Albums I Have Obsessed Over At Some Point In My Life

basically this is a list of albums that I have not just dug but worn out, played till death and listened to so much it's beyond retarded. these are albums i can dream up in my sleep. cite every lyric of. some of these coincided with certain things in my life.
1Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here

This is the ultimate loneliness album. I obsessed over this thing a lot in my last year of high school (one of the worst years of my life I guess. The worst years sadly don't have much of a soundtrack.) This is an album that means a lot to me everytime I hear it; it is just one of those records. It's also my alltime favourite CD. I rarely listen to it these days, mainly because I listen to lots of other stuff, but this is amazing and will always be.
2Queensryche
Operation: Mindcrime

There was a period in my life I was really into concept records. This is the ultimate concept record, and I can't count the plays I have from this album. I Don't Believe In Love is such an amazing record.
3A Perfect Circle
Thirteenth Step

This album deals with addiction. Considering I have addictive tendencies a lot it is no surprise that when I was cut off from them, this is the record I turned to. The Noose, The Outsider, Pet, it almost burns to listen to these songs for me but it's such an amazing record that I'll forgive the band the filler and the nostalgia.
4Sonata Arctica
Reckoning Night

Staying up late to read organic chemistry textbooks, this was the soundtrack to that. Don't Say a Word is one of my favourite alltime songs.
5Linkin Park
Hybrid Theory

Who wasn't addicted to this in middle/high school? Can't say I still like it but it earns a spot for that reason
6Nightwish
Once

Yeah, a list of digs without Nightwish is not a dig list if it's me that's concerned. I could have picked any Nightwish album, since I know them all by heart, but let's keep shit in order here.
7Metallica
Master of Puppets

Gateway metal album. See Linkin Park, except this is marginally better.
8 Katatonia
Tonight's Decision

The first time I listened to this was around midnight with my bedlight on reading the lyrics. I wasn't particularly happy that day either. I guess you know why it makes the cut.
9Dream Theater
Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory

Last year of high school dig, brilliant album. Another gateway record for me into prog music. Dream Theater (and MP's band namedropping) led me to check out loads of bands later on. It took a while to get into this, but this is one of the best records in history.
10Anathema
Judgement

The day I got this record I played One Last Goodbye 50x in a row. That's how much I dig this album. Or that song. Anathema are very cathartic for me, and I mostly turn to Anathema in a shit mood (same with Katatonia.) They are basically my let out everything bands. Love this band and album.
11Iced Earth
Burnt Offerings

A early power metal purchase. Got me into the band and Matt Barlow's wicked vocals. I have since listened to everything except the debut in full but nothing still compares to this one. It's so much darker and aggressive than most power metal, and its non-cheesy balls out attitude is what makes me love this.
12Porcupine Tree
Fear of a Blank Planet

I have always thought humanity has the wrong priorities. This album confirms that fear to the fullest.
13Apocalyptica
Apocalyptica

This is some amazing cello metal shit. I switch on and off with this band but this record is the one I always tend to come back to. Ruska is madly depressing and Betrayal is just one of my favourite bits of music ever.
14Slayer
Reign In Blood

Hated this band, listened to this album and didnt stop playing it for like a week.
15Nevermore
The Politics of Ecstasy

Warrell Dane sold me doom and gloom. I bought into it like with every Nevermore album. It's a toss up which is better: this or This Godless Endeavor. I got this one first so I guess it's this that counts.
16Radiohead
OK Computer

I'm a sucker for dark atmospheres. Even if this record isn't really heavy, it's moody, and that's what I love
17Alice in Chains
Dirt

The dark, wrathful monotony and the offkilter tempos make this vicious drug-related album one love of my life. I never have been a junkie, but like with APC, I relate to addiction stories.
18System of a Down
Hypnotize

High school favourite. Except these guys have musical integrity. Serj is bizarre. Toss up between this and the other SoaD albums, but I think I have heard this one in full the most.
19In Flames
Clayman

Gateway metal record for me. Bullet Ride and Only For the Weak stand out for me.
20Relient K
Mmhmm

'Cause I had a pop punk phase a couple years back before I got into metal.
