11.13.19 | Would love to see everyone's lists! Hope to update my list within the next month with descriptions! Also, if its not already obvious, I don't own a Nintendo console form the past few generations other than the 3DS, so many great games, such as Mario Odyssey and the latest Zelda didn't make it onto my list simply because I haven't enjoyed them yet (one day I will hopefully). |
el_newg
11.13.19 | some good picks here! God of War is my fav from the PS4 era. Binding of Isaac and Rocket League would be 2 of my most played games so I'd have to include them |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | really? mass effect 2 as number 1?
also wtf is this pervert hentai shit at number 2 lol |
Funeralopolis
11.13.19 | Not in any order but some of my favourites from this decade:
Slay The Spire
Sonic Allstar Racing Transformed
Smash Ultimate
Persona 5
Skyrim
Last Of Us
Ni No Kuni
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Divinity Original Sin 2
Yoshi's Wooly World
Bayonetta
|
ramon.
11.13.19 | Catherine is actually a really good game, shoutout to Toph taking 2nd at EVO that one time
My list would probably look something like:
2010: new vegas (shoutout to ghost trick)
2011: dark souls
2012: diablo 3
2013: a link between worlds
2014: the talos principle
2015: pillars of eternity
2016: titanfall 2
2017: tekken 7 (technically speaking? sorry gorogoa)
2018: return of the obra dinn (sorry smash)
2019: havent played much, probably either baba is you or cadence of hyrule rn |
Gallantin
11.13.19 | Bloodborne and Resi Evil 2 are perhaps the only two I could agree with. |
Aerisavion
11.13.19 | Thank you for acknowledging PT.
RIP |
DopeFiend
11.13.19 | Terraria and Torchlight II were my most played games. both insanely addictive |
ramon.
11.13.19 | Fantastic games. Been playing the shit out of torchlight 2 recently with the switch port, running an embermage build. Kinda wish the fantastic PC mods were transferrable but the base game is still brilliant. |
Doibhin69
11.13.19 | no witcher 3 no list |
zakalwe
11.13.19 | Dark Souls
Poe2
Civ VI
Mass Effect 2
Bloodborne
Witcher 3
Poe1
|
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | oh wow, i just ordered the Last Guardian last night. Loved ICO and SOTC, so i'm pretty stoked to play it. I've been on mostly an indie binge the past couple years, but there have been some real gems: Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, Celeste, were all very enjoyable. I beat Chasm earlier this week, and it was much better than the reviews give it credit for, however, i believe it was patched a bunch after the initial flack. Just downloaded Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon last night and I am very stoked about that one |
Aerisavion
11.13.19 | Last Guardian is decent, couldn’t bring myself to plat it though fuck those grindfest trophies |
WatchItExplode
11.13.19 | Bloodstained absolutely rules.
I'm neck deep in New Vegas for the first time and might be the best RPG I've played since the first Mass Effect.
Also someone needs to mention Dragon's Dogma, sooooo...I just did. |
Demon of the Fall
11.13.19 | 1, 2, 4 & 8 rule, nice list.
'also wtf is this pervert hentai shit at number 2 lol' - it's actually a really cool puzzle game with an engaging narrative and multiple endings. I think the player is supposed to be attracted to the lass in the pic, otherwise the game and 'decision making' simply wouldn't work, or at least wouldn't feel personal. There's literally nothing pervy about it though, well maybe a little if you're 14 and get excited by half-clothed anime girls, but not really. It's not like you see much.
I played it for the first time when I was just getting into a relationship and tried to be as genuinely 'me' as possible, which was an interesting perspective. I didn't read too much into the outcome mind. |
vult
11.13.19 | wow so many major titles on this list (minus Catherine). My list would include:
Starcraft II
Witcher 3
Sonic Mania
Rocket League
Wolfenstein The New Order
Papers, Please
Cuphead
Transistor
Super Mario Odyssey |
ramon.
11.13.19 | Dragon's Dogma is a dumpsterfire |
Gallantin
11.13.19 | Is your list supposedly full of less major titles?
The least-major title on your list is Papers, Please which is still one of the biggest and most talked about indie games of the decade. |
Gallantin
11.13.19 | Dragon's Dogma is cool, don't hate |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | I've been so on the fence of getting Dragon's Dogma, and y'all don't help ;) I liked Skyrim a lot but didn't enjoy the Witcher 3, which I played for about 10 hours before putting down. |
WatchItExplode
11.13.19 | Dragon's Dogma is all about that Bitterblack Isle. Turns into a whole new experience. I also enjoyed the vanilla quest but it really doesn't compare to how intense that expansion is. You didn't really play DD if you didn't experience Dark Arisen. |
SymbolicInTime
11.13.19 | I haven't played an excess of games from this decade, but off the top of my head in no particular order:
Super Mario Odyssey
Cuphead
Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Golf Story
Doom 2016
Lego Marvel Super Heroes
Fallout New Vegas
Ratchet and Clank 2016
Until Dawn
Mortal Kombat 9 |
Demon of the Fall
11.13.19 | I love Ratchet & Clank, is the remake worth playing then? |
SymbolicInTime
11.13.19 | I never played the original, so I cant compare them honestly. From what I've heard though, the remake loses some of the personality of the original, but the weapon selection is a bit better. Without something to compare it to, though, I absolutely loved it |
Saros
11.13.19 | 2 and 8 are great, eagerly awaiting P5 Arena. |
Demon of the Fall
11.13.19 | My mum bought me (and my younger bro) the original on a whim, she later revealed (to me) that it was because she was concerned about all the violent games we played, lol (I was a teenager, but she was more concerned with him).
Great choice mum, I’ve loved the franchise ever since. |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | My parents bought me Mortal Kombat and then when they saw me playing it were like wtf. |
SymbolicInTime
11.13.19 | When I turned 6, my mom bought me a ps2 and Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance |
Saros
11.13.19 | As much of a fighting game fan I am, I've barely even played a Mortal Kombat game. I might've played a few rounds when I was at friends' houses, but I never was a big fan of the series. I was always more a Tekken and Soul Calibur guy, with some Street Fighter and MvC here and there. |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | m/ |
SymbolicInTime
11.13.19 | My favorite fighters are MK, Soul Calibur, and Killer Instinct. Never cared at all for Street Fighter or Tekken |
Demon of the Fall
11.13.19 | Yeah I was brought up on Tekken and Soul Calibur as well. |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | oh, but street fighter has always had the tightest controls. MK was stiff as heck, but it pushed the boundaries so hard, it was easily ignored. Soul Caliber was great. I always dug Darkstalkers cause of the sprite-work and animation. |
Saros
11.13.19 | Darkstalkers is so fucking underrated and it's a massive crime the series is practically dead now, and probably will remain that way thanks to Capcom. It's a shame because I really loved its concepts. |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | my man! |

