03.30.21 | yeah, am feeling a split between yesyes (1, 5, 6) to eh (7) to absolute purgatorial no-no (2) here. shame Thin Air didn't make it, forgot about that BSS song too - been a while. good tune though |

03.30.21 | Not even the GOAT break up anthem 'Walk in the Park'? :'(
You boys clearly never had that someone special drift from your life - Walk in the Park is an absolute classic
Also Johnny, when did Deerhunter become so passe? |

03.30.21 | I guess the fact I'll pass on Kanye (who is supposed to be the dominant force of the decade) on all these lists might be a sticking point for a lot of people - don't hate all Ye but he's not released a song I'll ever find space for in a top 10 of anything. |

03.30.21 | "You boys clearly never had that someone special drift from your life"
channelled that energy into an unholy gateway ticket to Carissa's Wierd/Have a Nice Life/In Utero/Pygmalion-era Slowdive hard F :[ no space for Beach House at the heartbreak hotel
I've never vibed Deerhunter outside of a few songs tbh, think I jammed Halcyon q a bit around 2015ish when they were still good goss, and have been indifferent ever since so (could it be :O) i was ahead of the passe-brigade. who knows. they're the kinda band I could still see myself discog trawling on a rainy day tbh |

03.30.21 | That's definitely my favourite Beach House, the one with the real emotional connect, the lyrics and feel really sums up that scenario - I did have a truly horrible break up in late 2011 so maybe that's why it's stayed a classic for me. A tune you have to emotionally invest in though I'll admit, doesn't grab you by the shirt collar - but it's a devastator if you let it in.
Deerhunter I got a lot more respect for playing live - a top 10 live act for me I'd say. That song is atypical for them but the whole vibe of someone who might well have a shortened life expectancy singing about someone who's passed in this very unconventional song framework, the way he looks and sings about the passage of time, again a band I wouldn't say are a massive emotional connect for me in general, but it's a special one.
Both of those songs are basically about the passage of time and how it fucks with your memories and mind, so maybe ones for a dude who was just looking at middle age coming closer at the time.
3 and 4 on the list are some of the most successful 'out there' pop of the decade too, essential. |
