04.23.20 | Mine would be Melt-Banana - Candy Gun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZSL21lcoH4
I'd edit the theme song to include the first 20 seconds, then it would jump from like 1:16 to 1:54, then incorporate the last 10 seconds or so. In the beginning I imagine a spaceship slowly "floating" (im no scientist eh) in space. When the bassline at 1:23 kicks in, the camera would go inside the ship and you'd see cool shit like an ugly alien, a sexy alien, a nerdy alien and the sidekick alien go about their respective business or stuff like that. Then, from the 1:43 riff onwards you'd see the spaceship cruising hyperspace. The last 10 seconds of the theme would be really cliche with many planets and black holes coming together as one to form the show name. The show would be a Foundation scifi one with different protagonists looking for the Second Foundation or stg like that idk |

04.23.20 | "Green Typewriters" (the third one (there's ten)) by The Olivia Tremor Control (from their album Dusk at Cubist Castle)
The five boroughs of NYC are changed one day by a mysterious force. For some reason, everyone throughout New York City cannot leave the outer bounds (including some surrounding bodies of water) of the city or even see beyond them. They're also cut off from all contact from the outside world, even digitally (yet internet and phone still somehow work within the limits with each other.) This leads to harsh political changes within the city. Parts of the city revert back to farming communities, all sorts of chaos and overthrows break out, and best of all: our protagonists make it their duty to figure this mystery out. The discovery of why this has happened is worse than they could have ever imagined. (The theme itself is just shots of NYC in this dystopian world) |

04.23.20 | Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, this is a pretty good idea! I think I'll follow May more closely.
If I could make my own TV show, that'd be a dark fantasy series based on the God Wars trilogy written by Mark Eller and Elizabeth Draper. Those books are pretty metal since they're filled with murder, betrayal, gore etc. + plenty of chapters are about Hell and the evil gods, and I thought the album 'Ceremony Of Opposites' by Samael was very matching listen to the books. So I could easily imagine 'Baphomet's Throne' as a theme song for that series~
So, my pick is Baphomet's Throne by Samael (https://youtu.be/o09mull0wZI) |

04.23.20 | OK I'm pitching a punk rock 5 minute fast meal cooking program. Where the premise is not giving a fuck about any rules or using industry lingo. Just get in there slap some ingredients together, don't be pretentious about it, and have some early 80s hardcore playing in the back ground.
The show will be called
Anarchists Cook, with No Book
The theme song would be.
Descendents- I Like Food.
Off Fat EP
And at the end of each episode, just before signing off, when the host, probably a hot punk rock chick in bowling pants, is about to take a bite, she says "Bon Appétit Cunt Munchers". Then the program ends with this theme song again.

04.23.20 | Ok, I’ll play. Mine would be called “Tusitala” and the synopsis would thus be:
Set in an alternate history during the second War of the Crown era (light steampunk elements and magic usage; think dying days of flintlock weapons), we follow a ragtag group of outcasts and fugitives as they travel through enemy lands, on a mission to ferry a pair of royal twins to the capital of the land and to their rightful claim to the throne, but the twins’ cousin, the current ruler, conspires to assassinate them en route and sends spies and assassins to find and kill them all. The entourage’s leader, Mallory, is a former captain of the king’s guard and secret witness to the former king’s murder at the hands of the twins’ cousin. Entrusted to guard the twins with his life on the dying breath of the king, he is framed for treason and narrowly escapes execution with the help of two other members of the entourage, Gregor and Malov, former scouts who served under Mallory and now live as sellswords. Rounding out the party are a foreign sellsword named Kiiv who may have more of a connection to this situation than she lets on, an enchantress only known as The Gypsy who served as the personal tutor to the royal twins and Sabine, a former nun to the Holy Church of Light who was subjected to tortuous rituals of magic in the Church’s name and left for dead after one such ritual. Unbeknownst to the Church though, this particular ritual was horribly successful, with the end result being half of her soul is inhabited by a demon and only kept separate (and secure/sedate) by a single magic crest, separated into two halves and burned into either palm of her hand. The demon is only loosed when she puts her hands together as if to pray, therefore completing the crest and temporarily breaking the hold it has on it, to which the demon indwells within her and physically transforms her into the demon’s form and visage. |

04.23.20 | Had this idea for a show where someone is living in this unreal world, some sort of paradise, though nearly everyone he meets despite being attractive/young talks gibberish or behaves strangely. He sometimes has friendships or relationships with them, kisses them, do other crazy shit together. Then slowly he starts getting flashes of images of his actual reality - he’s in a series of padded cells that are a sort of VR headset dementia nursing home of the future. Then eventually he gets a flash of his reflection and he’s actually young. Over time he’s given clues about who he is and the conspiracy of why he’s been sent to this place. Then it’s a twisted prison break type scenario with help from someone in the facility who wants to help him (the person responsible for the glimpses of reality) etc. It just proved a bit unwieldy to actually write. I’ll think of a theme tune later, maybe something by early Mercury Rev. |

00:50 - 2:00
The aging head of a British crime syndicate begins to suffer from the effects of dementia - namely memory loss. Starts to go soft, seems to forget parts of his past that made him into the right 'orrible cunt he is. Has to have his legendary tales of joint manipulation, broken bones, hospitalisation, police evasion etc described to him like folklore by his family - but he's beside himself, refuses to believe he'd even be capable. His sons try to oust him as it's starting to impede on the business, but he won't budge (he's retained his stubbornness and forked tongue). Decides to use the weight of the family name to right wrongs and improve the community. But how long will he hold onto his faculties? Is it possible for those he has wronged to forgive him? And are his criminal mentalities so deep-seeded as to not be truly eradicated? |

04.26.20 | My series would be cheesy, but marketable. (Also expensive, so Doof will have to lend me the money to buy up all of the film rights.
It's Friday the 13th: Forest Green. The main protagonist would be Tommy Jarvis from the 4th and 6th Friday the 13th films returning home to Crystal Lake (now renamed Forest Green) after his release from decades in a mental asylum. It would involve him moving in with his sister Trish, her husband and their two teen children. Eventually, he would begin to suspect that you-know-who was alive, and would begin to work together with other Friday the 13th surviving characters (such as Ginny Fields from the second film) to try to track down and kill supernatural serial killer Jason Voorhees.
All of which is just an excuse for my song rec this month, Alice Cooper's "He's Back: The Man Behind the Mask" from the Constrictor album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz-y3SJyEVA |

