Tool album ranked

Remember that this list is just my opinion and that I don’t Pushit(see what I did there) on you. Also my english may not be perfect because it’s not my first language. Enjoy!

Undertow

Okay, this album isn’t bad, but it’s kinda forgettable. At least it’s the only tool album that is forgettable. But don’t get me wrong, it’s a good album, just not as good as all the other fantastic albums tool has put out. Some songs on here are good like intolerance who has really great riffs, sober who has a great bassline that drives the song and an haunting chorus. Also, prison sex is very disturbing but in a good way and bottom has a really good and proggy riff(even though the spoken word part in the middle is too long) . So… maybe you start to see the biggest issue I have with this album. I find it really frontloaded. My favorite song are the first 4 and after those songs, the album never picks up again. Some of the other songs have their moments, but as a whole they are too long and not really developed. Anyway, not a bad album but it just doesn’t compare to their future work.
Favorite: intolerance, sober, prison sex, bottom
Least favorite: flood, disgustipated, crawl away

10,000 Days

It starts out with the second best tool opener: vicarious(the best opener being the grudge). It has a really great chorus and a lot of brutal riffs. After that we have songs like jambi or the pot that are similar to vicarious but they still have very unique moments on them. Also, there is the wings for marie/10 000 days duo. I tend to dislike really long and repetitive songs so on paper those songs shouldn’t work for me… so why do I like them? Well, firstly because they are both very haunting when you know the meaning behind them but also because they both have awesome payoffs at the end of each song. After some fillers there is another long song: rosetta stoned. This song is AWESOME! I can’t explain how this track rules. So if you haven’t listen to it, give it a try. Finally we finish the album with the beautiful right in two. In the end, awesome album
Favorite: rosetta, vicarious, right in two, the pot, jambi
Least favorite: intension, viginti tres

Lateralus

I see on a lot of list this album at number 1, and it totally deserves it. It’s objectively their best. Proggy and brutal songs, good lyrics, and overall very good. BUT, I have a problem with just ONE thing: the holy trinity(disposition-reflection-triad). Those songs are TOO LONG. I mean disposition is alright, the harmonic bass at the start is good and it's only 4 minute long. But man, REFLECTION IS SO HARD to get through! This song lasts 11 minute and it’s so repetitive. I mean, I complained about the czar (crack the skye-Mastodon) that was too long, but at least this song as multiple riffs and melodies. Reflections a 1 riff that is repeated almost throughout the whole song!!! And triad is 8 minute of almost the same riff too. But apart from that the album is a masterpiece 10/10. It’s just that after lateralus(the song) finishes, I just want to stop the album.
Favorite: almost the whole album
Least favorite: the holy trinity, mantra, Faaip de Oiad

Ænima

While some of the songs aren’t as good as the ones on lateralus, this album is the most consistently good. I mean every song on here is at least good(ok maybe 1 or 2 fillers is forgettable but every tool album as at least 2 bad fillers.) stinkfist and hooker with a penis seem to be upgraded versions of opiate songs. Also, most of the songs(especially H, 46&2, eulogy) have amazing bassline. I’m a bassist and this album is my favorite to jam to. We also have proggy and long songs like pushit and third eye. Those songs are perfect examples (with rosetta stoned) of excellent long tool songs. Unlike reflection these songs have multiple engaging riffs and standout moments. Even if there is some bad fillers(cesaro summability and ions), the majority of the fillers are great. Some of them are actually kind of funny. Finally, a must own for every prog metal fans.
Favorite: the whole album (except least fav)
Least favorite: ions, cesaro summability