11.13.19 | Yoshi's Island |
budgie
11.13.19 | "2012: diablo 3"
i hope u die irl today |
cfbassist
11.13.19 | No Nier Automata is a bit disappointing |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | lol, but have you seen the trailer/gameplay for 4? it looks.. promising? |
budgie
11.13.19 | "it looks.. promising?"
maybe to some. i went into some diablo 3 communities to see what the general opinion is about how the franchise should move forward and the news about diablo 4 having a simplified version of diablo 3 itemization (how can you simplify it further) has upset what seems to be a very small corner of the community. overall reaction has been "diablo 2 isn't actually good ppl are just looking at it with rose-tinted glasses" and "diablo 3 is good and diablo 4 should be like diablo 3"
so i don't see why blizzard would restore the franchise, i don't think they're even capable, i don't think they've made a good product since 2004 lol. diablo 3 sold so many fucking copies idk why they would even bother.
i'll be forever butthurt though because diablo 2 is a religious thing to me and it feels like the company just made a shitty console clone and it seems like diablo 4 will be the same bullshit where they just completely ignore the original fans of diablo 1 and 2
it makes me ANGRY!
but yeah basically no it the trailer/gameplay for 4 looks shit and maybe i will try an open beta out of curiosity but no i have no expectations and there's 0% chance it will be anywhere near as good as diablo 2
budgie has spoken |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | oh man, I played Diablo II (and I) again just last year and still loved it. Diablo III is not a good Diablo game. My impression was that it looked a little darker than 3, so I'm hoping it goes back to more of the horror/suspense roots. |
budgie
11.13.19 | aesthetic is important to be sure but i wouldn't care if it was more of the same isometric world of warcraft look as long as the fucking game was decent haha. i don't think just making it look dark will save the product if that's all it has going for it. |
samwise2000
11.13.19 | I probably didnt describe my list correctly lol. I limited my choices to 1 game per year. They are listed in order of release, from 2010 till 2019 : ) if I could, I would have also included dmc 5 |
Saros
11.13.19 | DMC 5 is probably my favorite this year. Astral Chain, Super Mario Maker 2 and Samurai Shodown all look pretty great too but I haven't played any of them yet. |
SymbolicInTime
11.13.19 | Oh man if I did 1/year I haven't the slightest clue what my list would be lol
I really gotta play DMC5 yet. Loved 3 and 4 |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Do people who pretend witcher 3 is the greatest game ever made just pretend like the dialogue isn't chronic facepalm, the armor and weapon selection isn't pathetic... |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | That the side quests and treasure huntsbecome painfully repetitive, and that the usage of ocean space isnt sheer laziness? |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Or that the skill tree limitations do nothing to prevent you from becoming OP too quickly for the game to match and instead just cock block the excitement of leveling past a certain point |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | dude.. that was my experience. I was like, what's the deal with the inventory? I never figured it out. One of my friends was like don't ever sell the armor you start with, it's the best, and i was like.. wait what? |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Or that you spend 75% of the game fighting the controls while you try to pick weeds or exit some fucking water, or dying from jumping off a 2 foot rock? |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Like it's a good game but people play it up like it's the best open world rpg ever made, and ironically enough it's not even truly open world |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | it makes me feel crazy when I talk to people about it, they are like WITCHER 3 is the best game ever, i want to get a witcher 3 tattoo, i can't wait for the netflix show! In theory I should love that game, but i couldn't get into it |
budgie