04.26.20 | Since my rec for last month held up pretty well I'm going to rec another song that I discovered through that same 5/5 soundtrack that coincidently would make a great theme song for a show imo. It would be an adaptation of the psychedelic western Pretty Deadly by Kelly Sue DeConnick:
"... an all-new ongoing series that marries the magical realism of Sandman with the western brutality of Preacher. Death's daughter rides the wind on a horse made of smoke and her face bears the skull marks of her father. Her tale of retribution is as beautifully lush as it is unflinchingly savage."
"Pretty Deadly, one of the most fascinating comics published today, is a magical realist genre-bender that began as a Sergio Leone-style Western, but has transformed into a grisly World War I story with its second arc."
the song is Lostfound by Francis Harris

04.27.20 | Hey I have a sci-fi show! Not going to get super into it for copyright reasons because I'm actually planning on making it one day, but I will say that it plays into the extraterrestrial origins of the human race as a metaphor for our (in?)ability to escape our genetic roots in militarism and nationalism
Anyway, this song is fucking ridiculous but the unintelligible lyrics and bizarre guitar/percussion sound always made me think of a science-fiction hybrid. It can be annoying as fuck but basically the choruses and 3:30-onwards are god-tier rock music imo

Mine would be an adaption of the homerus works: Illiad and Odyssey. From what i've seen most adaptions are either older or not very good so i would love to see a a new interpretation. They haven't been done together either (i think) within a singular vision so i think that would be cool. First season will be the trojan war, the second will be odysseus journey home and the third season will do the brave move to imagine the lost sequel, the Telegony
As for the song pick, I choose the single edit of golden threads of the sun from yndi halda (original is from the album Under Summer)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZOhr0ru91I
to me this song follows the theme of longing for home that is especially prevelent in Odyssey but i think it will work for Illiad as well. Probably the 1:47-2.48 part for the theme |

05.02.20 | I guess because the show glorifies suicide as a cryptic mystery? |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.02.20 | gonna come clean and say that 75% of my awareness of 13 reasons why comes from conversations with friends who i am not certain have watched it themselves, but the crux of the argument was that it treated suicide as an arbitrary vehicle of intrigue in a way that inadvertently glamourised it instead of unpicking its psychological complexity and ultimate tragedy - the impression i had was that suicide in the show isn't a tragic termination, but the start of something edgy and exciting. this seemed plausible enough that i didn't question it, but i'm down to browse a few eps if this seems unfair |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.02.20 | ffs tl;dr what ars said |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.02.20 | incidentally, i'd probably adjust my show lineout so that the death was revealed to be a total accident towards the end of the series, so the various characters' "why did she do it/was it my fault"s seemed 100% self-absorbed and a vague satire of the glorification/mystery route. and then, for good measure, i'd also reveal that the dead character knew all along about their various secrets and shittiness but didn't give a shit, so the whole story was pointless all along |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.02.20 | yeah but television has been glamourizing rape and murder since like 1927 whats the difference? at least the heart was in the right place with that show, at least as far as i could tell. the criticism seems to me to be kind of one of those things that people who don't actually have much first or secondhand experience with clinical depression or suicide are quick to make, speaking over some of the people who do who found aspects of the show relatable or cathartic. kind of like when people ban topics that don't affect them at all from humour for being offensive when people who have lived those topics often find them cathartic.
i wouldnt exactly recommend watching it johnny, there are much better shows out there and there seemed to be no reason to continue it after the first season ended, but the criticisms levelled at it for being toxic, for that first season at least, felt largely like just another dumbass byproduct of this age of people wanting to feel smart by arbitrarily getting butthurt about shit without really thinking about it |
Divaman
05.02.20 | I think the thing with 13 Reasons was that a lot of people felt that it romanticized suicide, and that it was aimed at a teen population that was already more prone to see suicide as a great romantic gesture than is the rest of the population. People were afraid it was going to provoke a wave of teen suicides. |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.02.20 | "yeah but television has been glamourizing rape and murder since like 1927 whats the difference?"
murder's kinda a lost cause, but i think the last few years have seen meaningful changes to discourse over how it is and isn't appropriate to present rape - but that's another topic *dodge long circuitous convo about false equivalence*
"speaking over some of the people who do who found aspects the show relatable or cathartic"
so my knee-jerk reaction is that this is a v valid point, but also neither of these reactions are inherently therapeutic, and it's easy to imagine them validating a suicidal mindset as much as challenging it. this is obviously from an uninformed perspective + i'm only writing it for the sake of responding to your comment, so call it loose conjecture for the time being becauuuuuse...
"the criticisms [...] were largely just a dumbass byproduct of this age of people wanting to feel smart by arbitrarily getting butthurt about shit without really thinking about it"
...yknow i'm gonna watch it now lol |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.02.20 | you'd have to pretty bluntly ignore/gloss over all the nuances and implications made by that show to singularly glean the perception of it being a glorification of suicide as a mystery adventure. i felt that, at the very least, it did a good job in that first season of demonstrating how complicated and multifaceted issues like bullying, trauma, depression, anxiety etc are, and it made you empathize with pretty much every single character for having their own fucked up issues instead of really demonizing anyone in particular.
"a lot of people felt that it romanticized suicide"
well, hard pill to swallow but suicidal people DO romanticize death/suicide. thats really how it be.
"People were afraid it was going to provoke a wave of teen suicides."
i guess its easier to blame someone/something else for contributing the prevalence of the mental health epidemic than it is to do a little self reflection on how we have contributed to the poor treatment and stigmatization of people with mental health issues. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.02.20 | "but i think the last few years have seen meaningful changes to discourse over how it is and isn't appropriate to present rape"
fair enough, but i don't think that this representation of suicide was inappropriate as much as i think that people are just severely discomforted by it, which is just a byproduct of all the stigmatization and dismissal that we are just starting to challenge.
"it's easy to imagine them validating a suicidal mindset as much as challenging it."
i don't think the point was to challenge suicidal mindsets though. thats kind of the opposite of what people suffering from depression need. most people with depression feel as if their suicidal thoughts are unwarranted, they want to keep that shit secret because they feel they have no real reason to feel that way. as a first world epidemic a lot of suicidal people realize that they have it pretty good and that they must be fucked up for feeling this way and they feel crushing amounts of guilt about it. if anything, i personally feel that validating the suicidal mindset is a positive thing for people, and it makes it easier for them to talk about it and seek help. it was like that for me. |

