My Favorite Albums Of 2008
It's the list of records I've litened to the most this year. It mainly consists of hard rock, progressive rock and alternative cds. Some surprising choices of unknown releases along the way. |
1 | | Cog Sharing Space
They've matured immensely since their last record creating a compelling record devoid of obvious choices in songs' structures. This is a cd that takes some time to get into, but its strength lying mostly in superb songwriting is undeniable. |
2 | | Mammal The Majority
A hard rock record of the year and arguably the catchiest. Truly awesome groovy album with some punk, hip-hop and tribal influences. An essential listen! Still, wondering why they didn't include Nagasaki In Flames here. |
3 | | Dozer Beyond Colossal |
4 | | Hermano Into the Exam Room
John Garcia's new band's third release is an overall strong combination of stoner/hard rock energetic songs and bluesy ballads resembling Black Sabath's ones. Garcia proves he's still an amazing rock singer and lyricist. Awesome guitarwork all over. |
5 | | Raconteurs Consolers of the Lonely
It took forever to digest this album for me, but once I did it I realized it's one of the best this year. Really outstanding classic rock songwriting, arrengements and some addictive tunes as well. Jack White is a genius. |
6 | | The Butterfly Effect Final Conversation of Kings
Another Aussie band excelling in perfection. This album is their most elaborate to date. Most of all, I love the production and instrumentation on this one. It has some emotional, hertfelt bits as well. |
7 | | The Mars Volta The Bedlam in Goliath
This time the new material from these guys somehow resonated with me. Bedlam is an energetic album abounding in daring experiments. One of the most impressive proggy cds of the year for sure. |
8 | | Gnarls Barkley The Odd Couple |
9 | | Unjust To Lose a Name
The vocalist of this band works for Pixar. I'm starting to notice some resemblance between this studio first-rate productions and the music of Unjust. It's just has the similar kind of feelings to it, except Unjust is much darker. Mendoza's vocal is spectacular and the music is a great combination of alt rock and nu-metal. |
10 | | The Meaning Of The Alligator Festival
Yet another amazing band from Australia, the most hard-rocking continent this year. This funky and groovy music is infectious and perfectly emulates the atmosphere of Australia. It also contains some biggest hits of the year (at least for me). |
11 | | Disturbed Indestructible
This is the most obvious choice on the list. Once again, Disturbed recorded a very solid album, not at all surprising, but filled with catchy, hard-rock tunes they are known for. Dan Donagan shows off his considerable skills as a guitarist. |
12 | | Acid Drinkers Verses of Steel |
13 | | Daughters Of Mara I Am Destroyer
This is their first cd. They play melodic trash metal. This cd tops the last Metallica album (and it isn't mediocre). Obviously, they don't have such technical skills as Metallica, but they more than make up for it by their enthusiasm and, well, more stellar songwriting. Some kicking-ass tunes all around. Shawn Zuzek is a great vocalist as well. |
14 | | Earshot The Silver Lining |
15 | | Cancer Bats Hail Destroyer |
16 | | Danko Jones Never Too Loud |
17 | | King's X XV |
18 | | Birds of Tokyo Universes |
19 | | Portal Blood Red Tape |
20 | | Braintoy Vehicles |