11.13.19 | what happened to EARNING your armor by finding for jah ith ber!!!??? you start with the best armor wtf? btw never played any witcher games except the first one's intro tutorial (i didn't like the combat system) |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | But wait! You can shave your beard and also endure the same exact cringey sex sequence with the exact same face swapped body model |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | the combat was also dreadfully stiff, and the main character Gerald had the personality of a stick. I remember reading this opinion of why the main character is so terrible:
https://www.gamecrate.com/opinion-witcher-geralt-terrible-protagonist/10937
spot on for me. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Tfw the mini card game inside the game is better than the game |
necropig
11.13.19 | bloodborne is one of the greatest things ever, so I approve |
wojodta
11.13.19 | Good list. I don't really have one for every year, but I'd definitely throw Alien Isolation on the list. Probably my favorite PS4 game ever. |
Wildcardbitchesss
11.13.19 | Props for including Catherine.
RDR2 In there instead of GOW and Uncharted instead of the Last Guardian |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Ds3>bloodborne |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | ds3 = bloodborne |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | They are close but ds3 has some of the greatest bosses OAT imo and (once you reach the halfway point) the levels are much less monotonously designed. Also fashion points. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Ds3 levels are still much more monotonous than ds2 tho, which I consider severely underrated for that aspect particularly |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Ds2 map is fucking awesome |
budgie
11.13.19 | have u boys played little nightmares |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | Ds3 bosses have been my favorite of the series agreed. Abyss Watchers and Lorian/Lothric were incredible |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | @budgie, no man I keep meaning to pick it up it looks beautiful, but feel like it's more about the atmosphere than the gameplay |
Wildcardbitchesss
11.13.19 | Bloodborne shreds dark souls imo
But I like Sekiro most |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Ds games compliment my play style much better than bloodborne as well so theres another plus. Still havent played sekiro, dont have the means to right now |
budgie
11.13.19 | yeah dungeon the gameplay is pretty much just.. run from evil humans who try to eat you, while enjoying the atmosphere along the way. it's also decently creepy. decently creepy, worth it for that alone |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | nice man, i'll have to play it sometime. did you ever play Inside? that game was fantastic |
budgie
11.13.19 | never heard of it, is it on steam? |
DungeonBoy
11.13.19 | ah, hmm, I don't know I just buy stuff from the Playstation store, i'm a ConsoleBoy, but it's cool, you might dig it. It's atmospheric, run to the right, avoid evil humans |
budgie
11.13.19 | it's on steam, looks pretty creepy too, thanks! |
Keyblade
11.13.19 | Rayman origins |
Keyblade
11.13.19 | just hit me how few new games I play |
Floofus
11.13.19 | Sekiro is lame and too repetitive. Demon's Souls is my personal favorite Souls game, but that's probably out of nostalgia.
Doom 2016
Pillars of Eternity 2
GoW (PS4)
RDR2
RE2 Remake
Those are the games I can think of right now that I'd put in a decade 10 list |
budgie
11.13.19 | why not pillars of eternity 1 |
Floofus
11.13.19 | I love both of them, but I find that PoE 2 is a perfect sequel, building upon the first game not only mechanically, but also in writing, scope and how it addresses your character in the world itself.
The first game never really touched upon the fact I played a godlike with a moon on their head. In 2 people actually responded to the fact that my head was on fire |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Demon souls is the worst souls game |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Just thinking about the commute to the final boss / the final boss himself and his stat raping gives me a ptsd episode |