"Grave" by Reality Suite from the comp album Awaken (Deluxe Edition)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNatn60X-x8
Because it's a good song with plenty of references to death, blades and graves, and it's not totally dark - it kind of matches the mood and feel of the Alice Cooper song. |

4. Golden Threads of the Sun - Absolutely love Enjoy Eternal Bliss, was kinda lukewarm towards this record though. 3.5 + I kinda could picture the Homeric image with these strings, although it's a tad too "calm" for me, + 0.1 => 3.6 |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.04.20 | 1. Melt-Banana - Candy Gun: Mandatory full marks even tho not [nearly] the best on the album [2], greatest band of all time k 5
2. Shade Empire - Ash Statues: Was vaguely on board with this until the vox came in. This show would need a hella personable narrator character to pull this off. Very epic. Can see it sortof working for opening credits, but at the same time it doesn't build into particularly distinct phases so I won't add many points. Could see this working for a good ol' end of season showdown though 2.5
3. The Olivia Tremor Control - Green Typewriters part III: lol this band love their gimmicks but were talented enough to pull them off. I should check this album, I like Black Foliage. Odd choice of credits theme, but I could see it working if the show carries some wry humour. 4.0
4. Yndi Halda - Golden Threads of the Sun: Enjoy Eternal Bliss is barely a step ahead of ...Cold Dead Place and You Are There when it comes to overrated post-rock nonclassics for me, so my hopes were not high. This is weirdly less impressive than that record (which was plenty ambitious) but also far less underwhelming, which I guess is a good thing? It's a nice track, I like how it balances its momentum + the strings are a nice touch. Can see it working for this premise easily, so extra points: 3.7 |

05.04.20 | And for closing theme, Triangulo di Amor Bizarro - Amor para Ti (from their new album with an upside-down title): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Lmig4buIQk
I think I'd want my series to have a kind of contemporary Twin Peaks-ism where it trades quirky deadpan humour off against moments of disarming sincerity; the end creds would focus on the latter. The show kinda parodies how self-absorbed the main characters are; the creds would an unravelling of this, a montage of them interacting with minor characters in a way that frames them non-focally as part of a wider community. By the end of the credits the audience would get this sense of "oh ok, this filmworld is bigger than these characters and the narrative we're seeing isn't as all-consuming within it as it's made out to be during the episodes," and this should feel like relaxing kinda release. Song is dope. |

05.04.20 | Yndi Halda - OK, this starts out nice and soothing. It's a little low energy, though, and at 14+ mins long, I'm not sure they can keep my interest. Let's see. OK, about 2 and a half mins in, there's some kind of change. The pace (and volume) are picking up a bit. If they're not careful, they're going to wake me up. So far, it's a solid 3, maybe slightly higher. Intensity is picking up even more at about the 5 minute mark. Still 9 minutes to go though. Ok, quieting down again. The song has good dynamics. Let's read a little more about the artist while the slow violin and softly picked guitar are taking over. Post rock. Classical. Classical? Maybe a little. British band. Name means "enjoy eternal bliss". Doubtful, but thanks for the wish. Vocals kick in again softly just before the 9:45 mark. Going back to bed soon. OK, pace picking up again at 10:35 or so. Some of the instrumentation is nice. I'm still hovering right around a 3, though. Ya got two minutes left to raise my score, guys. Sound is filling out. Looks like they're going for a big finish. I'm thinking 3.1, 3.2? Last minute. Take me home in style, boys! Yeah, I'll give it a 3.1. |

Tomorrowland type of show, takes place in the future yada-yada, think Guardians of the Galaxy aesthetic, yee. Guess the main manager guy of the park could be a bad dude so on and so forth, and some people in the park could foil his plans. The dudes have superpowers too cause why not, you know the ending fight scene of Star Trek Into Darkness? kinda feel like a scene like that would fit. Cliche ass story but it'd look damn good doin' it, ya feel. But overall just listen to the song as if you where sprawling through the theme park etc. etc. Also the song could play in it's entirety in only the first episode to have a little set up in a The Incredibles (Pixar movie, incase people are incultured) styled short movie (you know which type I mean), perhaps a snippet of the song on other episodes there after. Probably the very start of the song could be a good intro jingle until like 0:12, short but sweet. |

I already love this song, no fair! French Minnie Mouse? More like Japanese Chipettes. The bass is deep and awesome, the vocals are weird, but unique and not bad honestly at all. Drums are super fun too.
4.8/5
"Ash Statues"
Ah just what black metal needed: to be fused with progressive metal. Now it's ugly as fuck AND lame. Kinda generic too. It sounds like the most boring riff and drums ever. Following black metal tradition: the bass inaudible too. Sorry, Scheumke.
1.5/5
"Golden Threads of the Sun"
Cool atmosphere so far. Vocals are kinda bland, but I guess they fit. I like the noisiness of this, it's subtle, but not "shoegazy" somehow. This is good, but not amazing.

05.06.20 | I've always had the idea of a show that would essentially be an elongated version of Hertzfeldt's "It's Such a Beautiful Day" films - a crudely animated, heavily existential journey of one man and his interaction with the world around him. Like a cartoon version of Seinfeld, in some ways, but far less outwardly jokey - a very bone-dry riff on "a show abut nothing" that actually ends up being a show about everything. Though the films I'm referencing take liberty with (mostly) classical music, I'd like to add a bit more buoyancy, since I'm not merely zoomed into the microscopic end of this man's life. Thus my theme song choice would be boppy, playful, and somewhat cartoon-ish, highlighted by an undercurrent of melancholy. I choose "Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second" by STRFKR.

05.08.20 | My series will be about a post-apocaliptic setting with a lot psychologic shit between characters. The premise is that we've been worshiping the wrong god this whole time and he thinks it's time for judgement day. About 90% off the population suddenly vanishes with only those free of sin remaining. If you sin once you get swooshed away and the sin you comitted gets written on your forehead. So it's up to a group of people to record every sin that exists and try to fix the world. It has a lot to do with psycholigy like Das Experiment, where humans turn on themselves because they can. It isn't about survival in the literal sense, just about staying sane in this world. The opening has a lot of refrences too god and is very dark in tone.

