10.08.20 | Thank You Scientist. They are a really good prog rock/jazz fusion band. |
zakalwe
10.08.20 | This is all absolute rot. Flush it. |
Alexagon
10.08.20 | @Zac124 I've tried to get into them but can't seem to. Maybe it's the vocals, I'm not sure. |
Alexagon
10.08.20 | @zakalwe Why even bother commenting if you're going to be rude? Just leave. |
hel9000
10.08.20 | Wax On Radio maybe. They have one album and I remember it being alright |
DopeFiend
10.08.20 | Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime
Failure - Fantastic Planet
Unwound - New Plastic Ideas
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation |
SlothcoreSam
10.08.20 | Get Dead - Dancing with the Curse. It's out tomorrow
|
Rolling Girl
10.08.20 | Fair To Midland
Sinew - Pilots of a New Sky
Anathema - Weather Systems
Iamthemorning - ~
Forrest Day
The Gathering - Souvenirs
The Gentle Storm
Dredg - Catch Without Arms
The Enid - Invicta
Some good shit on this list. |
Ecnalzen
10.09.20 | Nice, I really like a good portion of stuff here
Yeah, usually ppls turn off with Thank You Scientist is the vocals. I kinda love his singing but I can get why others wouldn't take to it |
Alexagon
10.09.20 | @Ecnalzen Do you have any suggestions based on the similar things you like? |
Ecnalzen
10.09.20 | Your 3 for AitA makes me sad. Anyway, after I saw someone rec TYS that was the only I could think of for some reason, ha ha. I am stirring up some stuff methinks (hopefully albums you haven't heard since it looks like you are in the beginnings of rating stuff)
Well... for Vheissu styled Thrice(post rockish phxc), I would say maybe try:
A Hope for Home - Realis
Hopesfall - Satellite Years/Magnetic North
Take One Car - It's Going to Be a Nice Day
O'Brother - Garden Window
As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep
ourfathers. - Movements
For Arcane Roots earlier stuff (mathy and/or proggish phxc):
Apollo - We Must be Feeling the Full Moon
I am Abomination - Let the Future Tell the Truth
Bats - Red Tooth and Claw
Black Peaks - All That Divides
Children of Nova - Complexity of Light
Lower Definition - Greatest of All Lost Arts
Night Verses - Lift Your Existence/From the Gallery of Sleep (NV could probs go with Thrice comparisons, too)
We the Wild - From the Cities We Fled
Marmozets - The Weird And Wonderful Marmozets
Reuben - Racecar is Racecar Backwards
For TREOS (haven't heard a whole lot like them out there, but these might kinda sorta do it)
Elora Donan - In the Room Up There
Fightstar - Grand Unification
Finch - Say Hello to Sunshine
For the Graduate... Hmm, let's try:
Slick Shoes - Rotation and Frequency
Autopilot Off - Make a Sound
Bayside - Walking Wounded
Deaf Havana - Fools and Worthless Liars
Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American
Midtown - Forget What You Know
Rufio - MCMLXXV
Search the City - A Fire So Big The Heavens Can See It |
Ecnalzen
10.09.20 | Oh wow, that's quite the block of text. My bad
I can't really think of anything for Rx Bandits, Brutus, Kindo and Dear Hunter at the moment... |
SlothcoreSam
10.09.20 | If you want something like Brutus, you should check
Cultdreams- Things That Hurt. Very similar vibe, and really underrated. |
Alexagon
10.09.20 | Thanks for the long list! I'll definitely check some of those out. Some of them I've already checked out. Unfortunately Apollo doesn't seem to be on Spotify, though. |
bloodshy
10.09.20 | Great list here! Maybe check
Idiot Pilot - Wolves
or
Idiot Pilot - Strange We Should Meet Here
just don't check their new album
also
Microwave - Death Is A Warm Blanket
is pretty great |
DamnVanne
10.09.20 | In:Aviate- 1985
Secret & Whisper- both albums
As Cities Burn- Come Now Sleep
Castevet- Summer Fences
The Safety Fire- Mouth of Swords
All of those are post hardcore, except Castevet, that fit your likes pretty well. Castevet would appeal to the emo bone that digs La Dispute
|
bloodshy
10.09.20 | damnvanne, i thought about recommending as cities burn too. the rest are good recs as well |
Alexagon
10.09.20 | @bloodshy I've actually listened to Idiot Pilot! I like only a small handful of their songs though. |
Alexagon
10.09.20 | @DamnVanne I enjoy 1985, and even just yesterday I tried out Secret and Whisper but only like Vanishings.
Could never get into As Cities Burn. Not sure why, just nothing stuck with me.
I'll check out the last rec. |
Ecnalzen
10.09.20 | Glad to! Hope you find some stuff you like in there.
