| i saw Outer Heaven's new album release show
made the pilgrimage to Pennsylvania to bear witness to the riff | 1 | | Hath All That Was Promised
was eating dim sum downtown when the local openers played, i'm sure they were great but we were hungry. got there in time for Hath's set. since there were 5 bands on the bill, their set was relatively short but sweet. as expected, they played a bunch of tunes off the new album. their technicality and music prowess were on full display here, shit was cash. hopin to see em again soon | 2 | | Stabbed Defleshed by Reptiles
spent the first half of their set upstairs in the air conditioning (the venue is a VFW type spot, and it was HOT). came down to watch the rest of it while trying to dodge hardcore dancers wage war against invisible assailants. ngl not a fan of that shit personally since crowdkilling is wack and theyre straight throwing bows but what can you do? anyways, Stabbed was pretty heavy and overall enjoyable to watch when not getting flailed at | 3 | | Outer Heaven Infinite Psychic Depths
Outer Heaven played the new album straight thru and crushed it. ended up like front and center pretty much so i spent half the show playing limbo kinda dodging the vocalist but it was cool i didnt mind (it will be funny to see the footage homeboy with the camcorder off to the side took since my dumb ass will be in frame like the entire time). anyways, the new album sounds fantastic. i thinkkk i like it more than their debut but not sure entirely--hearing it live definitely gives it that extra edge.
some other random thoughts--some dude straight up passed out towards the end of the show. definitely heat related and mans was in the pit, but he came to after the show was paused for a sec. other thought--hardcore dancing at the death metal show, what do we think? yay/nay? i dont fw it but would love to hear yalls thoughts | |

07.31.23 | managed to pick up #1 of 30 of their special holographic vinyl thing which was cool!! also shoutout to Pennsylvania for grandfathering in indoor smoking at some many of their bars, smelling like a sweaty ashtray is such a vibe | DungeonBoy
07.31.23 | Carl what's up brother? Hardcore dancing at a death metal show... hmmm... I guess it depends, I'm all for people dancing if they are clear about their intentions and not just being d*cks about it. I was at a show recently where some dude was horse kicking people behind him in their knees while they were just standing there watching the band, and I was praying someone would knock him out. I think it's situational. Glad you had fun! | frozencarl
07.31.23 | DungeonBoy! always great to hear from you :] not sure if the intention was crowdkilling, but at one point I did witness an argument in the pit that almost entirely stemmed from a hxc kid pissing off an old metalhead. the venue usually does hxc and punk shows so I'm pretty sure theres just a group of regulars that go to any and all show they do and perhaps dont understand the pit etiquette of a death metal show | Azazzel
07.31.23 | way too many of the recent pits I've been to just disintegrate into a gaping void for people to run literal laps like a merry-go-round. doesn't help when frontmen keep trying to make "circle-pits" happen. crowd just runs for the walls and 5 dudes have a battle royale.
much prefer a larger denser crowd so the pit has more friction like a lattice web of atoms.
new Outer Heaven whips, will keep eye out for dates | frozencarl
07.31.23 | I kind of like when that happens since it allows you to get closer to the front of the crowd if you arrived late or had to step out to grab a drink/use the bathroom. its the more polite version of cutting in front of people to the front |
