12.17.23 | Sorry - can’t stand with this list - although 2 and 5 are great. later DT albums (e.g. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence) are so much better than 1. And 4 isn’t even close to being metal - King’s-X are prog rock. |
Ryus
12.17.23 | atheist - unquestionable presence
motw - bath/leaving your body map
voivod - dimension hatross
opeth - still life
ven buens ende - written in waters
Mindcrime blows yeah [2] |

12.17.23 | Ryus and Tundra having one of the worst takes ever here, classic |
el_newg
12.17.23 | personally I really like the guy saying prog rock ISNT EVEN CLOSE to prog metal! Like come on OP get your shit together |
Ryus

JohnnyoftheWell
12.17.23 | >later DT albums (e.g. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence) are so much better than 1
this is the worst take itt
although never been able to force myself through a full Queensryche record, so maybe not
defs drop Opeth/King's X for motW and btbam for Atheist though |
Ryus
12.17.23 | operation mindcrime is just an 80s heavy metal album with a ""concept"" so ppl think its progressive but musically its kinda not really |
Casavir
12.17.23 | A motw fan has no right to call anything riffless |
Casavir
12.17.23 | Also, I kind of agree with the idea of Mindcrime being pretty traditional for the most part, Rage for Order's the foundational prog metal release they've made. |

JDubb
12.17.23 | Right. 80’s vocals were horrendous - and saturate 1, even though released in 1992. And King’s-X is not metal. Galactic Cowboys were metal. Only King’s X album that approached metal (and heavy, for that matter) was Dogman. Don’t think I don’t have and know these albums. |
BookoftheFallen
12.17.23 | #notmetal |
JDubb
12.17.23 | OK. Stepping out of this one. |
BlazinBlitzer
12.18.23 | If we're talking "go-to" generally, I think Tool's gotta be considered. |
