11.22.22 | I feel like you'd much more regret never going to a show than going to a bad one |

11.22.22 | 15 would be amazing but pretty much impossible. |

11.22.22 | damn that citycop album is a major throwback |

11.22.22 | I saw Ulcerate within a very small crowd.it was soooo good |

11.22.22 | Stop being afraid and GO! It's a blast I promise! My first show ever was Black Dahlia with Augury, Obscura and Hatesphere and it was amazing. I've seen Black Dahlia 5 or 6 times at this point. Saw Revocation first in 2010 and I believe I've seen them 3 times now. I've seen Archspire twice also. I've also seen Thrice once. That's it for this list though. Would love to catch Mastodon, Ulcerate, Neurosis and Car Bomb tho |
IsisScript80
11.22.22 | Well, ISIS have broken up for good (bar the very specific one-off shows as "Celestial") and Neurosis have unfortunately gone down in flames due to a key member's fuckery, so pretty much no chance of seeing those anymore, but going to see my favourite bands live over the years has truly been--melodramatic, whatever--one of the greatest joys I've experienced being alive.
I get that you may have social anxiety, or something related, and that may need to be addressed specifically, but there's so much life fulfillment to gain by doing something that I guarantee you would ultimately love. |

11.22.22 | you're definitely doing yourself a disservice by not going to shows. seeing coheed and mastodon on the same tour was one of the highlights of my entire dumbass life lol. |
pollastrerostit
11.22.22 | Depending on where you live, you have Coheed with Thrice AND Touche Amore! I saw Cult of Luna last month and they were amazing, also saw Ulcerate a couple of times but long ago and don't remember much tbh!
Feel free to ignore the question, but what is it specifically that you are afraid of? Asking just in case we can help with our experience!
> Live shows are straight up cathartic
^ For me, this, absolutely |

11.22.22 | It may sound silly but I have a very real fear of being the only black guy at the show. I just don't know how people here, in the state where I live, will react to my presence. |

11.22.22 | 2 played for so long that I tapped out after 45 minutes. Had a crazy headache hahaha |
mkmusic1995
11.22.22 | Of these, I've only seen August Burns Red a few times and they're very solid. Would love to see a Rolo Tomassi/Ithaca co-headliner |
VlacDrac
11.23.22 | Fuckery aside, Neurosis was one of the best shows I've ever been to, they opened the set with A Sun That Never Sets, imagine trying to top that. It was a great show, even Jason Roeder gave one of his cymbals to one of the attendants. |

Wow this is fucking brutal and just another show of how sickeningly racist our society is still. I'd say definitely try. Go to one and stay in the back, see if you feel comfortable. Maybe you get surprised at how little people care about you being there.
Or maybe try to connect with other people who like similar music and live in your area, maybe if you go with other people you will feel more comfortable.
My experience as a cis white male is that while it's true there is mostly white people in shows (I live in Spain) no one gives a shit about your race, sexuality or whatever. I'd say specifically the hardcore/emo scene, with all its craziness, is very respectful overall |

What state do you live in if you don't mind me asking?
I honestly think you'll be welcomed with open arms in most cases. Don't know your area though. I've noticed with the metal scene here though that people tend to be pretty open to any and everyone and just all around laid back. Don't get me wrong though there are definitely some drunken jackasses sprinkled in sometimes but such is life |

11.23.22 | Yeah even if you’re in like Alabama or Mississippi or something hc/p/m is generally very welcoming to people of other races and genders and stuff, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. If you were going to go see some redneck shit like 5 finger death punch it would be one thing but not with any of these |

Yeah, I've seen them several times (one with Jarboe as guest and doing stuff from that collaborative album) and they've always been incredible. Such a shame on all levels.
On topic... @DiscoveringAxiom: I can only echo what others have said here; your concerns are completely understandable, and I wouldn't want to downplay how justified they may be, given where you might be from. I've seen several of these bands listed, and generally, they've in no way been 100% white, and the vibe's been (from what I've seen) cool and inclusive (I've taken a couple of now-exes who happened to have been from other races to Metal shows before, and that was fine), but saying all that, I live in England and as botb mentioned, the specific band attracts different crowds, so there are definitely variables, but my guess is that those you list would be fine in most cases.
Again, I think try it once on a non-commital basis. As pollasterostit said, hang at the back for a bit, get a sense of the vibe and if you're happy to risk the price of a ticket, it should be okay no matter how it pans out (again, my guess it would be fine in most circumstances).
I think you should do this; there really is so much to gain from the experience if you're a music fan and you shouldn't regret it. |

11.28.22 | Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement; one of the reasons why I enjoy this site. I live in AZ; the quality crowds that might be at a show is always in question. I just want to be able to experience the music that I have had to enjoy secretly for over 20 years. It's really about being accepted and to be rejected in a setting/crowd/scene where I feel so closely connected would be difficult to swallow. |
robertsona
11.28.22 | I don't like Thrice that much, but their Vheissu anny show was top 15 maybe? Coheed were cool. Only two bands on here I've seen, would have killed for ISIS tho |
robertsona
11.28.22 | I saw Neurosis open for Converge but it was all Converge that night for this particular robertsona. I can't say I remember Neu!rosis's set that well |

11.28.22 | I saw 3-4 shows a week (usually $10 or less) late 2019 right before COVID when I lived in Brooklyn. Was my lifeline--such a depressing time otherwise. I think it's pretty easy to modulate your concert experience to fit your needs as long as you kind of figure them out in advance. My feeling is that the worst experience would belong to someone who desires strongly to talk to people but feels too awkward or out of place to do so--and even that is kinda solvable. If you're not /really/ looking to do that then I think you're golden. J chill. ghost when the last song is ending. easy money |

As your first exposure, would you consider travelling to say, a more (I suppose) liberal area to see one of your faves on tour…? Make a holiday of it...? You’d get the positive first experience and have that to build from. Just a thought… |
