09.07.19 | interesting, I got an 80 |
GhandhiLion
09.07.19 | Great! He has 3 other tests on his page too. I like this tone deaf test.

09.07.19 | my results: https://gyazo.com/6c86e324c88138f7fd4009807af3cf7f |
Sinternet
09.07.19 | 85% but one i misclicked, scored highly on abstraction
fairly cool idea actually will try the others |
Ambrosian
09.07.19 | Also got 80, pretty cool test |
Uzumaki
09.07.19 | got a score of 85%. I did something similar at school, helping a teacher with a project involving language and sounds. |
clavier
09.07.19 | i just can't wrap my head around right or wrong answers for shape matching, isn't that a very subjective thing |
Sinternet
09.07.19 | 92 on the tonedeaf test, which is good news for my degree |
ArsMoriendi
09.07.19 | I got 75%
My answers improved as I went forward though |
Sinternet
09.07.19 | i thought the shapes were fairly intuitive, the actual shapes themselves are besides the point
what you need to look for is the patterns within the shapes, what shape it is matters little |
clavier
09.07.19 | fair enough, i don't really want to pull the "i have synesthesia" card but i find that my own visual perception of music really fucks with how it all works |
GhandhiLion
09.07.19 | It's about simplifying the structure of the music in your head. A simple example I could give is the Ternary form (ABA). The symbols for this case could something like this ☠O â˜
Not sure if this helps or im talking nonsense |
GhandhiLion
09.07.19 | "My answers improved as I went forward though"
You would probably find that your score would improve if you tried the test on a different day. |
ArsMoriendi
09.07.19 | 77.8% on the tone-deaf test.
Cool, I'm not tone deaf. |
clavier
09.07.19 | nah i get what you mean, those childhood piano lessons finally coming in handy
i still am not a big fan of the way the test is phrased though |
Kompys2000
09.07.19 | I got 80%, a bit trickier than I reckoned it would be lol |
GhandhiLion
09.07.19 | I think the point of it is that nothing is explained directly. It's testing intuition so it is unlikely to be phrased well. |
GhandhiLion
09.07.19 | I think this rhythm one is quite difficult. I got 80

SandwichBubble
09.07.19 | Sideways red triangle A with declining black arrow or inclining black arrow with declining red arrow, make your selection.
I got a 70% cause I didn't understand what the hell was happening.
Guy's website says he makes IDM, I don't trust his opinions on the intricacies of music honestly. |
GhandhiLion
09.07.19 | IDM musicians know a lot about intelligence. |
SandwichBubble
09.07.19 | And he's a radiologist, the shysters of the medical world.
Just kidding, sending love to all the rads and rad techs out there (all 0 of you on sput).
There was one where the three choices were just the same black square with three different red triangles facing different directions and my brain blue screened. |
GhandhiLion
09.07.19 | You clearly need to listen to more Autechre. There was no question like that iirc.
You blue-screened so hard that your memory corrupted. |
clavier
09.07.19 | intuition about what though, exactly
i realise this is just for fun and games but it stretches the imagination to think that there is some simple group of shapes whose representation of music is actually truth-apt, at least under the current vague definitions
of course, if most people gravitate towards the meaning of the test being about song structure, then so be it |
GhandhiLion
09.07.19 | I think most people catch on that it is about the music structure from the first questions which are purposely made simple for that reason. |
Prancer
09.07.19 | I thought the structure of the test was fairly straight forward once you could figure out that shape indicates melody and color indicates instrument, as demonstrated in the first question. still unsure what the test is meant to prove though. |
budgie
09.07.19 | this is the most retarded thing ive ever seen in my life |
GhandhiLion
09.07.19 | The visual test is more experimental. He describes it as novel. It's just some fun as Clavier said.
Anyway, the other tests are more definite, you might appreciate them more. |
Sinternet
09.07.19 | got 92 on the rhythm one which is worldclass apparently
and pitch perception is accurate to 1hz at 500hz which ain't bad either, my hearing isn't as bad as i thought it was then |
Rik VII
09.08.19 | 80%, about what I expected (the wrong ones were those it took me to get what it was about exactly). It's silly though. There should be more to a test about musical "intelligence" than clicking on forms. |
zakalwe
09.08.19 | Complete and utter total bollocks. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.08.19 | 80 for me too. I got a couple easy ones wrong near the beginning when I was still trying to figure out wtf I was doing |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.08.19 | How quickly you can figure out what the patterns/shapes/colours mean is probably supposed to be part of it tho |
Uzumaki
09.09.19 | Yeah, same here; it didn’t immediately click with me to equate shapes with the musical sections. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.09.19 | The squares with the little fucked up bit threw .e off for a minute |
parksungjoon
04.17.22 | wheres DeafMetal when you need him |