3.2/5
"The Face You Don't Recognise"
I like the crackling. The looping is interesting too, though a bit too repetitive for my liking maybe? The vocals are fine, but not really anything that grabs me. The vocals honestly give this song a lame half-assed epic quality to it, which sucks cuz I like the music. I like how it musically is progressing so I'll give it a positive score for that alone.
3.5/5
"Boys Peel Out"
I like Mercury Rev's first 3 albums, but Boces is my least favorite of those and it's kinda because of tracks like this. This song is so aimless and boring. Even though the bass and bells are cool. You get complete knockouts like Meth of a Rockette's Kick and Hi-Speed Boats, and then just like space fillers like "Boys Peet Out" and "Downs Are Feminine Balloons."
2.8/5
"He's Back: The Man Behind The Mask"
80s cheese with Cooper's weak vocals? Oh god. Isn't the best thing about Cooper his ability to use shock rock? When you strip that away, his performance is dreadful. This is like REO Speedwagon gone goth plus synths. Fuck this. I think I'd rather listen to extreme metal and I hate extreme metal.

As a theme: how is this dystopian? the only way i could see this fit the concept for your show is if you stripped all the political and economic shit and made it into a really wholesome slightly surreal comedy/drama with the same concept of being mysteriously trapped in new york. like a similar feel to russian doll or something.

Theme for the Eulipions - Rahsaan Roland Kirk
My show is about a traveling troubadour. He’s an aloof man that is something of a legend and a mystery, and he just spreads his art across the country's seedier areas. The show is structured as our main man being a bit of a transitional piece in each episode. Let’s say he is staying in a lounge or playing on a sidewalk somewhere and he tangentially encounters someone who is in some sort of life trouble. Gangs, domestic disputes, corruption, depression, crimes, etc. He’s a witness to all this, but is more of an omnipresent observer. As the episode progresses with whatever character we deal with it always comes full circle to our main man as he leaves the area that he visits to continue his mission. He’s never shocked or surprised by the conclusion of the episode’s main character because he has seen it all before. If there were songs for each episode, think “Meeting Across the River” by Springsteen, “Waiting for my Man” by Velvet Underground, or “Hey Joe” by Hendrix. I picture this as a show that takes place decades ago. Kind of like a seedy noir film.

Norma Tanega - You're Dead
Long drone shot of expansive, dense woods. We slowly zoom in on an off-white Volkswagen bus, driving down a lone road with the windows down. A pair of feet hang beside the rear view mirror, kicking to the beat of the track. Pan across the passenger, Samantha, 20s, 70s haircut, summer dress, wide grin across her face. She looks at the driver, her fiancee, Bruce, 20s, afro, faded t-shirt and jeans, equally big smile. Close up of the hub cap spinning as it reflects the crumbling pavement rolling quickly beneath.
Cut to night time, the pair sitting around a campfire, the flicker of the flame illuminating the trees surrounding them. It feels warm. Cut to them sleeping in the van. Long shot of the van, engulfed by darkness, and we feel as though we're someone watching them from outside. Cut to them sleeping. Cut to the long shot, getting closer. Cut to them sleeping.
Back on the road, daytime, driving faster it seems. Couple smile. Hub cap spins. Tire pops. Bruce holds tightly onto the wheel as the heavy bus careens into the side of the road, making impact with a tree. Cut to night time. Van sits lonely on the side of the road, the front end bent in half like a piece of paper. Samantha can't see from her side, but Bruce is dead. She looks about her, shattered glass, wood chips, strands of hair and blood. Then she looks out her window and sees, in the distance, an abstract silhouette. It's the shadow of something unnatural, otherwordly, and it's coming towards her. She panics. She grabs the door handle but the door is crinkled shut. She's out of this world.
(Basically, a campy horror/sci-fi show that takes place in "the woods" where unnatrual things happen. The opening theme shows us the events of ground zero where the first creepy event happens, and why the main story unfolds.)
Edit: Damn I wrote a lot, that edible kicked in. |

05.14.20 | i lied, actually my recommendation would be "Good News" by Mac Miller of his recent posthumous album Circles. and specifically the chorus and parts of the second verse, maybe even the third one + outro depending on the length of the theme. also, if you're gonna copypaste something from this for the entry, it's mostly just because it has such a unique sense of self (and mortality even) but also retains a strong accessibility that it's catchy even outside of its strong lyrical content. ideally, you would want both of these in theme song, no? |

05.14.20 | Grimes - I've apparently never listened to a Grimes song before, considering I always pictured her somewhat growlier and was totally unprepared for the babydoll voice. I liked the synths that opened it. The song wasn't horrible, but wasn't memorable. I'll give it a 2.8. I'd give it a 3 if I liked her voice better (although it's possible if I listened to her enough, and was prepared for it, the voice would grow on me). |

05.15.20 | my perpetual lack of sobriety does not stop for synopsis', but if it did it'd probably be for a show about a group of journalists who are trying to blow the whistle on a big pharmaceutical company, though they can't get the greenlight from their higher-ups and have to find a way around it by basically bullshitting feel-good news stories as a decoy while they try to find a workaround for blowing the whistle without being tied to it whatsoever. then again, i blow donkey dicks at this fuckin game, and i already don't like my own idea so here's the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIHF7u9Wwiw |

