03.01.21 | When you look up an user you see soundoffs, reviews, album edits etc..but not lists so I take it all those are good but lists are bad, they are not perceived as a contribution.
And then nobody brags about lists, nor album or band edits or soundoffs, it's all about comments, sometimes ratings and seldom about reviews.
Why?
My view:
Lists - ostracized
Reviews - correctly appreciated
Soundoffs- underrated
News - underatted
Album/band edits - very underrated
Ratings - overrated
Comments- super overrated
Ps: trying not to get biased by these although I definitely like numbers:), I don't seek recognition (anyways although checking the site for many years I have only recently created an account so my numbers don't impress anyone but again this is not the point), I search for gems to get into and as well bring a modest contribution to others as much as I am able to.. |
Artuma
03.01.21 | i don't know but you have a pretty wild list/comment ratio |
Divaman
03.01.21 | Lists are on the top of the page. Soundoffs and comments are merely on the side. |

03.01.21 | *overrated |
rage11111ro
03.01.21 | @Artuma, yeah but I have an excuse:) I had many offline list I built throughout the years that I've put forward, the list/comment ratio will clearly keep coming down towards 'normal' levels. But nonetheless, this is really not about me, I am genuinely curious what you think. |
rage11111ro
03.01.21 | @rellik, thanks, corrected now |
rage11111ro
03.01.21 | @divaman, indeed, but why are lists not on the left side too? My take is that they are discouraged as most users consider there are too many anyhow (and quality is not good enough for many I suppose) |
someone
03.01.21 | justice for lists! |
rage11111ro
03.01.21 | @someone, I clearly took the wrong decision to vote against you in the current March madness round, I apologize mate, I see your heart is where it should be, with the lists of course!! But you know, you are paired against Nocte so I guess I also have good excuses on this decision.. |
someone
03.01.21 | Nocte is a worthy foe and a great friend.
no ill mind or hurt feelings.
but i seem to remember there being a discussion about making lists part of the profile page "recent activity" shortcuts or at least have them be accurately represented on the front page alongside new review comments and such
i mean, they're like 40% of all sput comment activity. news comments are on the front page, which i could give two fucks about |
Divaman
03.01.21 | I don't know, rage. I see the top before the left side. For me, that makes lists a higher priority. |

03.01.21 | Are users a bad thing? Maybe there should be no users. |

03.01.21 | oh yeah, like on Albumoftheyear.org |

03.01.21 | Lists are good for discussions, bad for every other reason |
Demon of the Fall
03.01.21 | Depends who’s submitting them tbh. |
porcupinetheater
03.01.21 | Yeah I don't think people think all that hard about it. Good and bad everything, not many people making unilateral judgements about it. An explanationless "Deftones ranked" list is unnecessary, any number of creative or unique lists are a different story. Shit's relative |

03.01.21 | Album/band edits are what's really overrated |

03.01.21 | Ghost negs are the most valuable contribution you can make to the site.
Keep people honest and humble. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
03.01.21 | Not the angle I think you were going for here but in relation to your last list about chronic intake you could probably argue that lists are bad in that regard as they encourage more incessant plugging which means more sheer quantity of albums ingested, but less quality time with them and more focus on the logistics of archival work than actually just listening to music.
Some years I don't add what I listen to to the database or plug it at all and it makes it more difficult to build an aoty list at the end of the year but on the flipside it eliminates the stresses of the more OCD habits that go along with being a rating/review site kind of music nerd. |

Spoken like a true champion of lowest common denominator music taste |

03.01.21 | Yeah, pots with some top-tier point making there |

03.01.21 | pots is prob right tbh (3 I guess)
Indeed not the angle I was going for but it amazingly to the conclusion that lists are indeed bad as more often than not they lead to listening countless stuff we don't like due to being on the same list with one band/album that we actually enjoy. |
Sinternet
03.01.21 | i brag about my band/album edits because i am an elite user |
Demon of the Fall
03.01.21 | AOTY lists can definitely be bad due to what Pots said, putting pressure on yourself to consume as much music as possible in a short time frame isn’t the optimal way of digesting music. However much anyone pretends like it is, it really isn’t - how can such a defined ‘deadline’ be? The culture of AOTY lists is something I was partaking in for a couple of years, but am now trying to move away from. |

03.01.21 | i always brag about my lists. honestly, i grow stronger with each new list i post. i'm at 75 right now and feeling fucking great about it. 100 is going to be an extremely momentous occasion |
