Tech Death [2024]
A chunky monkey remix for an album I’m sure I’ve heard before but not rated it goes chugachugachugachuga very quickly and my monkey mind is satisfied. [3.5] |

Jazz Fusion [2024]
Way so way very not way i mean what this wasnt what i was expecting what. The shortest thing he's done? And yet somehow feels too long? Some of the stuff on the second half is fantastico but im already kind of done due to some of the dud cuts on the first half (computer love ew). Makes for a weird listen that I struggle to love but also am kind of enamoured by for its character, robust creative decisions and big old balls. [3.5] |

Gothic / Alt Rock [2024]
Was putting this off (having not heard any of their earlier stuff, except for a cursory spin of Disintegration like 10 years ago, and wanting to retry before trying this) but the grip of the fomo hype got to me and so I cheques and it was a good chek decision this is good heck. Attracts horrid descriptors like tasteful and subtle but nah mate it’s spiritual it’s worship it’s life. [4] |

Noise Rock / Gothic Rock [2024]
Equal parts daft/cartoonish and genuinely striking/stirring/scary. Has some of the best tracks of the year. Has some other tracks which are certainly tracks of the year. Want to unpack lyrics and return. [3.5] |

Indie / Alt Rock [2024]
Jammed due to a friend of a friend insisting on it and it is quite nice! Not listened to anything except the sexy fire song but this has hooks that hook and croons that soothe. [3] still dull as old boots though |

Ambient [2024]
Solid gold lil nugget of ambience. Feel asleep to it on train to work. Useful accompaniment to doing actual work. Just an all round big hug (but not vapid). [3.5] probably underrating |

Drum and Bass [2024]
I have weird connections connotations with drum and bass having tried to first jam it when I had Covid January 2023 it makes me feel feverish and dizzy and it’s a shame as it conjures judgementalism within me that I don’t think this album deserves. Closer recovered this from a bitter [2] taking the gas off a touch and leaning into its atmos elements. Idk I’m dumb and complaining about the bass in drum and bass rip me. [3] |

26 | | Aphex Twin Music From The Merch Desk (2016 - 2023)
29th December 2024
IDM [2024]
The hodge-est of podges. 2.5 hours aka 40 tracks (ish) of Aphex (essentially) b sides. Some absolute gold (both “no stillsons”, MT1T1, em2500, Spiral Staircase, and a bunch of others) and, naturally, a lot of fluff. First listen reeks of more than [3.5] upon familiarity, and thrives in a more than the sum of its parts kind of way (take this track by track and there are limited hits per misses, but take it as a whole and it is a massive vibe). For now, [3.5] and likely to be a 2025 dip in and out of jam. |