Apollo was kind of a one and done (and a couple eps) and I don't think they got much recognition in their short time as a band so I guess I am not too surprised by that. I don't even remember how I found out about them, altho, it was probably on sput somehow
I didn't like As Cities Burn at all when I first heard them. I tried again recently and started taking more of a liking to them |
Sinternet
10.09.20 | weatherbox - american art
saosin - translating the name (assume you've heard this with circa up there but if not)
the jonbenet - the plot thickens
moros eros - jealous me was killed by curiosity
genghis tron - board up the house
horse the band - desperate living
|
Alexagon
10.09.20 | @Ecnalzen Any particular songs by ACB I should give a go? |
Cygnatti
10.09.20 | Title Fight - Floral Green
Turnover - Peripheral Vision |
Cygnatti
10.09.20 | 20 is a personal fav of mine, glad to see it on a listen after all these years |
evilford
10.09.20 | Alice in chains - jar of flies
Gorguts - discog
|
Alexagon
10.09.20 | @Cygnatti It's such a shame The Graduate didn't get bigger at all. |
Sinternet
10.09.20 | check fugazi |
evilford
10.09.20 | Check grotesque |
DamnVanne
10.09.20 | I didn’t care for As Cities Burn at first either. I vividly remember ripping on Empire one time.
That’s now my most beloved album of all |
DamnVanne
10.09.20 | Groteque fucking jams tho |
pollastrerostit
10.09.20 | Touche Amore, Defeater are of the post-hardcore wave of La Dispute
Spanish Love Songs, Basement more on the emo side of Brand New |
philbert08
10.09.20 | If you're a fan of Tree of Tongues, you'll probably like Job For a Cowboy's most recent album Suneater. Amazing versatile vocals, interesting song structures without constant breakdowns and guitar brilliance (they outgrew their pig sqealing garbage of years ago). No clean vocals btw, but give it a go |
philbert08
10.09.20 | And don't listen to zakalwe, you have excellent taste |
Deathconscious
10.09.20 | The Republic of Wolves - Shrine |
Deathconscious
10.09.20 | Also: shut the fuck up zak. |
Alexagon
10.09.20 | @philbert08 I'll give Job a go. I place huge importance on clean vocals but I won't rule it out. And thank you for the kind words.
@Deathconscious I tried to get into Republic but they just didn't hold my attention. I do like Spill, though. |
Ecnalzen
10.09.20 | My main issue with ACB is the vocals. I still don't think he is that great of a singer, but now I tend to listen more to the band, and kind of put him in the background, and take in the dreamy atmosphere they tend to create
Come Now Sleep is my only full listen I have given them, tho. I am planning on trying their debut soon to see what it's like
I really like This Is It, This Is It and Timothy from Come Now Sleep if you do want to give a particular song or two from them a listen again |
Ecnalzen
10.09.20 | I just thought of another post rocky album with a hints of phxc scattered around, if you want to add to the Thrice section of my list
My Epic - Yet |
Alexagon
10.09.20 | I've tried to get into My Epic. Their songs are a tad bit mellow for my tastes honestly. Decent sound and vocals though. Remind me of From Indian Lakes. |
DamnVanne
10.09.20 | You’re certainly right about ACBs singer. He isn’t anything to marvel at but he sure fits the music AND the lyrics really are the marvel here.
Your prerogative to check their debut, but I fucking loathe that one. It’s a different vocalist who I feel has some of the most grating harsh sounds in the game. It’s like a banshee. Him leaving was the best thing to ever happen to this band |
Alexagon
10.09.20 | He did come back for a few songs though right? |
DamnVanne
10.09.20 | Came back permanently. They have a new album with him doing vocals and my homeboy just playing guitar again. I’m not gonna listen to it tho |
Ecnalzen
10.10.20 | Well, shucks. To be fair, I really only like that one album from My Epic, tho. I wasn't into the one after that at all and I haven't heard anything else from them. Not familiar with From Indian Lakes
Well, I will most likely do the one after CNS, too, DamnVanne. I remember their comeback-ish album being somewhat panned on here so might not bother with it
Man, I am still trying to think of something that sounds like (Reign of) Kindo. I do love love most of their stuff, especially their debut. The only thing I could really think of so far was The Dear Hunter, but you already have them on here |
Rolling Girl
10.10.20 | I forgot to mention, Birdeatsbaby |
Alexagon
10.10.20 | Yeah, not able to find Kindo soundalikes. Doesn't necessarily have to be similar, but something someone would enjoy if they enjoy Kindo. |

10.10.20 | lol, this has taken a turn and I like it
These might be a stretch, but could work for Kindo-ish vibes:
As Tall As Lions - As Tall As Lions (super luscious alt/pop with great vocals, no jazz but I feel could draw some Kindo comparisons, maybe sorta)
Foals - What Went Down (probably same as above, chill alt/pop with a few rock tunes mixed in, too)
Snowmine - Laminate Pet Animal (similar to ATAL but a lotta bit weirder)
Jizue - Novel (inst, but still a wonderful jazzy little post rock album)
I have been clicking on their similar artists page and going down the rabbit hole of listening to random bands. I could use some more (Reign of) Kindo-ish music in my life. Still curious why they decided to drop the Reign of from their name |
