot that Rag'n'Bone Man song that all the alt radio stations were hardcore pushing last year and i got so sick of it - 2.3/5
25 - "These 3 Things" - I like the sound, drums and bass are a real driving part of the song which is v cool, wish there was a little more, vox are a little jarring but kinda charming all the same. Not bad - 3.5/5 |
RunOfTheMill
10.02.18 | 26 - "Life" - It's Devy. One of my least favourite off Ocean Machine, but an insta-4. - 4/5
27 - "Kamome" - I can get behind this abecore, I like the change in pace in the song. - 4/5
28 - "Never Fight a Man with a Perm" - the lyrics piss me off, I guess that's the point, so kudos to these guys - 3.5/5
29 - "Let's Go Out Tonight" - Blissful and jazzy, a great slow jam, love the tones, mm yes - 4.1/5
30 - "Meat Wagon" - good energetic punk song, the guitar is everything here and that's probs a good thing - 3.7/5 |
