Zac124

Wow this was a really fun record! Mathcore out of Germany that is performed by a group of really talented musicians. You can tell these guys are tapped in w a lot of core and beyond. The lyrics being in German also help give this a lot of character. Really nice production job too that doesn't affect the sonics. I did find this album to be a bit too long however and could have been cut by about 20 min or so. The sound wears a bit thin after a while. That being said, this is still worth a listen for anyone looking for some fun/new modern mathcore. Very solid. 3.7/5
4Rhythm and Sound
Trace / Imprint

Havey

This rec really tested my patience in the best way possible. Two long excursions into ambient/dub techno with the second track going over 20 minutes. I woke up and threw this on with my morning coffee and it started my day off beautifully. Calming, soothing while balancing dark and gloomy. I knew Havey would come correct after his rec of Pal Joey in my house thread. I may like to dance but I also like to chill 4.1/5
5Marmozets
The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets

JoyfulPlatypus

This was another record that tested my patience but unfortunately not in a good way. Marmozets play a combination of pop punk with mathy post hardcore which yielded mixed results for me. Songs like "Is It Horrible?" and "Vibetech" were cool but the vocals/lyrics overall brought this down for me. A little bit too much melodrama than I would like. I am typically pretty picky on these genres overall though so it's definitely my personal tastes. This was another album I think could have benefitted from being shorter as 46 min is a bit much for this genre. While I can appreciate what they were going for, this is not quite for me. 2.5/5
6Women
Public Strain

Hawks

I am always hyped when Hawks gives me a rec as we seem to be eye to eye on a lot of different music. Unfortunately, this record did not really do much for me. Women play a combination of post punk, noise rock and indie which definitely sounds exciting on paper. In practice however, I did not really find much here that stuck with me. The band is clearly talented and I really enjoyed Drag Open and Locust Valley but this was just kind of there and did not evoke much out of me. May give it another try down the line as these genres are not my wheelhouse. 2.9/5
7Jimmy Eat World
Clarity

Futures

Damn Futures came with the heat! I only know Jimmy Eat World from their hit singles back in the day so I did not know what to really expect. I am very picky when it comes to my emo/pop punk and was definitely skeptical but this ended up rocking! This was a pleasant surprise with really good songwriting and musicianship throughout to keep me engaged. Definitely need to spend some time with this band to learn the details of all the songs. Even the 16 min track went hard! Very cool. 4/5
8Anthony Shakir
Frictionalism 1994-2009

Ryus

Ryus came proper as expected with a banger rave rec. This an absolute monolith of an album that I am proud to say I absolutely love. This Shakir compilation goes through various genres of house, techno and electro over it's 3+ hour span. So much fuckin groove and variety it's hard to not be impressed here. Don't think there was a single track out of 35 I disliked. This is essential for any veteran of Detroit electronic music or if you are new to dance music in general. Easy 4.8/5 but will probably 5 as I become more familiar with the tracks
9Polygon Woods
Post Space

budgie

This was a nice short listen of some really cool psych rock. Made me want to be home in Florida with a cold one in hand out in the sun. I do wish that some of the songs were expanded upon a bit but the final track was easily the best. Super chill and fun. Going to revisit soon to see if I feel any differently. Great rec! 3.9/5
10Shiner
Lula Divinia

Mort.

This band reminded me of a more post hc influenced version of Dino Jr. It's low key but the riffs hit hard af. Like that the vocalist isn't indulging you in the common melodrama of the genre. I really want to spend more time with this record as there's a lot of cool guitar work going on. 4.1/5
11Limp Bizkit
Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water

FrozenFirebug - REVISIT

I really can't believe I listened to this entire thing lmao. I think this album was very front loaded and then the shtick war off pretty quick for me after Rollin'. The series of 5+ min songs towards the end were all really difficult to get through. I did love Fred Durst doing the DMX flow on the Rollin Remix however. Hot Dog is still their best track. Previous score of 2/5 remains.
12Architects
All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us

mkmusic1995

Everything I hated about 2010s metalcore epitomized into one album. Stale production, stadium rock vocals, cheesy lyrics, weak mosh parts. This was the type of shit that made me stop listening during that time and venture into other genres. Sorry to go so hard on this but it was really hard to get through and I was soooo happy it ended. 1.5/5
13Ulcerate
Everything Is Fire

evilford

Riffs ahrd. My first record for the band. I know these guys are Sput darlings so I knew it would either be awesome or some bullshit. I was pleasantly surprised to find this was sick! Really hard DM mixed in with some post metal for melody and contrast. The production and tightness of the band really impressed me and there were truly no dull moments to be found. Huge W for this rec 4.5/5
14Bathory
Nordland II

