My Biggest Disappointments Of 2008
Records I was letdown by this year |
1 | | Flogging Molly Float
I got more into this over time but at first, this was a huge disappointment for me. I couldn't get into it at all except for the first three tracks. Seeing them live more than made up for the disappointing record though. Like I said earlier, I did get more into this after a few more listens but overall, I was expecting better. |
2 | | The Offspring Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace
Meh. I wasn't expecting too much at first but then I heard "Hammerhead" and got my hopes up only to be let down by this album. It has a few solid tracks, mainly in the first half of the record but it just drifts into forgettable songs later in the album. Better than Splinter at least. |
3 | | The Matches A Band In Hope
What the fuck happened here? I loved their first two albums but this one I hated. I knew they were drifting away from pop-punk, and they pretty much did that on Decomposer, but most of this record bored me to death. At least Decomposer was more interesting. Guess the next record could be good. |
4 | | Saviours Into Abaddon
I think I expected way too much from this record after hearing so much hype about them. Don't get me wrong, this record is good but I was expecting something that would blow me away judging from some of my friend's opinions on this. Maybe it would be better if I ignored the hype I guess. Oh well. |
5 | | Unearth The March
One of my old favorite bands. I don't dislike them but I've moved on from metalcore in general and I was hoping this record would keep Unearth as one of my favorite bands but it didn't. It's just another Unearth record with better guitarwork. |
6 | | Anti-Flag The Bright Lights of America
I loved For Blood & Empire but this album is totally worthless. It's not that "they're sellouts and signed to a major label, etc. etc." it's more of the fact of how they tried to be different and ended up blatantly copying other bands. See "Spit In The Face" and "Reaction" by From Ashes Rise. Also, "Shadow of the Dead's" vocal melody sounds wayyyy too similar to "The Routes We Wander" by The Falcon. There's also a lot of other suspects. |
7 | | All That Remains Overcome
I loved The Fall of Ideals back when it came out and was expecting something great here but got a mediocre, over-produced album with shitty lyrics. Still has some positive things but the overproduction really drags this record down. |
8 | | Iced Earth The Crucible of Man
Not even Matt Barlow can make this album good. This was way too boring, dull and full of symphonic bull shit for my liking. Thankfully, this doesn't ruin Iced Earth's good albums for me as they are still one of my favorite bands. |
9 | | Norma Jean The Anti Mother
Awful, just awful. I was starting to get into their other material and then stumbled across this and was let down. |
