2024 in a Nutshell

Always listening to something, either during work or driving. I work from home - music is like a second form of caffeine for me. 2024 was a mix - bought less new releases than past years, but still listened to much new and old.
1Malrun
Two Thrones

Genre: progressive metalcore

Played this band non-stop in early 2024, along with...
2Intronaut
The Direction of Last Things

Genre: progressive post-metal

This album, as well as Fluid Existential Inversions, was on heavy rotation.
3Slipknot
The End, So Far

Genre: progressive metal

Bleeding from 2023 into 2024, couldn't shake this album. Loved the various the instrumental pallets explored on this album. Was also into...
4Corey Taylor
CMF2B… Or Not 2B

Genre: Hard rock, metal

...anything Corey Taylor. Played this so much, that my boys still go around singing "I'm a tank".
5Gojira
Fortitude

Genre: Progressive technical death metal

And, in 2024, was still on a high from seeing Gojira live in 2023. Ended up taking one of my sons to see Gojira with Korn in 2024 - so this was on heavy rotation.
6The Ocean
Holocene

Genre: Progressive metal

This album in particular, also bled from 2023 into my 2024. There was just something awesome about the myriad of textures, as well as how the album continued to build in intensity over its course. Listened to this alot in the car off bandcamp, as well as...
7Nita Strauss
The Call Of The Void

Genre: Instrumental metal with guest vocals and death metal drumming

...this album was frequently being streamed off bandcamp in my car. Some amazing guest spots, but Allissa White-Gluz' track takes the cake. So was also listening in 2024 to...
8Arch Enemy
Deceivers

Genre: Melodic Death Metal

Listened to this album in 2nd qtr 2024 alot, as well as Will to Power. Was also heavily into...
9Kittie
Fire

Genre: metal

This new album re-established Kittie at the top of their game - and hopefully reminded all of their spot in nu metal history - as one of the first female-fronted bands to use truly harsh vocals.
10Kells
Anachromie

Genre: melodic metal

In mid 2024, was jamming each of the Kells releases, as well as...
11Kobra and the Lotus
Evolution

Genre: post power metal

...an incredible band from CAN. Listened to this album alot, as well as Prevail I and II.
12Dragpipe
Music for the Last Day of Your Life

Genre: nu/rap metal

Somewhere around midyear - perhaps post summer - got really pulled back into rap metal. Bought this for a $1 off chance, and this album remained in play list for months. As a result, purchased some albums far in my queue like...
13Limp Bizkit
Still Sucks

Genre: nu/rap metal

A great mini album, especially for the first half. Rekindled everything I had initially loved and subsequently hated about the LB. Went back and listened to albums not spun since the mid 2000's - and realized their discorgraphy was stronger than I realized.
14I Prevail
TRUE POWER

Genre: Metalcore/New nu-metal

Saw this band live in 2024, with Halestorm. Loved the dueling vocals - and continued to feed my interest in rappish metal. As well as...
15Falling in Reverse
Popular Monster

Genre: Metalcore/New nu-metal/rapcore

Also saw this band live in 2024. Gerat set and stage presence. Listened to this a good bit in 2nd qtr 2024.
16Linkin Park
Meteora (20th Anniversary Edition)

Genre: nu/rap metal

Similar to the LB, I ended up revisiting LP's discography as well. In 4th Qtr 2024, I found that the Meteora demos, both the lost demos and the instrumental demos on this album, were incredible. Also went back and listened to the latter half of their discography and found that I no longer hated some of their recent albums (A Thousand Suns, The Hunting Party).
17Grey Daze
The Phoenix

Genre: post grunge

Also, around 4th qtr, finally picked up the partner album to Amends. Both of these albums showcase a raw side of Chester that still resonates strongly. RIP Chester.
18Linkin Park
From Zero

Genre: nu/rap metal

To say this was not the album that dominated 4th qtr for me would be a lie. From the pre-release singles and concert viewing (on youtube), to the post playing of the album - this was huge. And what a great 31 minute album it is. Love Chester, but this band was essentially dead in the water. Emily really revitalized the band and their sound. Love it.
19Paradise Lost
Obsidian

Genre: gothic metal

This band was a constant throughout 2024 for me, as well as in 2023. Love how this band has explored a multiude of gothic textures over their discography, and have come around full circle to a sound similar to thir historic sound in Shades of God
20Poppy
Negative Spaces

Genre: pop, metal, and the kitchen sink

In 4th Qtr, was catching up on all the earlier Poppy metal tracks I missed, in addition to the brilliant album I Disagree. Finally received my physical copy of her newest album yesterday. If this is the current pinnacle of modern metal, works well with me.