The fallout games fucking suck. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | Havent played 4 tho but 3 and new vegas were lol |
Floofus
11.13.19 | The new ones, yeah.
1, 2 and New Vegas (to an extent) are great. |
DirEnRefused
11.13.19 | nice shout out of p5

11.13.19 | Anyone heard of this niche rpg, skyrim? It's pretty decent. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.13.19 | The ranged combat mechanics in the fallout games are even worse than in grand theft auto |
Wildcardbitchesss
11.14.19 | I can agree with that. Fallout is complete trash along with Skyrim. Don’t know what anyone sees in those games. |
Keyblade
11.14.19 | Skyrim I can see, but fallout, while it seems like a dope ass idea...just isn't very fun. granted I've only ever played 3 but yea |

probably my favourite mindless god simulator of recent, i have no grievances enjoying a core gameplay loop that consists of blowing everything on screen up and tripling your damage output every twenty minutes. i also never really look at diablo 3 relative to diablo 2. i don't like either game for near any of the same reasons. the rift in the playerbase is understandable. |
ramon.
11.14.19 | time to start a new stealth archer class |

11.14.19 | @key yeah man great concept terribly boring games.
I do enjoy the elder scrolls games tho |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | Good list. My top 10 would look much different but honestly every game you have here is superb, with a few being all time favourites. So much harder to make a top 10 games list than a top 10 albums list. Way too many masterpiece games to consider. Witcher 3, Nier Automata, Cupehead, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Celeste, Hollow Knight, MHW, Dishonored 2, Dirt Rally 2, Ori, Sonic Mania, Edith Finch, RE2, RE7, Mario Odyssey, Smash Ultimate, Hotline Miami, etc |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.14.19 | It's easier when you ignore indie games, or rank them separately |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | "The fallout games fucking suck"
Hard agree. Idk what people see in these games. 4 was pathetically bad |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | Skyrim is another game people lose their minds over but it's painfully average imo |
samwise2000
11.14.19 | If we are talking indies, I really loved hollow knight and Owlboy. The Shantae games are also underrated gems. |
Gallantin
11.14.19 | Anyone who talks shit on Fallout that have only played the Bethesda games don't get an opinion on anything |

