05.15.19 | The Uncertainty Principle are like if Tool was a jam band from India. I dig it. |

05.15.19 | There can only be one. |
heck
05.15.19 | later Katatonia has some major Tool vibes, especially on The Great Cold Distance. kinda like a mix of Tool and APC really |
SitarHero
05.15.19 | "The Uncertainty Principle are like if Tool was a jam band from India. I dig it."
Ha! Yeah, every rock/metal band in India used to go through a Tool phase. These guys were pretty promising when they first started writing originals like 7-8 years ago, but they got derailed by life. The album itself was more or less an afterthought and they're defunct now as far as I know. |
Firedust
05.15.19 | I don’t like Tool at all but Soen fucking rips. [2]
Agreed hard. Love Soen, Tool bores me to tears. One of the most overrated bands on the planet. |
wojodta
05.15.19 | Isis - Panopticon reminds me a lot of Tool |
Larkinhill

MC Hammer
Thorr's Hammer

JDubb
05.15.19 | Props for Nos. 1, 2, and 4. But much props for Stavesacre - Absolutes...I agree that Mark Solomon's voice has a unique, Tool-like quality, and this album, Friction, and Against the Silence were excellent. Tesseract's album Altered State is their most Tool-like. |
JDubb
05.15.19 | Would add a few key bands to this list: Peach (UK); Suns of the Tundra; 10 Years; and Wheel. |
hexfix93
05.15.19 | Katatonia (check The Great Cold Distance and The Fall of Hearts). Well, most of their later albums at least have a strong APC vibe, with some leaning towards Tool. |
ArsMoriendi
05.15.19 | "Like Tool but Radio Rock."
Isn't Tool radio rock? |
DamnVanne
05.15.19 | Eden Circus’s one album is pretty great and sounds a lot like Tool |
BookoftheFallen
05.15.19 | caligula's horse |
hexfix93
05.16.19 | "Isn't Tool radio rock?"
How is Tool radio rock? I mean yeah a few singles could definitely be (and are, I think) played on the radio, like Schism, The Pot, or Vicarious. But I still wouldn't call any of those "radio rock". They certainly don't aim for that kind of sound in general and I highly doubt most people are gonna wanna hear something like Reflection or Lateralus on the radio lol |
PyramidNoise
05.16.19 | I forgot about Wheel, listened to an EP of theirs a while back, was good stuff. |
kalkwiese
05.16.19 | "TesseracT

05.16.19 | Hacride - Back to Where You’ve Never Been
hard aenima vibes |
PyramidNoise
05.16.19 | Hacride is an interesting one. Love that album and never thought of it as Tool-like. |
Relinquished
05.16.19 | I hear it in the rhythms, pattern phrasings, and vocal effects. doesn't have to be outright influenced by them like Earshot's approach. |
PyramidNoise
05.16.19 | Yeah I can see that. Like Tool but more death metal perhaps? |
Relinquished
05.16.19 | pretty much |
FurtherDown
05.16.19 | I like Tool but I have to say that Eidolon by Rishloo beats them hard. Much more raw energy and emotions.
Also I don't get comparisons between Karnivool and Tool, to me they are much more classic prog rock/metal and they give me completely different feel. |
kalkwiese
05.16.19 | I also never saw Caligula's Horse as Tool-like, but I guess the breathyness of the vocal reminds people of Maynard or something like that |
Relinquished
05.16.19 | tool did the prog rock/metal thing too so what are you saying |
kalkwiese
05.16.19 | Holy shit Opeth sound like Tool and I never noticed rip |
Relinquished
05.16.19 | if only opeth heard the melvins |
SitarHero
05.16.19 | Caligula's Horse is way not Tool-like. What the hell even?
And despite TesseracT's somewhat Tool-ish-ness Acle Kahney actually claims they're more inspired by APC. |
PyramidNoise
05.16.19 | idk, I can hear Tool in some of Caligula's Horses stuff. Especially on Bloom. |
kalkwiese
05.16.19 | Marigold has vocals kinda similar to Maynards. And The Tide, The Thief & River's End too |
SitarHero
05.16.19 | Hmmmm, maybe I should go back and re-listen. |
kalkwiese
05.16.19 | It's a small thing imo. Tesseract is was more tool-ish |
gagnonov
05.16.19 | Thantifaxath - Sacred White Noise
like Tool but more existential dread |
Relinquished
05.16.19 | ok now that one is a stretch |

05.16.19 | Check out Boil’s album A New Decay, Ceterum, any album by Russian Circles, Samadhi Band, Downer. |
JDubb
05.16.19 | Arkane’s later albums may be more Toolish than Caligula’s Horse. Same vocalist. |
gagnonov
05.17.19 | GZA - Liquid Swords

PyramidNoise
05.17.19 | I always thought that Filosofem sounded like Tool but with more racism. |
kalkwiese
05.17.19 | The last few Leprous records always reminded me of Tool, but with more Radiohead |

09.09.19 | I know I'm bumping an old thread but I'm surprised nobody mentioned earthtone9 on here. |
