The Density Parameter
Yet another killer mesarthim release, this album has no true masterpiece like most of the albums after it in this list, but there aren't any crap songs either. The first 2 tracks are my favorites. The ending of collapse is insane! | | 9 |  | Summoning
With Doom We Come
Much like the next band on the list, summoning can do almost no wrong in my books. While being their worst album since their 1995 debut, it still made this list :) SIlvertine is one of my favorite songs of the year, and the title track is incredible too. The shitty production (note: i like low fi, but not shitty. The mix is just awful.), the familiarity with their last album and some weaker tracks really do hurt this album though. | | 8 |  | Dead Can Dance

a beautiful world album, dead can dance can do no wrong in my books. It is definitely weaker for them though, lots of buildum and calm stuff with no real climaxes. the mountain is my fav track, with the invocation being close behind. An extremely tight album with incredible production and flow. I made it 7 because of its shortness and because it doesn't affect me emotionally or anything. Freee, fire and kids see ghosts are amazing songs. | | 6 |  | Daughters
You Won't Get What You Want
An extremely strong album filled with insane music and great production. There some weaknesses here and there and it doesn't really hit me in an extremely powerful way (be it emotion, beauty, etc) but musically it is extremely good. Echoes From Eta Carinae
This album is definitely not for everyone. It is a 52 minute long cosmic black metal track, full of slow moving riffs bathed in reverb, long winded ambient sections, and howling vocals. The first half of the track is just decent, but the back half, starting with a beautiful ambient section, just blows me away. Dead Magic
The last 2 tracks of the album are a bit weaker, which leads it to being below the next albums. The first 3, however, are incredible. Ugly and vengeful is easily my song of the year. Dead magic is a haunting, insane and powerful album. | | 3 |  | TesseracT
Sonder
A very strong album, but there aren't any strong enough tracks to make me put this above vector. Short, sweet and beautiful, i love the sound design on this album. Dan's vocals are great, and the songwriting is very solid. The record also flows very well. | | 2 |  | Haken
Vector
Haken going out of their way to be heavy, and it works. This spot may change, but for now im keeping it where it is. Nil by mouth is badass, and veil is one of the best songs they have ever done. The only weak-ish track here is host, but even that is still pretty good. | | 1 |  | Orphaned Land
Unsung Prophets and Dead Messiahs
easily my favorite album of the year, This album is powerful, emotional and carries a very good story. There are almost no weak moments, and plenty of strong ones. All knowing eye has the best solo i have heard in recent memory, and the climax of only the dead have seen the end of war always gives me goosebumps. There was no close contender for album of the year. | |