05.20.20 | 1. Candy Gun - Melt Banana - Sounds like a decent show, Candy Gun has a perfect feel for a show opener. The song alllllllso rules and it's probably one of my favorites of this album. 4.1
2. Ash Statues - Shade Empire - God damn that's a late 2000's early 2010's album cover if I've ever seen on. Has a grandiose feel in the beginning, thought it was gonna be power metal. It's more like symphonic... death metal? This actually reminds me a lot of Dethklok. It's okay I suppose, not really into this type of metal at all, it would fit a low budget Game of Thrones or Vikings show or something.2.5
3. Green Typewriters - The Olivia Tremor Control - Neat show idea. I can kind of see how this would fit. Anyway, this is like a minute long and I fuuuucking love it. I might have to listen to this entire album, cause this is too intriguing. 3.6
4. Golden Threads From the Sun - Yndi Halda - What I really love about this idea is this show's theme song breaking from the idea of an epic grandiose theme for a fantasy or mythological show. I like the idea of it being more somber, more gentle and introspective than anything. That being said I could spot many points that would work wonderfully for the show throughout the 15 minute runtime. I never paid much attention to Yndi Halda in my post-rock phase and I see now that was a grave mistake on my part. 4.2
5. Dream of a Witches' Sabbath - Hector Berlioz - I don't know if I would watch it, but it sounds like a whimsical idea. I am imagining it in the animation of Wakfu, and I feel like that would be a nice somewhat popular niche show. The song itself is nice, I respect the craft but there's not much grabbing my attention. 3
6. I Like Food - Descendents - I would watch the fuuuuck out of this show. Perfect song for a perfect show idea. 3.5

05.20.20 | 7. The Face You Don't Recognise - James Joys - I think this is the first song here that the show description made the song feel even better than it already was. The song itself is beautiful and simple--while reading the description I got shivers because I could picture it so clearly. I would absolutely love to watch this show and probably bawl. 3.7
8. Boys Peel Out - Mercury Rev - This sounds like a sci-fi channel show, but one of the not bad ones. The song is pretty weird, a bit plain, but I like it enough and it fits the show pretty well. 3.1
9. The Man Behind the Mask - Alice Cooper - The show sounds more like a Bate's Motel style remake than a cheesy dumb slasher. Which I guess is dumb because Friday the 13th is a cheesy dumb slasher. Which also fits this song because this song is dumb as fuck. I'm surprised I never heard it in high school to be honest, and I have a lot of conflicting feelings about it. It is an awful song, but it is also sorta fun. uhhh 2.8
10. Lostfound - Francis Harris - Already I am imagining a sort of Samurai Champloo style opening with panning shots of silhouettes on sunsets, harsh contrasts. Aesthetically pleasing. This song is NOT getting the love it deserves. I thought the vocals were samples at first, but evidently they are not. I love, love her voice. The beat is extraordinarily simple but hypnotic. The last couple minutes of this song elevate this song. 4.2 |

05.20.20 | 5. Berlioz - Dream Of A Witches Sabbath: Yeah, this would work for an alternative history piece, can see this being gloriously kitsch in a potentially fun way. I get Good Omens vibes. As for the piece...not sure how much I'd care for it as a standalone, felt it went through various melodramatic motions 2.5/5
6. Descendents - I Like Food: 5/5 show idea, song is what it is lol. I guess have a 3.5/5 for conciseness.
7. James Joys - The Face You Don't Recognise: Interesting premise. I'm on board with this, but think the track would work best as an end credits theme; the section you indicated is a very morose opening. The track's alright, but I found my enjoyment of it so contingent on context that I'm gonna knock a couple of marks off. 3.5/5
8. Mercury Rev - Boys Peel Out: Damn, haven't listened to this album in absolutely forever. It ain't exactly a highlight. Can sortof see this working for the theme, but it feels too listless to open a show. Maybe it'd work as some early episode score, idk. 3/5
9. Alice Cooper - He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask): Yeah lol even by the standards of Friday 13th fanfiction I can't take this seriously...and what's the point of Friday 13th fanfic if it's not at least a little bit scary? 2.3/5
10. Francis Harris - Lostfound: Thought her voice was a bit of an unlikely fit, but in a good way. Liking this quite a but, can't see it as an intro theme but I dig it enough that who cares 3.7/5
11. Julian Casablancas+The Voidz - Dare I Care: Fuck this band and its obnoxious look-what-i-can-do fauxnoise overproduced infantile garbage. I wanna snap that guitar tone like a toothpick. Of course Ars likes this. Probably one of the better songs on the album idk. Would probably work for sci-fi. Literally the Mars Volta for hipsters who prefer lattes to acid. 1.7/5
12. Monolake - Television Tower: I needed this after that dreadful Voidz song; Trif Monolake recs are always going to be good. This is very good. Bit more melodic than the other stuff I've heard from him; it would work for a range of shows tbh, smol animal nature doc sounds good. 05.22.20 | Stephen Taranto - Nice synth opening. Way to start me out in a good mood. 8-minute-plus long track, though, and I always feel disappointed when a song gets off to a good start and then I gradually realize it's going to be all instrumental. It's like, "Hey, nice HALF a song! Too bad you didn't finish it." What's there is excellent - this guy can really play guitar. I don't know. 3.2, I guess. Getting a little jazzy towards the end. That always puts it in danger of point deductions with me. I'll leave it 3.2 I guess. But it could have been so much higher. |

05.25.20 | "Somewhere a Judge"
This is pretty nice sounding indie rock. Nothing special, but easy to listen to.
3.4/5
"Kill V. Maim"
Did she just growl over synth-pop? Why is she trying to sound so cutesy? I mean she's kinda unique, but only because no one else wants their songs to sound this awful. She legit sounds like a cross between a hamster and Lil from Rugrats. I'M TALKING LIKE A BABY BUT GROWL! This song is the physical manifestation of the "owo bites you" meme.

05.25.20 | "Anarchy Burger"
This is hardcore anarcho-punk, what else is there to say? "Hold the Government" is pretty funny. Hard to hate.
3.5/5
"Ken Tavr"
Fairly ambient opening so far. This is pretty chill, and it's certainly building up to something. Yup, this is pleasant, but nothing really gripping. Kinda like good background music to chill to?
3.4/5
"I Lost Something in the Hills"
This is pretty. It sounds very 70s, but is from 2006? OH wait this IS from the 70s, but wasn't released on an album til 2006? That's neat, it's like a "Sugarman" Rodriguez type scenario. The song itself is pretty simple, and not exactly unique. I like it more than I'd expect from "just a singer and their guitar" type music.
3.6/5
"Grave"
This is so generic and not even pleasant. In fact, I'm already bored of it, and it hasn't even reached 2 minutes. Boring love rock ballad with boring vocals, boring guitar, boring lyrics, boring drums, and boring bass. YAY.
2.5/5
"Asmr Para Ti"
It sounds like typical shoegaze with vocals sung in Spanish as the only big standout quality. Like legit, this reminds me of Only Shallow by My Bloody Valentine, but I guess less chaotic, and with higher production. Not something I care to hear again, but not bad I guess.
2.6/5
"Not Enough Violence"
Now it's time for fish to redeem himself for picking the worst Song of the Month. Lo-fi psych stuff, eh? I like some of the stuff in that scene, but I'm a bit green when it comes to its breadth. This is more on the 80s side of that and I guess I strongly prefer the more 60s sounding side. I mean now it makes me think of Bauhaus... weird. I can't say I love this.

