11 | | Snowing I Could Do Whatever I Wanted If I Wanted
Emo - 9/10 |
10 | | Kanye West Yeezus
Hip-Hop - I read a quote that stated: "I always come back to it whenever I want to know what courage is." In my opinion this album is better than anything released by Death Grips, building off of the unique industrial trend to make one of the most ferocious and bold albums of the decade. |
9 | | Bon Iver Bon Iver, Bon Iver
Folk / Indie Rock - Better than Emma. Stunningly beautiful album. |
8 | | The Chariot Long Live
Metalcore - This is what punk music is all about. This is a fucking anthem. |
7 | | Converge You Fail Me Redux
Metalcore - I don't know if this counts as a release from this decade, but screw it, it's my list. This remaster so DRASTICALLY improves the album that this is seriously up there with Jane Doe among the best metalcore albums ever made. |
6 | | Fka Twigs Magdalene
Art pop - This is the defining album for FKA Twigs that I always knew she had in her. This takes the standard 'dark R&B' formula founded this decade by the likes of The Weeknd and really pushes its creative limitations to make a release that is horrowing, personal and beautiful. |
5 | | letlive. Fake History (Re-Release)
Post-hardcore - Yea, yea some people will give me shit for this one, but if there was any doubt in my mind that wasn't one of the most impassioned albums of the decade seeing Letlive. perform only cemented this into me. There is a real tenaciousness and hunger to this album - it just goes hard. Probably the most fun album all decade long. |
4 | | Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Hip-Hop - 9.5/10 If there was one album to define this decade this would be it. This album really thinks outside the box showing hip-hop at its most royal and grandoise. It takes the best out of every featured artist and features some of Kanye's best lyrics and beats to date. |
3 | | Kendrick Lamar good kid, m.A.A.d city
Hip-Hop - There is little doubt in my mind that Kendrick is the most defining artist of this decade. Good Kid maad city is really a perfect hip-hop album, while not innovative, this is poppy hip-hop done at the absolute highest calibre. |
2 | | The National High Violet
Indie Rock - the perfect National album and a fantastic follow-up to their classic album Alligator. Some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard, with massive arrangements while still maintaining The National's famous brand of overtly personal emotions. |
1 | | Deathspell Omega Paracletus
Black Metal - 10/10 An unbelievable masterpiece. I truly believe this album is ahead of its time, there is no doubt that a massive amount of bands have already been influenced by Deathspell Omega's triology and Paracletus stands as their crowning achievement. I really believe 20 years from now this album will be seen as an absolutly essential classic metal album. |
