12.27.22 | not that i care at all about this stupid genre but in what world would cloudkicker not be in a big 4 |
Calc
12.27.22 | there's a a lot to disagree with here but does big 4 mean popular or successful or what? |
evilford
12.27.22 | Lul |
0xME
12.27.22 | big 4, as in the original big 4 of thrash, was purely about commercial success
but it was always a stupid moniker so w/e |
Calc
12.27.22 | like polyphia isn't djent, plini isn't the best lead player, and widek being underrated yet apart of a big 4 as the term is usually used. just disagreements though. periphery just told me djent isn't really a genre anyways |
AlexKzillion
12.27.22 | polyphia maybe isn't a full on djent band but they are absolutely inarguably the gateway band of this style in the way a shit ton of people got into thrash by jamming the not-thrash black album and dug backwards |
sonictheplumber
12.27.22 | all crap |

12.28.22 | Big 4 of 1980s Swiss post noisegrind |
Eakflanderyof
12.28.22 | Djent is the most contrived genre of music of all time but matt garstka is one talented motherfucker and fun to watch. Still hate the genre for bands just intentionally writing an entire discography around polymeter |
Drifter
12.28.22 | animals shit scale the summit much better |
Drifter
12.28.22 | i haven’t heard a single song or piece of news or information about them since my brother lived in the same house as me in like 2017 so yes |
SomeCallMeTim
12.28.22 | Never cared for STS but always thought the cover art for The Migration is dope |
botb
12.28.22 | Commercial Djent lmao what are these sub genres youre establishing |
botb
12.28.22 | I think the word you’re looking for is “pop” but most of this shit is pretty “commercial” if you get right down to it lol |
botb
12.28.22 | Forgot thordendal’s special defects had vocals, was gonna say “where’s that” |
Demon of the Fall
12.28.22 | ‘this also cannot be disputed.‘ 🤔
anyway, I struggle to make it through an entire AAL, Periphery, Polyfilla or Vijdhjarta album, so maybe this shit ain’t for me - I can’t think of any other djenty bands I’ve actually attempted to sit through |
Drifter
12.28.22 | wow vildhjarta that’s a blast from the past |
Demon of the Fall
12.28.22 | they released an album last year |
Drifter
12.28.22 | a blast from my past you demon |
botb
12.28.22 | I just can’t believe this genre still has such a wild fan base, what could possibly come out in the djent realm in 2022 that hasn’t already been covered better by like 2012. |
Sinternet
12.28.22 | are you okay bro? |
Eakflanderyof
12.28.22 | I don't think there has been much great black metal in recent years either but so many djent bands just sound like copy and paste of other djent bands. Same clean and distorted guitar tones. Pretty much exclusively writing in polymeter. Drums that sound programmed and often times are. I'm sure after writing in that style for so long it becomes natural to write in that way but exclusively writing songs that way feels so contrived. Like, they never just wanna settle into a normal groove? I know I'm sounding like a metal boomer but it's just the way I feel about it. It gets really tiring to listen to songs like that for me
But i do like seeing animals live because I like watching great drummers play. That's about all it is for me though |

12.29.22 | djarbage |

12.29.22 | I was literally in a “Djent” band that released music in 2013/2014 dog, I’m just saying the genre is stale and I can’t imagine only listening to stuff like that nowadays that it’s kind of old news |
Klekticist
12.29.22 | good list, gonna have to check some of these bands out. didnt know widek before. big aal and cloudkicker fan, would personally have them at top two. plini is p good, but all pretty major key and gets a little too poppy for me. i appreciate how much he does on 6 strings and a fractal tho. also probably the best use of the whammy in the genre. tim henson does it a lot too, but his playing feels a bit more theatrical and crazy idk. polyphia was always a lil too off the wall to me. i like STS' canyons and the collective. the levitated is probably my favorite song of theirs. the rest of the bands listed here i'm not too familiar with. though i have seen intervals live on their tour with AAL. same major key complaint lol, but i do like it a bit. i've found there's a lot of DIY one person groups releasing similar-ish music under the "thall" heading lately |
Klekticist
12.29.22 | o also worth saying ben sharp's catalog is incredibly deep and there's loads of good tracks going back to his myspace days |
Drifter
12.29.22 | Lol PIV by Periphery which is commonly regarded as their best work (released 2019), and Lol Syncatto A Place to Breathe which is the furthest thing from your average djent, slept on by all the people (released 2021), Djent is like every genre, it has peaks and valleys, it's not going to die (lol), if you dislike it that's cool good for you (do you ever get tired of hating on it though?), it will last as long as black metal for sure, especially with thall which has been blowing tf up recently thanks to Vildhjarta, Lol at the Djent has run it's course claims, man. |

12.29.22 | as black metal reaches its 40th anniversary, I weep as I imagine the state of dj*nt in 2050 |

That Tosin played and it pleased the lord
But you don't really care for music, do ya?
Well it goes like this, it's forced, not fun
The minor chugs and the major junz
The baffled king composing djent music |
Eakflanderyof
12.29.22 | Wait, we're calling minor key and major key different genres now? Lmao |
botb
12.29.22 | I’m looking for diminished fun sized Djent do you have any recommendations |
Sinternet
12.29.22 | any djent based around arabic scales? preferably with a mixolydian influence |
botb
12.29.22 | Oh man you’re gonna love the haarp machine but I think that’s actually more mixylodian post Djent with Arabic scale influences |
Demon of the Fall
12.29.22 | ‘especially with thall which has been blowing tf up recently thanks to Vildhjarta‘
hang on, so that’s supposed to be the good kind of djent? 🤔 okay, this might be tricky then |
botb
12.29.22 | Every now and again you gotta shake the hornets nest that are djent fans and see what beautiful copy pastas you get, nothing personal tundra keep djenting and not derping! |
botb
12.29.22 | Also dude you don’t have fellsilent rated, please listen to that LP. It’s the band with members of monuments and Tesseract before they split into those bands. It’s absolutely brilliant |
