march listening log |
1 | | Livity Sound Molten Mirrors: A Decade of Livity Sound
4.2/5 ~ everyone's favorite bristol-based label puts together banger after banger. it's hard to pick a top track from this, or even a top 5–this is a remarkably consistent foray into the sounds that made livity sound so innovative in dance music over the past decade. |
2 | | Alex Cameron Forced Witness
3.4/5 ~ not as in love with this guy as many seem to be, but this is extremely competent synthpop. i do love his lyrics, which counts for something, but some of these songs feel like a pastiche in a bad way. |
3 | | White Suns Sinews
3.8/5 ~ hadn't heard this in probably about five years, but it's just as raucous and merciless as i remember. |
4 | | Jenny Hval Classic Objects
3.9/5 ~ while i do miss the "viscera" sound, it's kind of hard to not be pleased with the latest offering from hval. american coffee might be the best pure pop song she's ever done. her stylistic progression has been impressive, even if i prefer her earlier work. |
5 | | Yeat Up 2 Më
3.5/5 ~ yeah not too much to say about this one except it's fun af. probably won't listen to this in full again, but some of the big tunes like "money so big" and "get busy" are so entertaining. |
6 | | Bladee x ECCO2K Crest
4.4/5 ~ incredibly impressed with this. whitearmor's floaty production is incredible. "white meadow" soty. |
7 | | Two Shell Home
4.5/5 ~ such an amazing single. feels like slightly less exuberant take on the early sophie sound. great choice of sample. catchiest tune i've heard in a minute |
8 | | Kraus Eye Escapes
3.8/5 ~ doesn't reach the heights of last year's "view no country" but this new kraus album, compiled from songs recorded between 2016-2021 and mastered by the legend blank body, is super gorgeous and lovely |
9 | | Laurel Halo and Hodge Tru / Opal / The Light Within You
3.4/5 ~ last track is kind of a stinker but first two are amazing. would have liked more vox from halo but great collab |
10 | | Ayesha Potential Energy
4.0/5 ~ incredibly fun, wobbly dance music. t/t goes nuts, and the rest of the EP doesn't disappoint. the label is scuffed recordings and they're one to look out for |
