Favourite Songs (one per album)
1Can
Future Days

Bel Air -
Utterly ahead of its time and a mammoth amount of music and noisy chaos. It all works though, one of the most thrilling rides you can have.
2Gil Scott-Heron
Pieces of a Man

When You Are Who You Are -
A sentiment that should be more universal. Rings true, like all good music.
3Radiohead
A Moon Shaped Pool

Daydreaming -
...This song brought me back into making music. Reminded me there's still magic in it, it's that good.
4Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
Push The Sky Away

Push The Sky Away -
This one explains itself better than I can.
5Dirty Three
Ocean Songs

The Restless Waves -
This song captures what's it's like to be out at sea. That careening movement.
6The National
Alligator

Secret Meeting -
I think this is my favourite album opener. There's something triumphant about it that I really dig.. It amps me up, maybe that's weird but whatever it's an amazing song.
7Einsturzende Neubauten
Alles in Allem

Alles In Allem -
I do think I'm probably a bit biased towards this one. But still, the simplicity of it and the wonderful bass coupled with the wordplay makes for a brilliant song.
8David Bowie
Blackstar

Lazarus -
A beautiful swan song of an album. The music video for Lazarus is still one of the greatest videos I've ever seen and the song is incredible.
9Aphex Twin
Selected Ambient Works 85-92

Xtal/Heliosphan -
I'm going to cheat on this one, my rationale is that these two songs have completely different moods but are equally as effective at showcasing them. Xtal is a beautiful calm symphony of soft pulses that ease while Heliosphan is a tinny but not unpleasant jittery showcase of mild triumph. I love them both equally and can't make my mind up.
10Aphex Twin
Selected Ambient Works Volume II

Stone In Focus -
While Rhubarb and Lichen are beautiful calm tracks that exude great warmth, there's something about this frequency that shatters right through the core of your soul that I find incredible to experience. This is an amazing song.
11Ichiko Aoba
Windswept Adan

Dawn Over The Adan -
There's something about the way this song wanders that is captivating. You're very present in a special sunrise, the kind of sunrise you rarely see yet if you're lucky on a particularly beautiful day in pure nature you can still experience. It's a grand song.
12PJ Harvey
Let England Shake

Let England Shake -
I think PJ Harvey's strongest and most important quality as a musician is her confidence. There's a boldness in everything she does. Even though she shifts like a chameleon album to album and sometimes she doesn't pull off what she's doing, songs and albums like this are exceptional examples of how this quality can create great work. It's a really strange song that's my favourite by her.
13Burial
Untrue

Archangel -
I think this one speaks for itself. A masterwork in sampling.
14DJ Shadow
Endtroducing.....

What Does Your Soul Look Like (Pt. 1 / Blue Sky Revisit) -
It's difficult to pick a favourite from this one. There are so many great tracks on here, I'm going with this one. Even though it's not the most technical that he's done, I love the way it grooves along.
15Leonard Cohen
Songs of Leonard Cohen

Suzanne -
Melancholic, I rarely listen to this one. But when I do it's definitely special.
16The Moldy Peaches
The Moldy Peaches

Jorge Regula -
: )
17Battles
Mirrored

Tonto -
There's something that happens at the 2:47 point that still astounds me. The guitars and drums reach this perfect driven moment. Atlas is a very close 2nd.
18Bob Marley and The Wailers
Legend

Three Little Birds -
Albums and songs like this bring people together. Tobacco, coffee, humid jungle and good vibes. Life is good.
19Radiohead
Kid A

How To Disappear Completely -
This was and still is the greatest song I've ever heard. I don't play it a lot because it's a very particular mood & in a way, very personal as well. Everyone has that one song that changes their life & this is mine. While Daydreaming helped bring me back into music & start my career, this was the first song that really took me on that journey & seeing that music could go beyond anything you could ever imagine.
20The Doors
The Doors

The End -
This song took me on a wild wild journey, involving a giant golden Pharaoh's eye replacing the sun.
21Brian Eno
Another Green World

Sombre Reptiles -
Eno's made a lot of great tracks, this one's always stood out for me though. It's like you're in some kind of gallery filled with reptiles.
22Koji Kondo
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask OST

Song of Healing -
This song is one of those ones that stays with you long after you've heard it, that's when you know it's a good song. This was one of the first ones I worked out how to play on piano decades ago now... I can't read music, but if I love a song I'll discover how to play it. I didn't really play any of the musical instruments available until something about this song struck a chord. It's got a powerful message within it & it's incredible.
23Nick Cave and Warren Ellis
White Lunar

Sorya Market -
There are a lot of really incredible pieces created by this duo, wonderful cinematic masterpieces. I stumbled across this song for White Lunar and it's always stuck with me. It's just one of the handful of masterpieces these two have created.
24Nina Simone
Live at Montreux - 1976

Stars/Feelings -
People often like to label artists, calling them 'raw' or something. Nina Simone is truly transcendent of those kinds of titles. She understands much about the world, the unfair struggles of oppression, the tough strength you need to hold. It's hard to find someone that matches Nina Simone in that respect. She was brilliant & a mighty source of inspiration.
25AFX
Orphans

28 organ -
While this LP is really good as well, this song is one of his best. Yet there's nowhere you can find it, it kind've just appeared on soundcloud & is now on youtube. It's annoying in a way because it is such a good track, there's some seriously good melodic work happening here, if you can find the track check it out, it's called 28 organ.