2013 Last of Us

11.14.19 | where's the Nintendo, ya weenie
love the fuck out of 1 and 8 |
Gallantin
11.14.19 | RDR2's open world is the best quality of the game. RDR2's mission structure is where the ball was dropped. |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | Yea Gallantin that's what I meant. It's an awesome open world but the game is kind of ruined by their linear mission structure |
Wildcardbitchesss
11.14.19 | RDR2 is incredible man. I get it not being everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it has the best story of any game ever made. |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | I hate how restrictive their missions are. If you ever try to think outside of the box to complete an objective: "Mission Failed". Plus the vast majority of missions are: "go to this point on the map to meet this dude. Follow this dude for a while to the actual objective. Engage in another shooting gallery for the millionth time". The actual story and character progression feels so good for the first 3 chapters, and then I feel like the writing takes a huge nosedive towards the back end |
Wildcardbitchesss
11.14.19 | I totally get that. I like linear games so I felt the game was as perfect as an open world game could be.
And though a lot of the game is riding around on horses listening to people talk to each other, I felt the dialogue was good enough to make it worthwhile. |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | I liked the dialogue too for the most part, I just hate how abruptly everything comes to a head. Dutch and Arthur and a few others are so well written, I just wish the last few chapters didn't feel so rushed.
There are some really incredible random encounters in the open world though. Did you ever find the brother and sister? Or the serial killer? Those were so awesome - I wish there were more cool sidequests like those. |

Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.14.19 | fallout new vegas suffered from pretty much all of the same issues that made 3 a slog imo, the single exception being that there is 1 neat city amongst the miles of vapid, monotonous desert as opposed to 0 neat cities amongst the miles of vapid, monotonous desert |

11.14.19 | As much as I love New Vegas, I wouldn't even play it again. Even on PC with mods, I cannot stomach that pre-2010 Bethesda engine.

11.14.19 | One time I got into a mission way above my level by accident in the Witcher 3 and got soft locked. Had to kill a dwarf or something but my attacks did nothing and took like 30 mins of what was the lamest fight ever. 10/10 |

11.14.19 | I mean it's probably the best non-BOTW open world game. The sheer scope and detail is just mind blowing to me, like holy shit.
But the gameplay is just passable though. And it doesn't even work as a movie for me either. the dialogue is stiff and cheesy, feels like I'm watching criminal minds. |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | The gameplay isn't bad tbh, there's a lot of cool shit you can do, most players don't pick up on it. Also the writing is pretty damn good... Like, way better than most rpgs |
Gallantin
11.14.19 | Writing is okay at best |
Gallantin
11.14.19 | I mean I'd think the writing is great too if all my experience with storytelling prior is garbage |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | So what's garbage about The Witcher? What's good writing then? |
Gallantin
11.14.19 | The Witcher isn't garbage, it's just boring. And its writing is adequate. Expectations for games are so low that when a game that isn't complete garbage in the writing department, people hail it as the best writing ever. Not unlike how people praised the fuck out of RDR2's story, which is nothing special especially for its genre, or God of War, which is literally just the same dad and boy story that's been told a billion times. And yeah, the Witcher, which is an average fantasy RPG with dialogue that isn't complete crap and features basic meaningful choices (which shouldn't be such a big ask for RPGs, but here we are ).So the Witcher is okay, but you shouldn't expect anybody to be impressed by it.
If we're talking strictly games, my favourite writing is in Fallout 1, Planescape: Torment, and Demon's Souls. I also have a soft spot for Metal Gear Solid 3 but not on the basis that it's fantastic writing, I just really love campy spy shit. |
Demon of the Fall
11.14.19 | Nice to see this place is elite enough for there to be a backlash against the most popular RPGs in Fallout and Skyrim. Guess I'll be sticking to music for my hot-takes. |