ToSmokMuzyki

This was my first foray into Bathory and the subgenre of viking metal. This shit was cheesy as hell and not in the way I like with my metal. The vocals are so bad and the song structures were rather boring for me. Not even the couple of cool riffs could save this from being overly tedious. If this is what to expect from other viking metal I will stay far away. Won't give up on other Bathory tho but this sucks! 2.1/5

Hyperion1001

All IDM and techno nerds definitely should peep this. This album strikes a wonderful middle ground between techno, electro and ambient. I really enjoyed the Drexciyan approach of making shorter tracks that all flowed well into one another. Really a great front to back record with the sequencing and variety to be found here. Definitely another great rec I see myself revisiting a lot in the future. 4.1/5
16Beloved
Failure On

bellovddd

This record was a pleasant surprise! I had always known of Beloved from being an Advent fan but never dug into their material. I was pleasantly surprised to find a great post hc record in the vein of mid-career Underoath and old As Cities Burn. I would argue this is even better than those records if I'm being honest. The melodic parts are so well written and thought out while the heavier parts actually have bite and provide a great contrast. Really excited to get some more spins of this in. This was love at first sight and I'll definitely be jamming this a lot over the summer. 4.4/5
17Down I Go
Gods

MeatSalad

Another great post hardcore suggestion that leans into the mathier/experimental side of the genre. I could say this is a more post hc version of ETID but this wouldn't do the EP justice. This never loses steam and keeps you invested with it's unique riffing style and great songwriting. Wouldn't sound out of place in the mid 2000s at all. This is what I would want from a band like Seeyouspacecowboy (who I intend revisit). Probably will also cop this on bandcamp. Another great rec 4/5
18Unwound
Leaves Turn Inside You

FowlKrietzsche

Love at first sight again with this one. Y'all really rec'd some goated post hc in here. I was a little turned off by the length but I really couldn't get enough of these riffs and gloomy atmosphere. I even replayed this later in the night after the first listen. Hard to write thoughts on this properly without gushing grannies. Just such a great record and I am upset I didn't know this band sooner. First 5/5 for me!!!!!!
19Steve Roach
Structures from Silence

SomeCallMeTim

I'm not familiar with a lot of ambient music and did not really know what to expect going in. I also had started this record but stopped in the middle of track 2 to do something. I'm so glad that I listened to this late at night during a sesh because it really hit hard. Three blissful and delicate long ass ambient tracks that come together nicely. Great late at night music and worth the patience if you're willing to give it. 4.1/5 for me but possibly could go up as I become more familiar with the genre.
20Hum
You'd Prefer an Astronaut

artificialbox

Another banger post hc rec! Hum to me is like if the Smashing Pumpkins focused on their riffs and suddenly became hard. Fantastic tracks all across this thing and they really know how to balance the heavy and the hooky. Can really hear their influence on Deftones. I told my friend Be Quiet and Drive is a Hum song w Chino on vocals lol. Incredibly catchy and another one I'll be revisiting soon. 4.2/5
21Bob Dylan
Highway 61 Revisited

Parallels

Never had listened to Dylan's music before and was quite surprised with how much I enjoyed this. This has to be the definition of timeless music to me. Well written tracks, awesome musicianship and just a general consistent vibe throughout that it's hard not to appreciate this. When Bob pulls out the harmonica, you know shits getting real. Tombstone Blues was probably my favorite joint. Beauty in simplicity. 4/5
22David Liebe Hart
Astronaut

cylinder

I was very excited for this rec as I love David on Tim & Eric. His hit "Michael Likes to Smoke His Weed" is also a personal classic of mine. So happy to report this did not disappoint! David continues to write wholesome songs in the vein of his Tim & Eric appearances this time over a variety of electronic beats. Lots of varieties in topics including nature, technology, and love with tons of relatable lyrics that really will get you thinking. He does not compromise the song quality however with this variance. I can't recommend this album enough as he is an outsider music legend. Another easy 5/5
23maudlin of the Well
Bath

ThyCrossAwaits

Holy shit this blew me away! Super far out metal with acoustic, jazz, prog and who knows what else. It seems there's been a lot of praise of this on here too and rightfully so. Just fucking awesome and weird, a description doesn't do it justice. Excited to dig into these weirdos some more. Another massive hit 4.6/5
