06.16.22 | Tbh if there weren't so many great one-liners (like the "new Doug" bit) and it wasn't helmed by such a great director I feel like the concept of punch-line Thor would REALLY take me out of it |
Divaman
06.16.22 | It's funny, I agree with you about Ragnorak vs. the first two Thor films - it was the best overall film of the three, but it went too far in making Thor a ridiculous character. And I didn't at all love making him a walking fat joke in Endgame, even if some of the lines themselves (e.g. calling him the Big Lebowski) were funny. But I won't even bother to see the new one. The whole notion of making Natalie Portman into Thor is just too ridiculous. (I know that they eventually did something like that in the comics, but that was long after comics began to suck.) |
rockarollacola
06.16.22 | Ragnarök is the only good Thor film. The first two are amongst the worst films in the MCU, which I don't really enjoy to begin with. |
Keyblade
06.16.22 | I liked the first Thor. Ragnarok obv the best, but the first one was funny in a different way |
pizzamachine
06.16.22 | All of the Thor films are good cheesy B movies that are funny and lame. |
rockarollacola
06.16.22 | I don't know man, that first Thor movie was boring as fuck to me. |

06.16.22 | “b-movie”
*doubt 🤔* |

06.16.22 | Thor 1 is top 5 worst MCU films fuck Kenneth Branagh |
pizzamachine
06.16.22 | It hath the raw power of B movies in spirit whilst under the triple A Marvel budget. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
06.16.22 | Honestly Thor is a terrible character in the comics or otherwise unless he’s treated like a goofy himbo so I’m all for Taika hamming it up |

06.17.22 | The first two are so bad I can't imagine ever rewatching them |
zaruyache
06.17.22 | 1 is good for the ironic memes, 2 idk 3 is himbo fun, and is slightly more genuine than most MCU. |

06.17.22 | Movie critics up in here |

06.17.22 | Ragnarök best agreed |

06.17.22 | The Jane Foster Thor comic arc is spectacular so I cannot wait for the movie |
fogza
06.17.22 | the first thor is just barely ok, the second one is dire. ragnarok is fun but i agree, it does start to feel like sketch comedy |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
06.17.22 | Would actually love to hear what exactly pushes a female magic hammer wielding Viking god from rainbow road over the edge of ridiculousness that is soundly reasonable when it is a man |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
06.17.22 | Like imagine boycotting a movie because a fEmAlE took over the mantle of staticky hammer warlock immortal space guy in a comedy directed by taika |

06.17.22 | I haven't read that comic run so I actually don't know much of anything about that storyline, but I will say that the concept of Thor not being the God of Thunder is a little weird on its face, but I guess I'll see where they take it. I am excited and interested, but it is a little bit of a strange idea.
The weirdness for me doesn't come from the fact that she's a woman, it's just the mere fact of the character Thor being, ya know, Thor lol
And yeah, Thor 2 fucking blows |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
06.17.22 | Jane Foster is far from the only alternate Thor. I thought it was pretty obvious that his name is used as a misnomer for the title of god of thunder / wielder of mjolner
Hasn’t Beta Ray Bill already had a cameo in the MCU? Is a horse alien being the warlock of zap zaps less ridiculous than a woman? Serious question |

06.17.22 | Do you guys think spiderwoman is Peter Parker? |
DarkSideOfLucca
06.17.22 | No it's obviously not more ridiculous, chill dude lol.
I guess I haven't read those specific comics, tbh I was much more into X-men, Spider-man, Batman, Punisher and Daredevil comics growing up. But mythology wise, obviously Thor is the only one to wield to hammer and I always got the impression that's part of what made that character special/important so I wasn't huge about any other characters being able to use the hammer in general. But like I said, I know it's cannon, and I trust the team (even with all of the tension breaking humor) so we'll see. I'm sure I'll end up digging it when I see it on screen. |
DarkSideOfLucca
06.17.22 | Dude I thought it was weird as hell when Captain America wielded the hammer.
Am I now sexist against Steve Rogers? |
CygnusX1
06.17.22 | It's been established multiple times in the mcu that worthy people can wield mjolnir, not just thor. His whole character arc in ragnarok was learning that it's not the hammer that makes him special.
That being said, Ragnarok does not hold up for me. It was amazing on the first watch. But once I knew all the cheesy one-liners it became a slog to sit through. Way better than the first 2 tho. Can't wait to see me some God-butchering on screen |
Slex
06.17.22 | Potsy i didnt know u know yr comics, Beta Ray Bill is my fave Thor character |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
06.17.22 | I’m chill I just think it’s funny how fickle and unreasonable comic fandom is sometimes
And yeah actually I was gonna ask if you grumped yourself when vision picked up the hammer
@slex I used to be really big into comics, I’ve fallen off with it as a hobby but there were a few years there where I was going HARD |

06.17.22 | tbh isn't the overabundance of guips/sarcasm/one-liners a common critique of the MCU as a whole? Ragnarok is maybe just one of the more clear offenders.
I'm all for them trying something different, they've had zero clue what to do with Thor's character. He's wildly inconsistent. |
DarkSideOfLucca
06.17.22 | "tbh isn't the overabundance of guips/sarcasm/one-liners a common critique of the MCU as a whole?"
Yes, but it just stuck out to me more with Thor because it seems like they put so much effort into making genuinely jaw dropping epic scenes and some of the most vibrant, exciting visuals I have seen in a CGI fest movie in a while...only to undercut every possible "wow" moment with like 10,000 jokes per second. Like I said, I'm all for jokes, but not for every single line.
I'm for them trying something different too, and I actually do love Ragnarok, I just wish they cut it back a bit - Love and Thunder is my most anticipated movie of the summer, but I just worry that it will make the same mistake.
"It's been established multiple times in the mcu that worthy people can wield mjolnir, not just thor. His whole character arc in ragnarok was learning that it's not the hammer that makes him special."
True, I dunno even though its comic and MCU cannon I still think it kind of makes the character less special if whoever the fuck can yield it as long as they're honorable enough. But I know that's obviously not the majority opinion, especially considering my theater losing its fucking mind when Cap had the hammer in Endgame.
I kinda dig that each character has their own thing that only they use. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
06.17.22 | Thor is special alright |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
06.17.22 | Honestly losing mjolner/his wOrThInEsS is the closest thing that big dumb himbo has ever had to a character arch and having to watch other characters wield it and struggle with his sense of worth has done nothing if not make him slightly less one dimensional. Like it’s literally the only thing that makes Thor interesting beyond the most superficial level. It’s the only thing that makes him relatable and gives him humanity. |
