08.13.19 | Every album bar 8 & 9 are hard 4's and above. |
Asdfp277
08.13.19 | utopia is good too |
BigPleb
08.13.19 | It is yeah, just never feel the desire to listen to it like her other records. |
Asdfp277
08.13.19 | it's the post-rock of bjork albums |
Asdfp277
08.13.19 | which is the dark souls of rock subgenres xD |
BigPleb
08.13.19 | It's really out there yeah, even for her. |
Gyromania
08.13.19 | 6 is 9 |
BigPleb
08.13.19 | @Gyro It's a very bleak record, could see how some people would be turned away. |
Gyromania
08.13.19 | i'm more so turned away by how mind numbingly boring it is |
BigPleb
08.13.19 | Haha fair enough.
Volta is kinda like that for me, just seems too scatterbrained for it's own good and somehow becomes dull. |
Asdfp277
08.13.19 | bleak af [2], love it |
Pon
08.13.19 | 2 is 1 pleb what the heck are you doing |
Asdfp277
08.13.19 | 1 being 1 is actually the patrician answer |
Rik VII
08.13.19 | Not too far from my own. 2 is my undisputed favorite. As amazing as Homogenic is (one of the best albums ever as well), it doesn't come close to Vespertine's magical atmosphere. 5 is also very underrated, nice to not see it near bottom (it's actually my no. 3, but that changes every now and then). I also prefer Debut over Post. |
BigPleb
08.13.19 | Vespertine has a magical atmosphere yeah, I just think Homogenic has one of the best album flows ever and there's not a single dip in quality throughout. |
brandontaylor
08.13.19 | good list but vulnicura is too low, you got 1 and 2 right but its #3 for me. |
JohnnyoftheWell
08.13.19 | This is basically a transcription of the Sput averages with Vulnicura bumped down a tad |
Demon of the Fall
08.13.19 | Biophilia is a little underrated here, so that's a good call. Personally I really struggle with Medulla so that would come last, otherwise this is about right. |
tectactoe
08.13.19 | Damn, I've been contemplating making this list but you beat me to it. Our rankings differ quite a bit, here's what mine would look like (with three favorite songs highlighted from each):
1. Vespertine [Undo; Unison; Pagan Poetry]
2. Homogenic [Unravel; Joga; Hunter]
3. Debut [Human Behavior; Crying; Big Time Sensuality]
4. Vulnicura [Stonemilker; Family; Not Get]
5. Medúlla [Desired Constellation; Oceania; Who Is It?]
6. Volta [Earth Intruders; Wanderlust; The Dull Flame of Desire]
7. Post [Hyperballad; It's Oh So Quiet; Isobel]
8. Biophilia [Mutual Core; Sacrifice; Cosmogony]
9. Selmasongs [I've Seen It All; Cvalda; In the Musicals]
10. Utopia [Losss; Blissing Me; Arisen My Senses] |
BigPleb
08.13.19 | 'This is basically a transcription of the Sput averages with Vulnicura bumped down a tad'
Ok? Haha. |
Sinternet
08.13.19 | pretty great ranking, would personally bump 3 to the top and swap 4 and 5 maybe, but other than that no arguments |
BigPleb
08.13.19 | Biophilia is so good. |
pizzamachine
08.13.19 | It’s gotta be said
Wrong rating |
tectactoe
08.13.19 | It honestly baffles me that Volta is unanimously considered her worst. I genuinely do not understand why that's viewed as her goose egg. |
BigPleb
08.13.19 | It’s still somewhat good tec, she’s never released a bad album. |
Rik VII
08.13.19 | Volta feels kinda phoned in in comparison. Still some good stuff on it, and some nice versatility. Drawing Restraint 9 is undoubtedly her worst though, if that counts |
BigPleb
08.13.19 | Earth Intruders is a top tier track off Volta. |
Rik VII
08.13.19 | Yes, that one and Wanderlust are the best imo. Can't stand Innocence and Declare Independence though |
tectactoe
08.13.19 | Earth Intruders, Wanderlust, and Dull Flame of Desire are all great (imo), making for an incredibly strong three-song run to open the album. I also really like Vertebrae By Vertebrae, Innocence, Pneumonia, Hope, and (yes) even Declare Independence. It's definitely nowhere near her top-tier stuff, but I also think it's more accessible (and that's not to say "lesser") than Biophilia, Medulla, and Utopia. |
Tb1114
08.13.19 | Tectactoe's list is basically mine if Volta was bumped down some. |
Asdfp277
08.13.19 | don't let them do that to you! |
pizzamachine
08.13.19 | Y'all are all wrong, I don't even have to read comments |
Asdfp277
08.13.19 | well, yea |
Rik VII
08.13.19 | Hmm . . .
1) Vespertine
2) Homogenic
3) Biophilia
4) Debut (almost 3)
5) Post
6) Vulnicura
7) Selmasongs
8) Utopia
9) Medúlla
10) Volta
-looong leap-
11) Drawing Restraint 9
1 to 10 are all more or less evenly spread from "top 3 favorite album" to "still good". Amazing discography altogether, especially taking into account that she never repeated herself, ever. |
protokute
08.13.19 | debut is my personal favorite, but homogenic and vespertine are 5/5 albums too.
still need to listen to Biophilia |
Rik VII
08.13.19 | Biophilia is weirdly overlooked, never really got that. Has a lot of creative stuff.
I definitely have a soft spot for Debut's vibe. It's not as refined as later works, but that dreamy, almost childish feel is beautiful and pure. It also was the first Björk album I heard. It will always have a certain sentimental value to me, as the start of that amazing journey. |
tectactoe
08.13.19 | Debut is next level pop music. Maintains the upbeat aesthetic and pappy aspects of the genre while still including a lot of abstract sounds and structures. Bjork is a goddess. |
Hendoi
08.16.19 | bestpertine |
tectactoe
08.16.19 | Vespertine is one of those albums I always have to listen to from start-to-finish. Can never just pick a single track. It's too damn good.
Same with Kid A and Laughing Stock. |
