If It Weren't For Sputnik
I wouldn't have known/listened to these bands/albums. I Just wanted to say thanks to the sputnik community for steering me towards some of the best music I've heard in a long time.
Any further rec's are appreciated. |
1 | | Cynic Traced in Air
Traced in Air took me a few listens to really get into (like the majority of music that I end up really appreciating) but this has definitely become one of my favorite albums. As a bonus I saw them in Toronto with Meshuggah and The Faceless and they were fantastic live. I cannot wait for them to stop opening and start headlining. |
2 | | The Fall of Troy Doppelganger
This is probably the band that I am most thankful to the sputnik community for giving me the chance to find out about. Doppelganger is without a doubt my most listened to album in the last 4 months. I actually became angry when I found out that I could have been listening to this 3 years ago. |
3 | | The Flashbulb Soundtrack to a Vacant Life
I haven't got around to listening to anything other than soundtrack to a vacant life but Im hooked on that album and think that I will be for a long time to come. This is perfect to have on in the background when you are studying or doing things around the house. |
4 | | Between the Buried and Me Colors
I knew about this band before sputnik but never really gave them much of a chance until I read all the glowing reviews for colors. This band demands your full attention and leaves me with a feeling of exhaustion (in a good way) after a few songs. Colors is a great album and has some brilliant moments in it. Most people talk about the guitar work but I think that the bass player stands out more than anyone in this band. |
5 | | Giraffes? Giraffes! More Skin With Milk-Mouth
The intro/verse in When the catholic girls go camping, the nicotine vampires rule supreme is probably my favorite tapping guitar part I have ever heard. When I first came across this band I probably listened to that song 10 times in a row, I just couldn?t stop. I would love to see these guys in a really small venue. |
6 | | Brand New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
This is another band that I knew about before but didnt really give too much of a chance. After listening to The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me I have come to admire how much the singer puts himself into his art. I really enjoy listening to this. |
7 | | Grouper Dragging a Dead Deer up a Hill
Really good soft acoustic pieces. I dont listen to this too often but when Im in the right mood nothing is better. |
8 | | The Chronicles Of Israfel Starborn, Tome I
This is a bonus for anyone reading my list. I wanted to try and give back a bit to the sputnik community and this is probably the most unknown band/album that I know of that is really worth checking out. It is a semi-instrumental album that features Dominic Cifarelli (Pulse Ultra, Scars on Broadway) on guitar. The concept of the album is a bit silly but the music is excellent. He has been one of my favorite guitar players for a long time. |