ArsMoriendi
05.25.20 | "Pixel Heart: Celestial"
This is just guitar wankery. Legit 4 mins in and it's still just guitar wankery. I forgot I was even listening to this after a while. God this is just like nothing.
2.3/5
"J1407B"
Spacey, simple, and relaxing. Not much else to say. Pretty decent.
3.3/5
"Heaps of Sheeps"
WAIT I KNOW THIS SONG, my friend back in college sophomore year adored this song and it was the first time I'd ever heard of Robert Wyatt. I, of course, decided to check Rock Bottom and Ruth is Stranger Than Richard instead, but I still always liked this song quite considerably. This song feels so unique. A weird relic of electronic rock from a man who likes working with weird time structures, but isn't into wankery. "Sad prog" I guess you could call it. I should check this album.
4.2/5
"Baphomet's Throne"
Industrial metal? I somehow manage to hate extreme Industrial metal less than other extreme metal takes. Maybe because the industrial elements make it somehow sound less like drudgery? I mean, I still don't LIKE this at all, but it's somehow really easy to tolerate.

05.26.20 | "Anarchy Burger" - It was okay. The bass player is really good! 2.7
"Ken Tavr" - Very chill stuff, maybe I'd dig it more if it'd be full instrumental. Best Potsy rec in a while. 3.3
"Ubu Noir" - This track doesn't stand very well on its own, tbh. I really want to check out Coil for a while - but I hope they sound much better than this. 2.0
"I Lost Something in the Hills" - Not my thing, sorry. 2.5
"Grave" - Released last year?? Someone should tell them that the 2000s are over, haha! Anyway it was fine, reminds me when the little me used to love nu-metal and other stuff... nostalgic vibes. 3.1
"Asmr Para Ti" - Even the first second screamed: "this is going to be good". It was a bit long, but I liked it. 3.4
"Not Enough Violence" - Hmmmmmmm. No. 2.0
"Pixel Heart: Celestial" - I'm not hooked by the theme. I got Rings Of Saturn vibes from the song, but the synths are super annoying and this contains way too much djent... 2.5
"J1407B" - Maaaan, what is this mixing?? The left side is much louder and that drum is placed totally on that side... that's chaotic evil behaviour. Otherwise this track is pretty chill, but this mix... AHHH. 2.7
"Heaps of Sheeps" - I like the theme, I'd totally watch that show. The song is kinda alright, maybe a little bit too long... but matches to the theme perfectly. 2.7 |

Ash Statues: Don't know the book you're referring to Scheumke but I could easily see this as a theme for something epic. Vocals are a little average to me, but the sweeping orchestrations work nicely. 3.0
Green Typewriters: Cool cool cool, this would work nicely, it's a fun song too! The spooky ending seems to fit the story arc very well. 4.0
Golden Threads Of The Sun: Oooh that sounds like an awesome idea, especially the third season! Theme would be fitting I think, the violins and the mood do indeed fit the story. 3.2

05.26.20 | 1. Candy Gun - enjoyable as a form of distraction but not very melodic and just scrappy when you really get down to it, prob would actually work best employed as theme music or soundtrack music so good pick. [3.5]
2. Ash Statues - pretty good grumbly stuff, also prob does the job of telling me the show wouldn't be quite my thing, so good pick [3.5]
3. Green Typewriters - I quite like this band but then also their faintly psychedelic Beatles-y thing I find keeps me at arms length too [3.5]
4. Golden Threads - ok post-rock, this is the month of [3.5] |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.26.20 | "not very melodic and just scrappy when you really get down to it"
don't think i've gatekept anything today yet - both extremely incorrect. song is obvs more about timbre, rhythm and dynamics in that order, so that complaint kinda misses the point to begin with, but also it has melodic value in plain sight (esp in the intro) - what more does it need, a full-one harmonised guitar solo? the layering and pacing are far too precisely executed to come anything close to scrappiness. any live video will confirm as much, but the bottom line is you don't pull off those changes of pace + dynamics without a keen sense of focus. if anything, my biggest gripe with that track/album is that it ain't scrappy enough tbh, band are at their best with more of a raw edge |

05.26.20 | 5. Classical music - classical music...isn't allowed? [3]
6. I Like Food - from the sublime to the ridiculous, it's skate punk'y stuff, 'It means nothing to me...oh Vienna' [2.5]
7. The Face You Don't - the music is slightly 'In Rainbows'ish and I like the vocals, excellent atmospheric offering, good theme music [4]

05.26.20 | STRFKR - Very British sounding intro. Surprised this is an American band. Kind of bouncy. Doesn't do much but repeat that intro again and again with a few slightly different twists, but there's something appealing about it. 3.3. |

05.27.20 | 11. Dare I Care - The Voidz - I am already surprised I like this. I never liked anything else I heard by this band, but I dig this by two minutes in. I really went into this expecting to be annoyed. This is really good. 3.7
12. Television Tower - Monolake - Yeah this is super fitting. I can see insects going about to this song. I'd probably watch it, it sounds really interesting. This is yet another electronic song presented by sotd that really gets to me. I'm finding that I dig techno and downtempo stuff a lot. 3.6
13. Somewhere a Judge - Hop Along - Sounds like a Netflix show that would play a preview each time I open up the app and leave it on idle. That being said I would watch it purely because this song is the intro song. One of my favorite albums ever and one of the better songs on the album. 4.4
14. Kill V Maim - Grimes - Not huge on the more bombastic Grimes songs, cause they can get a biiiiit much. But it's alright. 2.8
15. Anarchy Burger - The Vandals - I mean this is the logical conclusion to this show. This song is such a throwback to when I was first starting to get into punk 3.6
16. Ken Tvar - ishome - Fitting closer considering the opener. It's chill and cool. 3.5
17. Ubu Noir - Coil - ah huh. I don't really see this song fitting the show very much at all, but oh well. I'm not too well versed on Coil, but this is probably the least interesting song I've heard by them. I can see it working for some kind of
18. I Lost Something in the Hills - Sibylle Baier - This sounds so aged in the best ways. Perfect closer for the show, once again. I don't really know what to say at this point, this has been one of the strongest song of the days in a while. 3.4
19. Grave - Reality Suite - I recently finished Silent Hill 2 for the first time, the intro instrumentals reminded me a lot of Akira Yamaoka. That definitely did not last too long though. For the pitched show, I wouldn't really be surprised that this is the closing credits, buuuuut I do not care for those vocals, and I downright hate that chorus. 1.9
20. Triangulo de Amor Bizarro - Asmr para Ti - This kinda strikes me as something in an anime. I like the show idea, and I do quite like this song. it's very pleasant 3.3 |