11.14.19 | Lol Bethesda's RPGs have always been as wide as an ocean and as shallow as a puddle, this isn't new or elite. They're fun junk food games and nothing more. |

11.14.19 | "Not unlike how people praised the fuck out of RDR2's story, which is nothing special especially for its genre, or God of War, which is literally just the same dad and boy story that's been told a billion times."
Honestly dude, who gives a fuck? If the characters are engaging and the journey is fun are you really going to be like "this game isn't anything special because it has tropes". I never understand why people act like this shit has to be different to be good. Plus the writing for Witcher 3 (Hearts of Stone dlc especially) is pretty damn strong. There are some great characters and some affecting stories. It isn't all gold but the world building and all the systems therein are so good. |
Gallantin
11.14.19 | It's aiight Gyro, you're a white conservative male, I know I'm not gonna talk you out of loving your grumbly voice fantasy stories |

11.14.19 | I should really play Sekiro before the end of the year, but if I do then 4 of my top 10 games of the 2010s will probably be FromSoft games |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | Sekiro is top tier, but I wish it had a bit more to it. I feel like it's a bit shorter than most of their games, plus no online nor any dlc coming out for it lessens its longevity |
Scheumke
11.14.19 | I have no idea about years, but together the best games I've played would be (in random order):
- The Last of Us
- Red Dead Redemption 2

And two who weren't mentioned yet (I think):
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Uncharted 2 (4 coming close) |

11.14.19 | 'Lol Bethesda's RPGs have always been as wide as an ocean and as shallow as a puddle, this isn't new or elite. They're fun junk food games and nothing more.'
Thereby proving my assumption, because to most regular people they're not (only a hardcore gamer would say that, which is fine). Your average Joe who likes playing online shooters, sports games and the odd hand-holding linear action game, isn't going to think that. Hell, I don't think that and I'm probably at least one level past the casual gaming demographic. You guys out-gun me in this particular department, which is absolutely fine. It was just an observation. |
Gallantin
11.14.19 | Who the hell ranks levels of Gamer
People think the Avengers is deep too man doesnt mean it is
You can like it all you want, just be self aware. There's no elitism here, I've bought every single Bethesda game since Morrowind and even tho 76 was an absolute dumpster fire of trash I'll probably buy Starfield the week it comes out too. They make big fun puddles. Dumb, but fun. |

11.14.19 | "Aren't you white too? And aren't you an even bigger contrarian than I am?"
I'm white but I'm not a self confessed contrarian like you pal
My opinions exist because I have strong feelings for and against things
Your opinions exist bc you like to get a rise out of people |
aydross121
11.14.19 | Well this is just my 2 cents ofc, but I feel like the best stories in video games are the ones that couldn't really be told in other medium.
There's stuff like the fromsoft games where most of the plot is disjointed and told via the environment. Great storywise moments come from making connections between seemingly unrelated plots.
When I realized that the person that had murdered the firekeeper in DS1 was the same person I had freed a while ago it blew me away, it felt organic in a sense. A cutscene with Lautrec screaming "I KILLED THAT BITCH" wouldn't have worked as effectively.
Also take Undertale or Stanley Parable for example, how would you translate the experience into, say, a movie?
Obviously more traditional narratives have their merit, it's just not really what I usually want in a game. |
tectactoe
11.14.19 | where the fuck is Portal 2 you heathens. one of the best games of the decade and one of the best games of all time. |
Gallantin
11.14.19 | I'm with you, Aydross. Games excel in storytelling when they embrace things only they can achieve. That's why I love the storytelling in the Demon's and Dark Souls. Of course, FromSoft didn't invent environmental storytelling but they may have perfected it in my eyes. |
Demon of the Fall
11.14.19 | the Portal games are amazing yeah.
'You can like it all you want, just be self aware.'
Not sure I understand this, what if I actually think the games are quite deep on some level? Then no self awareness is necessary, its simply a difference in perspective. I wasn't 'ranking' gamers, just stating that people like different things, some prefer the more casual experience and to them, open world RPGs (even mainstream ones) won't appear the same as they do to someone like yourself. |
Gyromania
11.14.19 | Snox you're actually retarded if you couldn't tell I was being facetious |

