08.10.09 | let the recs begin! |
Romulus
08.10.09 | 29 isn't really nu-metal. Try The Real Thing or King for a Day if you want stuff by them that's more nu-metal oriented |
PayneTiger777
08.10.09 | Nice, we have almost the same taste in music.
For Progressive Rock I would go with Pure Reason Revolution- The Dark Third (phenomenal album). Check out Karnivool as well. |
kitsch
08.10.09 | if it took sputnik for you to know about AC, radiohead, btbam or muse you must live under a rock.

TheGreatD17
08.10.09 | Haha most of the random sputnik albums are prog, but anyway for that genre I second the Pure Reason Revolution rec, that band deserves more attention. You might like Oceansize too. |

cvlts
08.10.09 | oh god, nu-metal better not become the new 'cool' thing on sputnik. |
Fugue
08.10.09 | Edit: Genesis: The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway not The Lamb Dies, my mistake |
AnotherBrick
08.10.09 | i dont see that happening...i just missed the wave when it was "cool" |
cvlts
08.10.09 | okay, 'respectable' genre |
Metalstyles
08.10.09 | so yaah for nu metal which by the way is an ok genre:
Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E
Nonpoint - Statement
Dope - Life
Ill Nino - Revolution/Revolucion
Twin Method - The Volume Of Self
Sixstitch - The Collapse Of American Dreams (it's alt.metal but you might enjoy it)
Drowning Pool - Sinner
Nothingface - Violence |
greg84
08.10.09 | Haha. Surprise. I choose nu-metal out of these genres. Try:
Mudvayne - L.D.50 and their second cd
Rootwater - Visionism
Drowning Pool - Sinner
Staind - Dysfunction
Memento - Beginnings
Taproot - Welcome
American Head Charge - The War of Art
Motograter - Motograter
Mushroomhead - XIII
Maja (very Korn-ish)
Dog Fashion Disco - Adultery (they aren't quite nu-metal, but you should check them out for sure))
|
AnotherBrick
08.10.09 | man havent heard of half of these! |
shindip
08.10.09 | 40 ftw |
Metalstyles
08.10.09 | well I guess it is time for you to get to know them eh :). Also Mushroomhead and American Head Charge suck, avoid those. |
greg84
08.11.09 | Nah. They don't. American Head Charge not even remotely: can't think of any bad track by them. |
Metalstyles
08.11.09 | ok, maybe American Head Charge really is a personal preference, but c'mon man, Mushroomhead??? They are just a stupid Slipknot-like (I would maybe even go as far and say that slipknot-ripoff) band with no persona at all, and the only good thing about that band is the Dj Rick "St1tch" Thomas |
greg84
08.11.09 | Mushroomhead are more of a Faith No More rip-off than anything else. I don't consider them revolutionary or something, but their first two cds are rock solid crossover releases which explored much larger teritory of influence than Slipknot's. |
Metalstyles
08.11.09 | that doesn't mean that they didn't suck ;). So yaah mister AnotherBrick I recommend you to stay away from Mushroomhead, greg here thinks differently, but still, those guys suck pretty bad. If you are into industrial then check out Rick St1tch thomas' other band Ventana instead. They make some neat industrial music. |
greg84
08.11.09 | I did a little research and... Surprise. Mushroomhead's first two albums have higher ratings than Slipknot's corresponding releases on this site. |
BallsToTheWall
08.11.09 | E[ic failure from anybody not mentioning The Gathering for fans of Dredg, Fair To Midland, and such. |
Metalstyles
08.11.09 | yea but my point is they still suck hahahaha. OH and btw I don't even really like any Slipknot albums that much, only some of their songs(and even those are few-and-far between) |
willfellmarsy
08.11.09 | Braintoy-Vehicles (prog like Porcupine Tree/Tool)

Coheed and Cambria-In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 (you should like it)
lights out asia-eyes like brontide (best post rock i've heard)
Animal Collective-Strawberry Jam (better than MPP)
Protest the Hero-Kezia (like btbam but more accessible)
Devin Townsend-Terria (better than Ki)
The Devin Townsend Band-Synchestra
Cardiacs-A Little Man & a House & the Whole World Window (prog punk) |

08.11.09 | Shit, what to rec...
Well, there's always the whole 'Everglow'/'Mute Math'/'Dial M' stint I could go, but maybe not this time (but really, you should check all of those out; Mae, Mute Math and Starflyer 59, respectively).

08.11.09 | Is Bon Iver THAT good. . . .people seem to rec him almost as much as they do Raidohead. . . . |
Aids
08.11.09 | I don't know if anybody's done this one yet but for post rock, definetly get "What We Must" by Jaga Jazzist. It's my favourite post-rock album over List You Skinny Fists. Also, Mogwai (specifically Young Team and Happy Songs for Happy People) and Do Make Say Think (You, You're History in a Rust) are good.
I saw that for Indie, someone reccomended In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. If you actually haven't heard that yet, do it. It's THE definitive Indie record. I'm listening to it on vinyl (new today whatup) right now and it's blowing my mind. It took like twenty listens to fully click for me though, so get going on that.
Another Indie rec: The Crane Wife by The Decemberists is a fantastic album. It's kinda proggy too so there you go.
Plus get Kid A by Radiohead. I don't know if you've heard it or not but it's incredible.
Go go go |
