| Pearl Jam Ranked
Went on a Pearl Jam journey this year and this is what I found on the other side | 1 | | Pearl Jam Vs.
Hands down their best for me. The raw, punk energy... The Ed sings "five against one" just makes you feel all the rage and rebellion he was trying to incite throughout the record. It's just perfect. | 2 | | Pearl Jam Yield
This was one of the mid-era records that really got to me. I hardly knew any song that well in this one and oh was I pleasantly surprised. The best batch of songs McCready ever got and the album where I think they best managed to sound like a straightforward rock band. | 3 | | Pearl Jam Ten
No need to say anything, I guess | 4 | | Pearl Jam No Code
Just like Yield, I'd not paid much attention to this one for years and man... was I slapped in the face hard for being such a twat. I don't think this one has god-level songs like pretty much every album of theirs, but there's something about the meandering, kinda aimless vibe of this record that makes me love it so much. (And Mankind is awesome) | 5 | | Pearl Jam Vitalogy
It's such a monster of an album... until we get to Bugs. And then we have Satan's Bed and Better Man! But then Aye Davanite... Immortality... and fuckin Stupid Mop. It's a god-tier record, but those songs just kill it for me every time. I do consider it a kind of Holy Trinity like most PJ fans - it's certainly a masterpiece and a pinnacle in terms of a grungey PJ album, but it's deeply flawed in providing me the fluidity the previous records do, even if some of their tracks aren't on the same level of Spin the Black Circle (Top 5 song for me, probably), Last Exit or Tremor Christ. | 6 | | Pearl Jam Pearl Jam
Perhaps their most controversial album? I've always loved Life Wasted and World Wide Suicide, they were the songs that got me hooked to Pearl Jam along with Do the Evolution. Of course I'd heard Even Flow, Alive and Black, but Avocado came out about the time I was more serious about music and so it gets a little slack. It's a great album, but it's the start of the not-as-good tier of the list. | 7 | | Pearl Jam Backspacer
Wow, another fast, punk, straightforward record! Only this time it's kinda... bland, somehow. It's got the intention, it's got the energy, but the sound of it is lifeless. Again, it came out in 2009 and it was right in the middle of my teens and I loved it deeply, the first PJ album I was following the release and all. Hate Force of Nature and Unthought Unknown, could do without The End... The A-side is killer, though. | 8 | | Pearl Jam Gigaton
It's been stuck here because of recency bias for a long time and I think it's still a safe spot for a ranking. It's a monstrous comeback after BS and LB, and I like it much more than Binaural and RA, so there. I think it also sits above Backspacer, but I'm gonna leave it here until it has better stood the test of time. Dance of the Clairvoyants, Quick Escape and Whoever Said are fantastic! | 9 | | Pearl Jam Binaural
I love Evacuation, Breakerfall and Nothing as it Seems. I fucking love them. But the rest of the album doesn't do it for me the same way these ones do and I think it drags a lot, even if it all sounds really great production-wise. | 10 | | Pearl Jam Lightning Bolt
This one sucks. Oh man, it sucks. It's got the worse production of all their records and probably some of their worst songs. It always leaves a bad taste in my mouth everytime I hear it, but it sill has some enjoyable songs: I really like Getaway (such a fun bassline to play), Infallible and Let the Records Play. On the other hand, I don't think there's any song of theirs I hate more than Sirens, oh my freaking god. Even Stupid Mop I can passively despise while not really paying attention to it, but Sirens just makes me mad. | 11 | | Pearl Jam Riot Act
This one is kinda funny for me because I don't think it's their worst record in terms of production, composition or anything like that, it's just the record I haven't been able to develop any kind of bond with. Sure LB is bad, but I really like the songs I don't hate. hahaha But with Riot Act I can say I really enjoy the opener and You Are and... that's it. It's murky, depressing and unfortunately - since most PJ fans give a much better appraisal of this album - sits right down on the bottom of my ranking. | |

05.29.20 | Nice | LouBreed
05.29.20 | People hate Bugs so much. Personally I think its fun. | JDubb
05.29.20 | From living the releases of these albums, I have less appreciation for the early albums (except for Ten, it is classic), and more for Binaural and Riot Act. Despise Yield, what a fan pleaser. The Avacodo album was great. Backspace and Lightning Bolt could have been much better. No Code is a lost gem. | JDubb
05.29.20 | As good as Vs and vitalogy were at the time, I may spew if I hear Daughter, Elderly Woman..., nothing man, Better man, and the like one more time | grannypantys
05.30.20 | I agree with a lot of this but would switch lightning bolt and backspacer |