11.14.19 | Oh yeah. Forgot about portal 2. That is one of the best. |
Demon of the Fall
11.14.19 | Maybe on some level, yeah. What if we're not necessarily talking about mechanics, character development etc. Fallout 3 has an intoxicating atmosphere (for me), it is also quite difficult on higher levels and I always struggle with ammo early on. Those are all things which add depth. I don't see it as a solely casual experience (although my experience with the game now makes it easier than it once was). |

11.15.19 | The whole trilogy is a masterpiece tbh, even with that disappointing ending in 3 |
Funeralopolis
11.15.19 | Want a good open world RPG play Gothic 2?
Maybe my favourite game all time tbh. game is VERY FLAWED, extremely clunky combat, poor balancing and some of the worst acting you've ever heard.
BUT - Game has unbelievable immersion and one of the satisfying senses of progress in gaming. Gothic is designed around the idea that your character is a nothing piece of shit, EVERYTHING will kill you. Even at higher levels you will struggle taking on 2+ enemies.
People in the game world will fuck you up, scam you, take advantage of you, and there is jack shit you can do about it. You have to keep your wits about you. You have to carefully pick and choose your battles. You can and SHOULD run away from most fights.
The world is unleveled with end-game creatures found near the beginning of the game. It is extremely satisfying to constantly test the waters of your strength and that one enemy that seemed impossible is now slightly manageable.
You spend tons of time sneaking around EXTREMELY dangerous wastelands with enemies that can one shot you. You have to plan out your routes, you have to play very carefully.
The combat is very clunky but 100% rewards good players. The combat system is very demanding and difficult to master, has a very high skill ceiling.
You start spend a good majority of the game being able to kill almost nothing by the end of the game you are slaying Dragons, raining hellfire, summoning skeletons and wearing paladin armour.
10/10 |

11.15.19 | mass effect 2 > 3 > andromeda > 1.. yeah i liked andromeda more than 1 bring on the hate. 1 has amazing story but the combat is soooo dated. |

11.15.19 | Gothic is cool, yeah.
Also on the Mass Effect debate: the first game is the only good one |
Wildcardbitchesss
11.15.19 | Ya one is only ‘good’ at the absolute best. I wouldn’t even say the story is all that great. All the squadmates are plain as hell. Garrus is probably my favorite character in the entire series but he’s so boring in ME1.
Saren is the best part of the game and he’s not in it nearly enough. Literally the only thing ME1 has on the rest of the series is that it’s actually an RPG
ME2 and ME3 (yes terrible ending and all) are leagues above that game. And the less said about Andromeda the better... |
Gallantin
11.15.19 | ME1 just has the coolest missions, that's literally all that makes it better |
Gallantin
11.15.19 | Also they nerfed biotics in ME2, so the combat is also better in ME1 just for that |
Demon of the Fall
11.15.19 | ME2 is marginally better than ME1 overall, but both rule (for different reasons). ME3 was a shit-show and I haven't even bothered with Andromeda yet. |

Wildcardbitchesss
11.15.19 | What do you hate about ME3 demon? If the ending didn’t suck it’d probably be my favorite. |
Demon of the Fall
11.15.19 | Ending was sucky yeah and I felt like they dumbed down the RPG elements in favour of making a solid shooter (which it was, of course), the missions weren't as engaging and it was noticeably more linear. I know ME has never been an open world game, but give me some options damn it. It just felt like an on-rails shooter for practically the entire game and the progression system was almost non-existent, maybe I'm remembering wrong idk. My expectations were definitely not met.
I only played it once. |
Wildcardbitchesss
11.15.19 | I get that, I’ve always liked shooters most so it never really bothered me. I thought the game had incredible character moments and amazing set pieces. They really sold the whole galaxy at war thing. |

