12.29.20 | Kinda cheated on 3 tbh, but couldn't think of any other |
Koris
12.29.20 | 7 Angels 7 Plagues - Jhazmyne's Lullaby (Album is metalcore, but the closer of the same name is a beautiful instrumental piano ballad) |
JKing92
12.29.20 | Do hidden tracks count?
If so, Stone Temple Pilots - "My Second Album" (hidden track on Purple). |
ian b
12.29.20 | Skyscraper by Touche Amore (feat. Julien Baker) off of Stage Four. album is melodic and cathartic screamo (for the most part), last track is a cleanly-sung, dreamy, indie-rock piece that climaxes into a full blown shoegaze portion as it ends, and cuts to the last voicemail Jeremy Bolm's mother left him before she died. absolutely ethereal, yet simultaneously haunting. |
zelenichajnik
12.29.20 | 1 sounds like an absolute riot. I'll have to give it a listen sometime.

aydross121
12.29.20 | @JKing92 I feel like hidden tracks are kinda cheating, those are usually odd songs meant to throw you off, but I'll add that one. |
YoYoMancuso
12.29.20 | Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies. Last song is basically country |
Colton
12.29.20 | Young Thug - Jeffery
last song isn't really rap at all it's some weird kinda dancehall stuff |
BAT
12.29.20 | 'drunk again' off reel big fish's 'cheer up' is allegedly a different band |
Prancer
12.29.20 | the dillinger escape plan - dissociation
album is mathcore, last song is.. an electronic ballad? |
conesmoke
12.29.20 | @yoyo,
As if swing on this is "basically country" |
Scoot
12.29.20 | 4 is one of the best piano songs i've ever heard |
Scoot
12.29.20 | off minor - the heat death of the universe
last track is just random acoustic noodling |
JohnnyoftheWell
12.29.20 | Melt-Banana - Fetch (rando pop minibop at the end of a noise rawk record)
Mr. Bungle - Disco Volante (y'all know how that one goes...)
Aphex Twin - Syro (Aphexpiano after Aphexbloop)
Talking Heads - The Overload (kinda - doomy post-punk after funk post-punk)
and inb4 Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher (screamo closer omg) |
Avagantamos
12.29.20 | converge - axe to fall (metalcore album, post-metal/post-rock closer)
machinedrum - vapor city archives (footwork album, ambient/synthwave closer)
melt-banana - cell-scape (noise rock/hardcore album, space ambient closer)
richard devine - asect:dcest, cautella, sort/lave (IDM/flashcore/glitch albums with ambient techno closers) |
RogueNine
12.29.20 | Dopelord - Sign of the Devil
Boris - NO |
bloaf38
12.29.20 | The Velvet Underground (1969 album)-After Hours
for one it's the only song sung by Moe Tucker but definitely a different style than the rest of the record. |
ArsMoriendi
12.29.20 | I don't know if this counts but the closer on Bug by Dinosaur Jr. is like a billion times heavier than the rest of the album |
bloaf38
12.29.20 | Beck-Mutations (Diamond Bollocks)
technically its a secret song but it's in stark contrast to the folk songs on the rest of the record |
YoYoMancuso
12.29.20 | @conesmoke
in my defense i'm basically a moron |
ArsMoriendi
12.29.20 | Oh yeah the closer on Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies: A Variety of Whimsical Verse by of Montreal is a 17 minute classical piano piece, which is strange because the rest of the album is full of short psych pop songs |
OwMySnauze
12.29.20 | Saves the Day - Through Being Cool
Banned From The Back Porch was their fast hardcore jam while the rest of the album was pop punk |
Shemson
12.29.20 | Dream Theater - Awake
This always stood out to me as a kid. A whole album of widdly wankery and then Space Dye Vest is this beautiful piano ballad |
KManoc1
12.29.20 | Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
Most of the album is Groove Metal, their cover of Planet Caravan is not. |
Shemson
12.29.20 | I’d go as far as to say the Pantera album that closes with Hollow as well
An amazing ending to a metal album with a real dark ballad |
Egarran
12.29.20 | Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells. Autism-prog into Sailor's Hornpipe. |
aydross121
12.30.20 | bunch of good ones here guys thx.
I do feel like bands doing a piano ballad at the end is kinda common though. |
Sowing
12.30.20 | Kishi Bashi - Annie, Heart Thief of the Sea
Whole album is lush pastoral folk, this closer is sort of a jaunty Americana jingle. It may not look all that different on paper but it sounds pretty different.
Will add more to this if I can think of any... |
someone
12.30.20 | Me And That Man - New Man, New Songs, Same Shit Vol. 1
album is americana/country/rock n roll/folk-rock and the last track "Confession" suddenly bursts into actual black metal |
Koris
12.30.20 | "Dream Theater - Awake
This always stood out to me as a kid. A whole album of widdly wankery and then Space Dye Vest is this beautiful piano ballad"
Eh, I kinda disagree with this one. For one, DT weren't nearly as wankery-driven back then as they are with their modern work. Plus, despite the fact that Space Dye Vest is a beautiful ballad, the atmosphere and feel of that song actually matches the dark tone the album incredibly well. Combined with the fact that it still ends with a metal-oriented climax, I'd say it fits in just fine. But yeah, absolutely beautiful song regardless
Honestly, I would have singled out Silent Man as the odd man out on that record (even though it's not the closer) |
DominionMM1
12.30.20 | kyuss- lick doo
horseback- hatecloud dissolving into nothing |
Egarran
12.30.20 | Good Kyuss call. Nobody asked for that song, you damn stoners. |
BenThatsMyJamin
12.30.20 | Lick doo is the best song on the album
How has no one mentioned Incubus - Morning View? From radio rock/metal to ambient Chinese folk music |
JohnnyoftheWell
12.30.20 | Agreed with everything in Divergent's Awake comment
Morning View has enough spaceout going on with Are You In and Echo that the closer never struck me as odd, but ig there's a case there |
Shemson
12.30.20 | Tbf I haven’t listed to DT for about ten years so I could definitely be remembering the content of Awake wrong. Always struck me as a great chill song in their discography though that stood out. |
BenThatsMyJamin
12.30.20 | The spacey funk of Are You In is one thing but I don't think anyone listening to that album for the first time could have predicted that closer. Certainly threw 15 year-old me for a spin.
Also Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine (Thing Beyond Things is technically a bonus track). Album goes from gaze-y arena prog rock/metal to post-orchestral ambient new-age trip hop crescendo-core closer. |
Egarran
12.30.20 | I think 'They're Red Hot' on Blood Sugar Sex Magic counts.
Not sure what genre it is, all I know is it was recorded on top of a hill at two in the morning. |
aydross121
12.31.20 | been slowly adding them to the list after a listen for the ones im not familiar with.
@someone that one made me lol |
