tectactoe 06.22.23	Big nostalgia boner, SUPER MARO RPG has long been an all-time favorite game of mine, a very important and formative relic of my childhood, and a game I'd endeavor to run through at least once every couple years or so (last time I played it was maybe three years ago now, a little bit before our second child was born). Doesn't quite have the depth of FINAL FANTASY games of the same era, but compensates in several other places - namely environment, narrative, and a few of the "quirkier" elements that add unmistakable Nintendo flair to the otherwise boilerplate RPG templates of the time.

I love Wii MK too and still participate in tournaments but that’s some hardcore nostalgia glasses. Also modern day 2D Mario is a joke, really hoping this new game changes that but I’m definitely worried after watching the trailer.
ShapeOfJizzToCum 06.22.23	Modern 2D mario has horrible movement style, loose and slidey and floaty and bad. Calling all turn based RPGs shitty also dumb as hell. A lot of the older especially JRPGs are definitely bogged down by a lack of QOL and having 0 respect for your time packing in unfair fights that you're expected to fail until you get lucky etc and it's tough for me to get into those but there's a ton of fantastic ones out there and the Mario RPGs are some of the best examples of not overly complex but still reasonably deep and rewarding TBRGs with fantastic and fun writing. I never got to finish OG SMRPG, I've started it a few times on emulator and burned out or got distracted by other shit so I'm v excited to finally play it in full, Thousand Year Door and a couple of the Mario/Luigi games are def some of the funnest TBRPGs made. Persona 5 is also a great example of modern turn based combat being fantastic, and Dragon Quest is keeping the very traditional style alive without bogging it down with too much bullshit. Calling it autopilot is dumb as hell.

I will say it’s deserving of the remake treatment because 1) a ton of people asked for it & 2) I find the graphics to be conceptually sound but they are pretty dated in comparison to other snes classix Fresh coat of paint could really make the game shine if you are into the genre

DQ11 was just a very beautiful game that was very relaxing to play but also with some decently spicy boss fights as well, I enjoyed the story and characters and environment and enemy design all enough to have a very comfy like 120hrs in that shit.

Also it's pretty simple but the timed button presses to add extra damage or try to block damage with each enemy having unique moves with unique animations/timing for every move to try to figure out as well as figuring out the timing for your own moves does add a lot to simple scrolling through menus and choosing moves for combat re: all of the Mario RPG games. i don't remember how much the original SMRPG implemented that compared to like thousand year door (the goat) but I do believe it at least had some of the timed pressing.
Gyromania 06.22.23	Persona 5 is objectively great I just find the grind gets kind of boring. I’m a bit biased tho since my save file of 70 hours was corrupted and I had to replay through the game again. Got 20 hours in and was like fuck this, not worth.

ShapeOfJizzToCum 06.22.23	Also FF8 other than being able to press R1 to pull the trigger on your gunblade which is sick, had some of the worst combat/overall gameplay experience of any FF or TBRPG i've blade. So much time in menus with junctioning and shit, woof, gag me. Couldn't get into the earlier MH games, too much boring annoying doodoo getting in the way of having a good time, but I had a blast playing MHW on PC with some friends for like a year and haven't touched any MH since.
