Paper Mache Dream Balloon

Quarters

Their most proggy album to date, the band tackles apocalyptic, Lovecraftian themes with spoken word and aggressive instrumentals. Infest the Rats' Nest
Yet another short bout of genre-hopping has the band playing...thrash metal? A couple cuts are lacking here but the rest of the album is just great King Gizz material with Stu sounding more aggressive and the distortion and heaviness turned up a notch. Would be the band's absolute best album if not for #1 by a hair. Long krauty tunes and everything else that makes King Gizzard great but done better than the rest. Spacey, unique, cohesive, polyrhythmic, and fantastic. Every tracks flows seamlessly into the next - wonderfully paced and masterfully executed. This is the band at the absolute peak of their abilities and what made me fall in love with them. | |

@Darius "psychedlic garage rock" is basically like a third of their albums but with a very distinct progressive and often experimental edge to it. they fuck around with microtones, instruments like harmonica, flute, and even Turkish horns, and can often be quite angular or irregular. they're also known for "genre-hopping" and doing single-album bouts with jazz, blues, thrash metal, and acoustic folk. 11.20.20 | Their sound’s more consistent than people give it credit for, all their albums are basically the Gizz sound wearing a new coat. A lot of stuttering sorta triplet rhythms, tom roll forward drummin’, Stu doing his breathy Stu thing, riding rhythms for all they’re worth | LeddSledd
