| Last Hurrah
Making one last trek to ye olde record store before the end of the year, to round off some thangs that are either new or that I've slept on so far. Thankfully, December itself's pretty sparse (aside from those bastards in Hammock, procrastinating their gorgeous music to the last possible minute), so shouldn't need to do much self-centered shopping after this haul--of which I'll realistically only leave with a third, maybe. | 1 | | Advance Base Animal Companionship | 2 | | Antarctigo Vespucci Love in the Time of E-Mail
Honestly wasn't floored by this for the first couple of listens, no doubt because I felt like it didn't really live up to the cleverness I'd been anticipating, but it's grown on me since. Will largely come down to whether I can find it for a decent price. | 3 | | Barenaked Ladies Stunt
YITSBEEN...20 years, apparently! Which, first off, Jesus, I feel old. But also, and under the heavy and wholly admitted influence of nostalgia, this album's a keeper, and my copy from back in the day is currently sitting on my parents' CD shelf, surely scratched to shit. | 4 | | Basement Beside Myself | 5 | | Bauhaus The Bela Session
Gift for the girlfriend, hoping I can snag this bad boy on vinyl. | 6 | | Bosse-de-Nage Further Still
Surprised this didn't get more hype around these parts, but then again, I sort of lost it in the shuffle myself, so I'm not really one to talk. | 7 | | Boygenius Boygenius | 8 | | Chevelle 12 Bloody Spies: B-Sides and Rarities
A little torn on this one, since A) I'm pretty sure I have at least 90% of these songs on their respective albums (including, most painfully, the deluxe edition of The North Corridor, which was valued for about $5 more than the regular version for the one extra song) and B) it doesn't even have the digital bonus tracks from Wonder What's Next, which is also a little frustrating. But still, I'm a sucker for Chevelle, so hoping to find a used copy on the super-cheap. | 9 | | City and Colour Guide Me Back Home
Had no idea this was even coming out until earlier this week. Live albums are always a toss-up, but City and Colour has one far-better-than-average one under its belt so far, so optimistic about this wider-ranging spiritual successor. | 10 | | Exit North Book of Romance and Dust
Don't know that I like my chances of finding a hard copy of this, but we live in hope! | 11 | | Tim Hecker Konoyo | 12 | | How to Dress Well The Anteroom | 13 | | Gregory Alan Isakov Evening Machines
Another terribly underrated artist. Have been jamming his collaboration with the Colorado Symphony quite a bit lately, just some beautiful, deceptively layered songwriting. | 14 | | The Joy Formidable AAARTH | 15 | | Adrianne Lenker abysskiss
Gift for a friend who's a big, uh, Big Thief fan, though one I'll no doubt try to rip either before or after passing it off. | 16 | | Low Double Negative | 17 | | Metallica ...And Justice for All
Another anniversary celebration, from the Masters (see what I did there...) of turning a profit. Still, there's arguably not a more deserving album in their discography, and like poor ol' #3, my own copy got worn to grit many moon ago, so hey, why not do my part to help fund Lars's newest house or Kirk's hairdresser expenses? | 18 | | John Nolan Abendigo
Another one I'm not too optimistic about actually finding; nonetheless, stranger thangs have happened, so holding out hope I can scoop up this vinyl. | 19 | | nothing, nowhere. ruiner
Ditto, just sub 'CD' for 'vinyl.' | 20 | | Anderson .Paak Oxnard | 21 | | Pile Odds and Ends
Like live albums, b-side compilations are always, by nature, scattershot (unless you know what you're in for, a la Chevelle); however, if anyone's all-but-guaranteed to produce consistency even in this atypical format, it's my belatedly discovered alt-post-hardcore crush Pile. | 22 | | The Smashing Pumpkins Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1
Definitely getting a veeeerrrry mixed bag of ratings and reviews, but I'll readily confess I'm too far gone into the thrall of Corgan--and too much of a completist, to boot--to not at least check this out. Oceania's still fire. | 23 | | SUMAC Love In Shadow | 24 | | Earl Sweatshirt Some Rap Songs
This might be partly attributable to my own ignorance, but I definitely dig Earl's anti-Kanye approach to in terms of, rather than hyping-and-delaying albums ad nauseum (looking at you, Yandhi), basically just announcing and dropping this in the span of, like, two weeks. Or seemed like it to me. Vince Staples still has him beat, but whatevs. | 25 | | Touche Amore 10 Years / 1000 Shows - Live At Regent Theater | 26 | | Unearth Extinction(s) | 27 | | Hammock Universalis
Honorary inclusion, as I don't believe it's formally slated to drop until next Friday. But that's what Sanny Claus is for, amiright? | |

11.29.18 | Good call on 5 (if it's going for a good price) | thecheatisnotdead
11.29.18 | Yeah, if there's one gripe I have with my local spot, it's that there's no real rhyme or reason to their pricing. Sometimes new vinyl is $15, other times $25+, and that's not even getting into double-LPs. So we shall see. |