Slow, ominously picked guitar. 7 minutes in, though, and I notice my mind has been wandering. Some nice playing going on, but the song itself isn't that interesting. 2.8 |

05.28.20 | 13. Bark Your Head Off, Dog
As a song: I find Hop Along's singer very endearing. I don't always love their instrumentals but they are diet-dec and she is charismatic enough to pretty much carry everything they do.
As a theme: I guess it depends on the intended tone of your show. Seems a bit light hearted for a show about suicide unless that's kind of the point, in which case i could see it too, albeit from an entirely different angle.

05.28.20 | "Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second"
The percussion caught my ears immediately. This certainly has a pleasant sound to it. I do think that if there's any future in rock, it's mostly in light indie-pop rock. The vocals seem to take a backseat to the instrumentation, which is actually refreshing for indie-pop (and pop in general.) It's a bit aimless overall, but I actually quite like it. I could see myself getting into more by these guys maybe.
4/5
"Into The Everflow"
Not that I'm judging these based off of the theme, but this sounded like it'd be one of those super edgy shows who takes itself way too seriously. Now onto the song: this is metal alright. Some of that "epic world ending" metal. Yup it fits the theme, but man is it boring and cheesy. Oh my god it's finally over. Good.
2.3/5
"Theme for the Eulipions"
Stripped down so far. Just a woman narrating over some harmonica. Okay so far. Now that the bass, piano, and sax have come in, it's smooth as hell, except the sax which is super flashy. I like the backup singers in the background. I can't say this stands out as much as I want it to, but it's entertaining. Actually, I take that back, it's changing from section to section now and progressing itself. Any time it could get boring, it decides to change. Pretty nice.

05.29.20 | Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Quiet harmonica and crowd noise. Now some lady talking. I think I'm at dinner theater. Jazz - not my favorite, but at least it's smooth jazz. So far. Uh oh. He's threatening to go a little more free form. Kill me. Now piano. Vocals start 7 minutes in. Now the annoying lady is talking again. I don't know. 2.8

I Lost Something In the Hills - this is certain pretty. Definitely fits the theme well. the melodies aren't getting through to me though, i was quite bored. 2.8

05.30.20 | Ubu Noir: Mega dystopian yeah. Weird track, but I love how some structure can be made out here after it goes on for a while. 3.3
I Lost Something In The Hills: Yes. Fitting too. Like her voice. Joni-ish of course. That's always a good thing in my book. Nicely sad too. 3.5
Grave: Would totally work, yes. So mega 90s, how was this released last year? Kind of dig this haha! A silly poppy rock song. Don't like the drum sound at all sadly. 3.5
Asmr Para Ti: Song is super nice Johnny. Nice sentiment too, and it has the perfect feeling for what you describe here. L O V E the guitars here, nice wall of sound that isn't overpolished. 4.0

Heaps Of Sheeps: Hmmmm, that beat is super nice. Instrumentation is cool too. Yup, how could I have expected otherwise zak? Love it. Some Beatles warmth to it. Soul. The 90s are truly the best decade. Going on my list! Perfect match with that show too. 4.0
Baphomet's Throne: Samael's best album. Nicely dirty sound, but polished too in a way. Love the vibe. 4.0
Rawnald Gregory Erickson II: Beautifully described tectactoe, this totally fits the cartoonish, silly but melancholic, bittersweet vibe I think you're going for. The staccatoness of this works very well with that too. 3.5 |

05.30.20 | Into The Everflow: This does fit the subject matter, but I don't really like it. The vox especially. I do like how it doesn't go into full chugga chugga mode too often though. 2.3
Theme For The Eulipions: Love the idea, this track fits it perfectly too AND is good on its own too. The series reminds me a little of Cowboy Bebop in a way (must be the jazz and the crime and the not being at all affected or impressed by the world, Spike). Very cool. 4.0
You're Dead: Another double whammy, both the series idea and the song on its own are cool. Very much so. Love the track. Going to look into this lady. One of the nicest finds this month! 4.2
Good News: Another nice idea, and the song fits the behind-the-scenes vibe of a news-source (paper? tv channel?) because it is quieter than expected at first. Lovely track, don't know this dude but this is cool. 3.9
Rainbow Hiccups: Yes, this fits our internal world at about this stage perfectly. Chaotic, neurotic, yet strangely calm and submerged in weirdness. 3.6 |

05.31.20 | Mac Miller - The music is a little jaunty. The singer sounds like a guy who lives on a park bench. Not terrible, but not really doing anything for me. 2.8

"Good News"
I don't like his mumbly voice at all. Musically this is pretty boring too. I guess I've grown used to the voice a bit, but this music is like elevator music man. Do I consider this piano outro for part of my rating? It's pretty bland too.

