Prog No One Told Me About
What am I supposed to do? Find my own music?! Like a savage?
Also any recs (Prog or Progless) are nice |
1 | | Cast (MEX) Power and Outcome
A beautiful display of technical prowess with guitars strings and keyboards from Mexico. Despite the bands 40 year career, this seems to be their first album to get any widespread success as the rest of their discog is harder to find. Only real complaint is I wish they had more vocals.
Recommended: Details, Circle Spins / Details, Start Again |
2 | | Barock Project Detachment
While a good number 70s worship bands can sound tacky or simply fail to create any lasting impression, this Italian group makes an older sound feel new again.
Recommended Tracks: Rescue Me / Happy to See You |
3 | | That Joe Payne What is the World Coming To
The former Enid frontman's solo project. If you liked Invicta / Dust you should definitely check him out. He also did a collab with ZIO and Hayley Griffiths which was absolutely fantastic. |
4 | | Deluge Grander Oceanarium
Fuck these arrangements are so good. This is a prime example of what symphonic bands should aim for. I just really wish this had some vocals. |
5 | | Wobbler From Silence to Somewhere
[2] |
6 | | Enochian Theory Life… And All It Entails
While I'm not super big on the vocals here, this band incorporates orchestral arrangements with modern metal in a way you don't see many bands doing these days. |
7 | | Frequency Drift Letters to Maro
While I generally prefer grandiose arrangements over enriched melodies, Frequency Drift manage to create very immersive and well composed prog that still manages to hit its mark after 7 albums in just 10 years. If you miss The Gathering at their prime this band will not let you down. |
8 | | Alegría Rampante Se Nos Fue La Mano
(This artist may under Eduardo Alegría depending on where you look) While this may not be the proggiest of prog I'm gonna add it here anyway. Eduardo Alegría, of the now defunct Superaquello, heads his own project which balances complex musical arrangements and more accessible alt rock jams. Alegría's writing is also much more personal than most on this list, dealing with own experiences living on Puerto Rico, queerness, and addiction. |
9 | | Oak (NOR) False Memory Archive
While Oak's latest record may not do much in terms of pushing boundaries, the band still writes some very melodic and melancholic tunes that are perfect to listen to when you wanna just cool down. |
10 | | Osaka Punch Death Monster Super Squad
You're absolutely right. This record is pretty whacky. Not unlike bands like Mr. Bungle and 6:33 Osaka Punch delivers some of the grooviest grooves I've heard in prog in a while. If you just want some fun music to listen to then this is definitely worth a shot. |
