March 2024 ā¦ Feb took an unexpected turn towards grind and ambient and idm, jazz dropped off the face of the planet, we did a few big RYM rated bois (finally checked the classic kanyes), what do we do now? I've taken a few days off new music listening because work is shit and I needed to fall back on some comfort jams. Hoping to get back in the game though suspect March will be lower on the listens than Jan (60) and Feb (50) as work doesn't look like its going to let up. Let's start with a quick dip into brass and see where we go. |
1 | | John Coltrane My Favorite Things
3rd March 2024
Modal Jazz / Post-Bop [1961]
Last Coltrane I jammed was Giant Steps? I've skipped a few important albums and jumped straight for this as it seemed interesting and IT IS!!!! Title track almost made me tear up, very special, spiritual. The rest are more BOP CENTRAL in the way I know her, but man I will keep coming back these have a pop knack for the HOOK and I like it. 2 | | Aphex Twin Windowlicker

Cursed booba. Lewd James. [3.5] fucky and weird and Aphex |
3 | | Aphex Twin Come to Daddy
4th March 2024
IDM [1997]
Cracked twin. [4] thereās something in Pappy Mix into Film into Little Lord into BALL that fractured my tired, sleep deprived brian (brain) into seventeen pieces and made me cry |
4 | | Iglooghost Clear Tamei
5th March 2024

Terrifying. Essential. [4.5] |
7 | | Aphex Twin ...I Care Because You Do
8th March 2024
IDM [1995]
Have I overdosed on Aphex? probably! but this is still great. Weird synths and rhythms give oddball feelings in chest. [3.5] good contrast to an evening of grindcore |
8 | | SYFF The World is Yours

Drone / Doom / Psych / Boris [2000]
Everything. [4] |
10 | | Grachan Moncur III Evolution
10th March 2024
Post-Bop [1964]
Flamboyant esoteric vestibule of pink weird sauce. Quite possibly too hot to handle. Eric Dolphy adjacent. Did I listen solely for the album art why yes I did. Something I think Iāll appreciate more once Iāve gotten fully fully fully acquainted with regular old hard bop. For now the goof is just goof. [3.5] |
11 | | Animal Collective Prospect Hummer
10th March 2024
Psych Folk [2005]
Continuing my incoherent backwards forwards aside and within trawl through the AC canon with this cute little folken giblet. Woahwoah wuhwuhwuh forever. What I associate with Mount Eerie etc. Guest vox by Bunyan make this. [4] |
12 | | Deltron 3030 Deltron 3030
10th March 2024
Abstract Hip Hop [2000]
We are doing music based on album art aesthetic now letās go. Been approx a year since Iāve dug back into rap et al and this is incredible. Abstract but big on fat hooks and infectious beats. Conceptually sweet, skits unobstructive, hitting me in the soul. [4.5] |
13 | | Alice in Chains Jar of Flies
10th March 2024
Grunge / Alt Rock [1994]
Sounds so damn 90s, warts and rhinestones and all. Well put together, well dressed, rotting collection of acoustic rock bliss. [4] my first AIC. |
14 | | maudlin of the Well Leaving Your Body Map
11th March 2024
Avant / Prog Metal [2001]
Weird cause I like bath and their final LP but not this, at all, really. Wet fish. Spindly and slippery. Harsh vox couldnāt sound more out of place on some passages, remove them and Iād have less to complain about. Maybe thatās why I prefer the other two, less tied in with the m/. [3] it is red though |
15 | | Mazzy Star So Tonight That I Might See
12th March 2024
Neo-Psych / Dream Pop / Alt Country [1993]
Simple and ghostly and beautiful. [3.5] and so concludes the rainbow |

18 | | Pig Destroyer Painter of Dead Girls
14th March 2024
Powerviolence [2004]
Messy. Glorious. [4] |
19 | | Combatwoundedveteran I Know A Girl Who Develops Crime Scene Photos
16th March 2024
Emoviolence / Noisegrind [1999]
A bit childish / plastic? Idk, not finding much meat on these bones. [3] |
20 | | Tuning Circuits No Compassion
16th March 2024
Acid Techno [1990]
Rough around the edges thumping hypnotic techno boogies. [3.5] |
21 | | Terminal 11 Illegal Nervous Habits
16th March 2024
Breakcore / IDM [2005]
Weirdo synths and oddball samples with loopy breaks. [3.5] |

R&B / Electronic [2011]
Vocoder take me to heaven. [4] |
23 | | Skee Mask Pool
23rd March 2024
IDM [2021]
Been working my way through this over the last week. Way too much for my tiny pea to comprehend, being as new as I am to electronic and all itās splendid splendour. Immense potential to grow once I figure out what is going on here. Currently overwhelmed. [3.5] |
24 | | Aborted Vault of Horrors
23rd March 2024

26 | | Tim Hecker Virgins
24th March 2024
Ambient / Electroacoustic / Drone [2013]
Somewhere between perfect and fucked. Got teary-eyed for some of this; got earache for other parts. Scared and cuddled. [4]
Edit: actually fuck it this was entrancing. [4.5] |
27 | | Bongripper Satan Worshipping Doom
25th March 2024
Stoner / Doom Metal [2010]
Bongggggg. Bongggggggg. Bongggggggggggggg. Forever. [4] |
28 | | Klaus Schulze Cyborg
26th March 2024
Progressive Electronic / Space Ambient [1973]
Classically toned, new agey, but more, very nicely produced, fun spatial things, rich synths, captivating long loops, ever so slightly dated in some of the b-movie sci-fi tones/timbres but so damn close to superbety, particularly the opener, very stirring and moving. [4] |
29 | | John Coltrane Africa/Brass
26th March 2024
Modal Jazz / Post-Bop [1961]
Month end (ish) and weāre back with ā61 trane. Weird hodgepodge, this. Africa is its own standalone, weirdo F thing. Second half is way more big band neutral with a genre hopping flair, less brass-tax bop, kinda classically inspired motifs, maybe? Just impeccable. Such a good discog, from the 5(?) Iāve now heard. [4] |
30 | | Death Death By Metal
28th March 2024
Death Metal [1984]
Did a re-discog run the other day for āreasonsā, and realised I never checked this. Death before Death were Death. Produced like a turd but gristley and cool. [3.5] |