05.31.20 | 1. “Candy Gun” by Melt-Banana - This song is absolutely nuts, along with the rest of the album, and it goes well with sci-fi imagery. This would be good for an animated series. 3.8/5
2. “Ash Statues” by Omega Arcane - A very apt choice for a high fantasy series. There are lots of moments in this track that work for this concept. However, it does not make me that excited to watch a show; there’s a certain cheese to it that would make a whole show seem overwhelming. 3.1/5
3. “Green Typewriters” by The Olivia Tremor Control - Interesting song choice for an interesting concept, though I’m not sure I see the two working together unless it’s meant to be sarcastic? The tone of the track versus the shots of dystopian New York doesn’t work for me. I guess I’m numb to convention, and this sounds too outside the box. 2.8/5
4. “Golden Threads of the Sun” by Yndi Halda - Like the previous song, this song doesn’t match the concept to my ears and eyes, and that effects my overall rating on the song. Actually, this might go better to shots of dystopian NY (like #3) better than The Iliad. 2.7/5
5. “Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath” by Hector Berlioz - I’m not totally familiar with steampunk except for Bioshock Infinite (lol is that even steampunk?) but I kind of have an idea of what you’re trying to get across. It sounds cool, but the theme song is kinda bleh to me. I listen to a lot of classical and there are more engaging choices that would match your concept. 3/5 |
deathofasalesman
05.31.20 | 6. “I Like Food” by Descendents - I’m a sucker for Descendents. This show sounds like something someone would come up directly after listening to this song, so it works. It doesn’t sound that tasty for a show about food, unless you have some renowned punk chefs doing the cooking and not just some crusty on the street. 3.7/5
7. “The Face You Don’t Recognize” by James Joys - Very unique and introspective-sounding. I can tell this would be a show with a lot of twists, dealing with psychological themes, guilt, etc. I can hear that from the theme alone and that’s a sign of a great song. 4.1/5
8. “Boys Peel Out” by Mercury Rev - Cooky track for a real zany idea. I can see this having a darkly comedic edge to it with a theme like this, which makes it more interesting than the serious, Black Mirror-esque concept lends itself to be. 3.3/5
9. “He’s Back: The Man Behind the Mask” by Alice Cooper - Not sure how to feel about this. The song is a theme track already for Friday the 13th Part VI. Kinda sours the theme/concept for me, although a Friday the 13th -based show would be cool in the right hands. 2.6/5
10. “Lostfound” by Francis Harris - After looking at images of Pretty Deadly, the track meshes well with what I’m seeing. I can definitely see this as the understated score for an extravagant-looking series. The modern edge to it also makes for an interesting show. 4.2/5 |

05.31.20 | "Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second" - Nah. 2.5 The show sounds kinda interesting, though.
"Into the Everflow" - This theme would make a sick D&D story too. I didn't like the song, though... like a watered down Tool, or idk. 2.2
"Theme for the Eulipions" - A story of a modern troubadour, or...? I felt this song never wants to start for real, but the rest is some really-really nice jazz! Cozy. Have a 3.8
"You're Dead" - So the theme is every german-american teen horror story, ever? But this song is an absolutely perfect choice, I can imagine a scene where they're travelling in a van to the woods, having fun but with no sound, just this song playing... the song itself is kinda alright, but I'll give it some bonus since I think it was an excellent pick for the theme. 3.1
"Good News" - Not really my theme, but with some plit twists it could be great though. The song presented those vibes I hoped for, but well... I don't think it is any good, though... (sorry ian!!!) 2.4
"Rainbow Hiccups" - It is very joecore, nice and chill. The "bubbling sound" is a bit annoying... 2.9 |

06.02.20 | 11. “Dare I Care” by The Voidz - The song certainly fits the mood of a sci-fi show about aliens. I would like to hear more about the plot but I get why you’re not keen on details. I would definitely check out a show with this theme song as it seems complex. - 4/5
12. “Television Tower” by Monolake - This track with macro shots of insects would blow my mind… on acid. So would of a lot of other things but this in particular. I may not watch an entire series on tiny invertebrates but I’d certainly check out an episode or two. - 4.1/5
13. “Somewhere a Judge” by Hop Along - I would watch a show with Frances Quinlan singing the theme song, no contest. Show feels a little like Shameless and 12 Reasons Why. As long as it doesn’t sensationalize mental illness and just show what it is, I could get behind this show. 4/5
14. “Kill V. Maim” by Grimes - Can’t take this one too seriously, so I’ll just rate it at face value. Song sounds like a bad commercial for shampoo. Show idea is pretty vague. 1.6/5
15. “Anarchy Burger” by The Vandals - There’s better punk food songs than this. Doesn’t feel like a closer to me, idk. 2.8/5
16. “Ken Tavr” by Ishome - Awesome. Just awesome. If the ending of an episode was really good, this song would give me chills on top of that. 4.8/5 (yeah better than the intro)
17. “Ubu Noir” by Coil - This is so much better than the intro! This is a track I can get behind. Good choice for a closer. Something that matches the tone of this, but a little more upbeat, would make a good intro. Idk why I’m thinking of Tom Waits but eh, you be the judge. 4.3/5
18. “I Lost Something in the Hills” by Sibylle Baier - Very cool choice. Somber and quiet. The song deals with loss which relates to your theme. I can see this playing at the end of a few episodes, maybe not all of them. Still great. 3.9/5
19. “Grave” by Reality Suite - The tone is just way off for me to consider this for a Friday the 13th show. I would question what I just saw, unless it was made by Ryan Murphy, for some reason. Not a bad song but it does not scream Jason to me. 2.6/5
20. “Asmr Para Ti” by oɹɹɐzıqɹoɯɐǝpolnƃuɐıɹʇ - This still gives me Shameless vibes, even though you mentioned Twin Peaks. I would definitely feel cathartic hearing this at the end of a tough episode. 4/5 |

Not Enough Violence - Really hated this album when it came out but i'm curious to hear this song again. Still not a fan. I don't like his voice and the noisy guitars 2.3
Pixel Heart - Pretty nice opening guitar melody. the rest is okay but i'm generally not much into this kind of technical core music. this does have more melody as lot of other stuff in that genre so i'll give it credit for that. 3.3
Slood - I can vibe with this. this sounds really cool. 3.5
Heaps of Sheeps - this is pretty nice 3.0
Baphomet's Throne - has a bit of a orchestral epic intro that i dig. i'm not digging it as much a combination with the black metal parts. the riffs are pretty nice though. 3.1

3. Green Typewriters - 2.6 - Not convinced it suits your show idea
4. Golden Thread of the Sun - 3.3 - I like the track and think it would work well as a theme, just not necessarily for something shooting for 'epic'
5. Dream of a Witches Sabbath - 3.0 - Perhaps too recognisable to work well as a theme but I'd have to hear it mixed with O Fortuna to have a proper grasp
6. I Like Food - 3.6 - Succinct and basically perfect for your show
