@Asleep - I'm really looking forward to that one in particular. I've always liked what I heard from them but I've really only spent time with their most recent record. |
AsleepInTheBack

Brabiz
04.10.24 | 1 is my second favorite album of all time 😼 |
mkmusic1995
04.13.24 | Pretty much caught up at this point. As a note for the Anthony Braxton suggestion, didn't realize this was like 13 albums in one so I'm just gonna listen to the first track on bandcamp which is like an hour and judge from there for the time being since I can't dedicate that sort of time to a single release. |
DType
04.13.24 | Loving your steady progression |
frozencarl
04.13.24 | Yoooo glad you dug the he is legend album!! They’re currently touring it playing it in full so make sure to catch it if you can ;) |

Demon of the Fall
04.18.24 | your love of that Rorcal album is confusing the hell out of me after 'too much atmos' in Salvation, I mean that one is a hell of a slow build (but very good!)
guessing Salvation just wasn't crushingly heavy enough then, you'd probably have enjoyed The Beyond more on reflection |
mkmusic1995
04.18.24 | For Cult of Luna, I had previously heard the Raging River EP and Dawn of Fear, both of which I thought were pretty decent. I think there's just something a bit exhausting about the progression of that album at least in my personal preference. It did take a bit for the Rorcal album to reel me in but those two middle tracks really sold me with how explosive they could be and how naturally they ebbed and flowed from there on out.
I think I'll check more Cult of Luna regardless because they are such a beloved band and I want to be part of that club lol |
mryrtmrnfoxxxy
04.18.24 | good job enjoying smash |

04.19.24 | "I think I'll check more Cult of Luna regardless because they are such a beloved band and I want to be part of that club lol"
good to hear it
yeah, even though I enjoyed it immediately Salvation took a while to become my fave. I think Dawn (for instance), is easier to digest. Long Road North (their latest) is arguably the most accessible |
ThyCrossAwaits
04.19.24 | Yaaaayyyy I’m so glad you liked Bath
Honestly just one of the greatest records |
mkmusic1995
04.19.24 | @Demon of the Fall, I'll probably end up working backwards and starting with Long Road North and just do a discog run that way especially with those newer ones being the most accessible and working my way towards the more heady and challenging records.
@ThyCrossAwaits Such a great record! It was right up my alley with how diverse and proggy it was while still flowing really nicely. |
Avagantamos
04.19.24 | listen to leaving your body map ASAP it's basically pt2 of bath |
JohnnyoftheWell
04.19.24 | listen to the *full motw and kayo dot discogs
but yeah start with LYBM for bath's moodier counterpart |
mkmusic1995
04.21.24 | Kayo Dot is also a group that I've been meaning to explore so that's definitely on the list. |
Hawks
04.21.24 | Maudlin and Kayo Dot discogs are so damn good. Nothing but bangers. Toby's solo stuff ripz too. |
Zakusz
04.25.24 | Thanks for giving The Perfect Element a chance! |
zakalwe
04.25.24 | Good lad.
20 is nowhere near me favourite I just thought you’d appreciate a bit of a mix up, it is also a quality album and you’re bang on with your observations. |
Hawks
04.25.24 | Glad u dug Warning bro but saying u will never return makes me big sad. :[ |
anode
04.25.24 | glad you liked it mk |
mkmusic1995
04.25.24 | @Hawks - I think it's a great album for when I'm in a doomy mood so I might revisit eventually but it's not the kind of music that I generally have in regular rotation.
@Zakusz - I will certainly check out more from them and while Perfect Element isn't bad by any stretch, maybe I was just expecting something else so I'll revisit eventually as well.
Thank you both!, @zakalwe and @anode |
Zakusz
04.26.24 | Give Remedy Lane from them a try, it's quite a bit less bleak and has more twinkle and roots of that makes sense |

Uh oh
My rec is in danger |
mkmusic1995
04.26.24 | Yeah, the Neutral Milk Hotel rec is one that I'm a bit nervous about lol but I'm going in with an open mind! |

04.26.24 | really been enjoying reading the updates to this list and glad you dug turn on the bright lights. nothing quite like that album for me. |

04.26.24 | a friend bought me Aeroplane even though I'd never heard it. I wasn't expecting to like it but I did. there's a time and a place for it. |
mkmusic1995
04.26.24 | Thanks @Futures, I wasn't sure what to expect but I really enjoyed it!
@Egarran, I love the positivity as well
@Sevengill, I'll probably end up listening to it with some good headphones, seems like the kind of album that really needs it. |
Sevengill
04.26.24 | it's a very personal album so headphones and quiet seems like the right environment |
AsleepInTheBack
04.26.24 | It’s on the lo-fi end of the spectrum. Defo have some personal time with it, but don’t feel the need to wheel out the high end cans. Laptop/carspeakers work just fine for it tbh. |
AsleepInTheBack
04.27.24 | Ayy glad you liked against the odds. Probs was a 4 for me on first spin too. Learn the words scream along be happy. |
mkmusic1995
04.28.24 | Only two more days to go with this and that kinda makes me sad... |
mkmusic1995
04.28.24 | I'm thinking about doing a part two of this for June so be prepared for REC me your favorite albums again! :D |
anode
04.28.24 | haha ima give you my second favorite |
Emim
04.28.24 | I would have rec'd Underoath but I see you have Define the Great Line rated the same as Erase Me and lower than Voyeurist, which is an uh, interesting take. |
ThyCrossAwaits
04.29.24 | That’s pretty darn near objectively incorrect |
mkmusic1995
04.29.24 | To be fair, it has been quite a while since I've heard Define the Great Line so I'm sure it's due for a reappraisal at this point |
Demon of the Fall
04.29.24 | "I'll listen to other albums by them because I'm a curious fella."
I am one man, but I do happen to significantly prefer Mount Eerie (the album) to The Glow, so I reckon you have the right idea in not dismissing The Microphones entirely
I'm liking this wholesome list, seems as though it was a successful endeavour! |
tectactoe
04.29.24 | Sad I missed this, was going to recommend the Eraserhead OST. |
Relinquished
04.29.24 | lol 2 and 12, yet 12 is the dense one |
mkmusic1995
04.29.24 | @Demon of the Fall, I've heard a lot of good things about the Mount Eerie album as well as some of the albums that were released under the Mount Eerie moniker so I'll probably check some of that out as well at some point.
@tectactoe, be ready with your suggestion for June. Hoping to do a part 2 of this because it was extremely fun for me.
@Relinquished, 2 was dense but it was sort of instantly gratifying whereas 12 feels like it would take multiple listens to sift through its contents. |
Kompys2000
04.29.24 | So many good albums on here, hyped to see how mine stacks up |
mkmusic1995
05.01.24 | And thats a wrap! Thanks everyone for your wonderful suggestions, i had a blast exploring these albums and hearing some feedback along the way as well. I will be doing this again soon so be ready with more recs! Much love |
cylinder
05.01.24 | glad you enjoyed Crippling Lack! i know some might see the longer drone passages as rather demanding, so that's nice to hear you describe it as haunting and hypnotic - i think that's exactly what it's supposed to be. nice to see some appreciation for the lyrics too, he is def an amazing lyricist |