11.15.19 | Combat in Witcher 3 is deep and fun, esp with parrying and using items and potions. Also open world in Witcher 3 > Witcher 2, and graphics? Lol wut? 3 obviously looks way better who gives af about how it looks "for its time" (which, still, Witcher 3 is quite impressive esp considering the size of its world). The main questline in Witcher 3 isn't amazing asides from the bloody baron quests, but the side quests are perhaps the best I've seen in an rpg, not your typical fetch quest nonsense. And ofc both dlcs are superb. Hearts of Stone is a great faustian tale with memorable characters and Blood & Wine added a gorgeous new region with a shit ton of stuff to see and do. Whack opinions itt |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.15.19 | I kinda hate when games give difficulty settings like that. If they have them, normal should be the way they were meant to be played and anything higher should be ng+ type stuff |

11.15.19 | I wish Metro Exodus was longer (it wasn't that short but one or two sandbox areas would have fleshed it out brilliantly) but what is there is still one of the best games I have played. foxblood
11.22.19 | new vegas too. I know new vegas technically counts but fallout 3 is from 2008 and the game is essentially the same. Love both tho |
ignorethefashion
11.22.19 | cuphead and sonic mania are great. a lot of good games came out of this recent retro explosion though--the messenger, both bloodstained games, axiom verge, hollow knight, owl boy, shantae, monster boy, octopath traveler, binding of issac, etc. |
samwise2000
11.22.19 | Also some great fighting games, like Skullgirls, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, Dragonball FighterZ, and Tekken 7, which is probably my most played game of the decade behind Borderlands 2 |
Keyblade
11.22.19 | dbfz rules, did it really come out this year tho? |
wutang4ever
11.23.19 | What ever happened to Telltale games? They destroyed the decade with games no one could make today if they tried. |
Gallantin
11.23.19 | No one could make basic visual novel style movie games with the illusion of choice? Their games were bad and not at all unique.
Telltale fired all their employees and sold off the company name. |
wutang4ever
11.23.19 | I highly disagree with that first statement. How is The Wolf Among Us not unique? Are you on crack cocaine? |
Gallantin
11.23.19 | There is literally nothing new about choose your own adventure games lol |
Gallantin
11.23.19 | Like, Telltale Games was created by the people who already helped define the genre, Telltale was just a continuation of the exact type of games they'd been making for decades prior |
wutang4ever
11.23.19 | You didn't say new, you said not unique. |
Gallantin
11.23.19 | Yeah, it's not unique. |
Gallantin
11.23.19 | Comic book adaption: not unique
Comic style visuals: not unique
Point and click-style adventure gameplay: not unique
Multiple narrative choices: not unique |
Gallantin
11.23.19 | I mean like it all you want but don't pretend it was some grand reinvention of a genre |
wutang4ever
11.23.19 | Like what exactly? Which game? They did quite a few, most notably The Walking Dead which was released sometime in 2012. I was 11 when that came out and I played it constantly. Still, the end makes me cry every time. |
Gallantin
11.23.19 | Alright well if you were only 11 when it came out, that explains why yoy wouldn't be all that familiar with the prior 30 years of adventure games |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.23.19 | fucking rofl
how are people so damn gullible |

11.23.19 | "Alright well if you were only 11 when it came out, that explains why yoy wouldn't be all that familiar with the prior 30 years of adventure games"
Name one. Just one that comes close to anything Telltale games have done. I don't think you have even played one of their games for more than 5 minutes. If you did, and hated it you might have really bad taste. |
samwise2000
11.23.19 | Wolf Among Us was really great, especially for me, an avid fan of Fables. I think anyone who enjoyed it needs to check out the comics, they are brilliant in every way. |
